Concept

• To display a reflection of people’s collaborative curiosity towards an artifact within a public space. This is achieved by presenting the audience within the space with a collective representation of their presence and inquisitiveness of its content.

Page 3: Dynamic Instant Capture System

Context

• The installation is a direct reflection of the current personal presence within the space comprised of previous reflections. Meaning is brought to the artifact as a curious focal point within the space through displaying historic photos from a repository. These historic photos are dynamic image captures (D.I.C) from the artifacts point of view of people who are curious enough to approach.

Concept cont.

• The capture is unwillingly displayed to curious suspects on a large screen display as a “photo mosaic” composed from the store of images in the historic photo repository. The audience engage with the artifact at first with a curious attitude until they become more aware of its purpose within the space. Once this realisation has been acknowledged the user is free to explore the limitations of its purpose.

Mechanics

• There are 3 basic requirements to create a photo mosaics:

• A source image – This will be our D.I.C taken of curious people

• A large image store (repository) with a sufficient amount of images with a diverse range of colours – This will constantly be built up, by storing every D.I.C that is

taken into the repository.

• The amount of tiles wide and high, along the final resolution of the mosaic – These variables will be tailored to fit the perspective of the

projection space. For our proposed prototype site, the dimensions will be that of the Block.

Mechanics cont.• The Dynamic Instant Captures will be

acquired by processing the video feed been feed in from the camera. A base frame will be noted when the system is first started and from here monitored and adjusted based off the changing light and sky features. With a base state known the software will be able to pick-up new movements, and create a image when movement is below a threshold or a maximum coverage is reached. Once a D.I.C. is created it will be added to the image store and a mosaic of it created and displayed on the screen (the Block).
