Precautions

TemperatureBe sure the temperature inside the vehicle is between +60°C (+140°F) and –10°C(+14°F) before turning your unit on.

Moisture CondensationYou may notice the CD playback sound wavering due to condensation. If this happens, remove the disc from the player and wait about an hour for the moisture to evaporate.

Damaged DiscDo not attempt to play cracked, warped, or damaged discs. Playing a bad disc couldseverely damage the playback mechanism.

MaintenanceIf you have problems, do not attempt to repair the unit yourself. Return it to your Alpinedealer or the nearest Alpine Service Station for servicing.

Never Attempt the FollowingDo not grip or pull out the disc while it is being pulled back into the player by theautomatic reloading mechanism.Do not attempt to insert a disc into the unit when the unit power is off.

Inserting DiscsYour player accepts only one disc at a time for playback. Do not attempt to load morethan one disc.Make sure the label side is facing up when you insert the disc. Your player will auto-matically eject any disc that is inserted incorrectly.Playing a disc while driving on a very bumpy road may result in skips, but this will notscratch the disc or damage the player.

Irregular Shaped DiscsMake sure the discs you use in this unit do not have any irregularities. The outer andinner edges should be round and smooth. Use of irregularly shaped discs may causedamage to the mechanism.

New DiscsAs a protective measure to prevent the CD from jamming, the CD player will automati-cally eject discs with irregular surfaces or inserted incorrectly. When a new disc isinserted into the player and ejected after initial loading, using your finger, feel aroundthe inside of the centre hole and outside edge of the disc. If you feel any small bumpsor irregularities, this could inhibit proper loading of the disc. To remove the bumps, rubthe inside edge of the hole and outside edge of the disc with a ball-point pen or othersuch instrument, then insert the disc again.

Installation LocationMake sure the DVA-5205P will not be installed in a location subjected to:

About DVDs

Music CDs and DVDs have grooves (tracks) inwhich the digital data is recorded. The data isrepresented as microscopic pits recorded intothe track – these pits are read by a laser beamto play the disc. On DVDs, the density of thetracks and pits is twice that of CDs, so DVDscan contain more data in less space.

A 12 cm disc can contain one movie or aboutfour hours of music. In addition, DVDs provide sharp picture qualitywith vivid colors thanks to a horizontal resolu-tion of over 500 lines (compared to less than300 for VHS tape). With the addition of anoptional, digital audio processor (PXA-H510),you can recreate the power and presence of amovie theater with Dolby Digital 5.1-channelSurround.

Terminology

Dolby DigitalDolby Digital is a digital audio compres-sion technology developed by DolbyLaboratories. It is compatible with notonly stereo (2-channel) sound, but also5.1-channel surround sound. The signalsfor the different channels are completelyindependent, so large quantities of audiodata can be recorded efficiently on discs, and since the sound is digital there is littleloss of sound quality.

* The separately sold digital audioprocessor (PXA-H510) is required toenjoy Dolby Digital sound.

DTSThis is a home-use digital sound format ofthe DTS Sound System. This is a highquality sound system, developed byDigital Theater Systems Corp for use inmovie theaters.DTS has six independent sound tracks. The theater presentation is fully realizedin the home and other settings. DTS isthe abbreviation for Digital TheaterSystem.* To enjoy DTS surround sound you need

the separately sold DTS digital audioprocessor. The DVD video softwaremust also have a DTS sound track.

Dolby Pro LogicDolby Pro Logic is a Dolby Surroundformat encoded onto two channels.Proper decoding reproduces four chan-nels (front left/right, center and rearsurround (monaural)) upon playback.* The separately sold digital audio

processor (PXA-H510) is required toenjoy Dolby Pro Logic sound.

Linear PCM audio (LPCM)LPCM is a signal recording format usedfor music CDs. Whereas music CDs arerecorded at 44.1 kHz/16 bits, DVDs arerecorded at 48 kHz/16 bits to 95 kHz/24bits, thereby achieving higher soundquality than music CDs.
