BUT INVESTIGATING officer, Warrant Officer R.P. Seanego, while on sick leave commented thus; “The case is still on the roll and the docket has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions in Mahikeng for a decision on the matter. The suspect is still on bail.”

Mr. Eric Lekgothoane, prosecutor at the Moretele Magistrate Court, telephonically confirmed Seanego’s comment.

Provincial Spokesperson for the North West Police, Brigadier Thulani Ngubane, said he was not in a position to comment because; “Temba Police Station is under Gauteng Province.”

Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID) Spokesperson Mr. Moses Dlamini said his office no longer does service delivery complaints.

Lieutenant Sarah Lesabane, Spokesperson for the Temba Police said the case has been referred to the Director of Prosecutions because the post mortem indicate the deceased died of natural causes, adding that; “The family should be

patient as murder cases can drag on for a period up to five years.”

On the contrary Gama said; “I have lost all hope that the suspect will ever be arrested. I have told my children that I have given up; everything about this matter, telling myself that it is God who will revenge me or pay back. The investigating officer has told me that, we should relax and wait for him to approach us or give us feedback,” said Gama.

“It is up to a year now; we have not heard anything from him yet. He has just disappeared into thin air. I have just finished my period of mourning last weekend, carrying the pain all the way. These days people with power bribe their way out of trouble. We the poor and downtrodden benefit nothing out of this democracy,” added Gama.

Gama said she was saddened by the rumour circulating in the village that the suspect had gone to some of the places where Sosh Times is distributed and collected all the copies available for destruction, in order to hide some of the information to the society.

Makopjane was not available

for comment.Gama further said when the

investigating officer visited her home last time, he requested the family to investigate or trace the person whom it is said was there when the deceased was assaulted and photographed the incident.

“I told him, I cannot do that. It was for him as a policeman to trace and investigate,” said Gama.

Mr. Sammy Gama, the deceased son said; “A post mortem was conducted at the government mortuary in Ga-Rankuwa. The investigating officer promised to provide the family with the results thereof as soon as it was available. Up to now we are still waiting.”

Sammy Gama had previously told Sosh Times that he was called on the day of the alleged assault by residents that his father was being assaulted by the suspect at his parents’ home. He hired a car quickly to rush there to find out what was happening.

“ W h e n we reached the place, we found my father behind

a van, with the suspect claiming that he has caught a witch and he is taking him to the bush to kill him. I and the driver of the hired car, decided to follow him up, instead he decided to change course and went to the Temba Police station,” said Sammy Gama.

“When we reached the police station, Mokopjane told the police that he has caught a witch in his yard. The police looked scared of Mokopjane. They did nothing about the situation. Mokopyane even ridiculed them by saying there is nothing they can do to him” added Sammy Gama.

“He told the police that their ranks are too low and their pay packets are equal to the money he uses to buy airtime. My father was almost naked and he had a T-shirt only covering his top. I felt ashamed of my father,

“I took my father out of Mokopjane’s van and covered

him with a blanket. I took him to our car. The police just looked at us and said nothing. We drove him home. He never slept that night, he was in deep pains. In the morning, we rushed him to the hospital,” said Sammy Gama.

“My father never had such deep pains before. They came about as a result of the assault inflicted on him by the suspect. The only problem was that my father was suffering from a loss of memory. He would go out of the yard, to wherever he likes, at any time of the day, to go without co-ordinating with anybody, “added Sammy Gama.

“Mokopjane knows my father’s condition very well and that he is mentally challenged. Up to now I cannot understand why he chose to treat my father like this. My father knew Makopjane since he was a boy. He grew up seeing my father almost every day,” said Sammy Gama.

THE LEADERSHIP of the African National Congress in Hammanskraal finds itself stuck between a rock and a hard place as bickering over funds for the multimillion rand Magalies Water Project in Temba was brought to an abrupt halt.

Ward 73 Councillor Jappie Aphane slammed certain members of the tripartite alliance and accused them of resorting to under hand tactics in their bid to put contractors under pressure. He said some members of the tripartite were demanding 25% commission from the contractors.

“The truth behind the matter is that the workers were forced to abandon their work and embark on a protest action because the contractors refused to bribe members of the alliance. As the one who is overseeing the implementation of the programmes, I cannot allow people to do as they please. I will have to account somewhere if the project fails. How am I going to explain how the money ended up going into the pockets of individuals not related to the project,” said Aphane.

Aphane’s assertions were however denied by a member of the South African National Civic Organisation,

Mr. William Shirinda, who said he and the branch secretary of the ANC, Mr. Sam Rabohlale, were merely trying to force the contractors to pay the workers in accordance to the Department of Labour’s Central Determination Act.

“We as SANCO we are standing in solidarity with the workers who continue to be marginalised and abused by the contractors. The contractors are deliberately ignoring some of the terms of the project like transferring skills to the local people. But instead they shipped in workers from outside while the majority of the locals are unemployed. While few of the locals who are employed in the projects are paid mediocre salaries,” said Shirinda.

Parties close to the project who spoke to Sosh Times on condition of anonymity said this was not an isolated incident as the group known as “Boko Haram” has in the past stopped projects at Kanana and other areas. They are accused of beating everyone who does not tow their line.

He said it was impossible that a labourer at the project without adequate skills would demand a pay hike of R 400 per day compared to the current R 184 per day.

Project hits a snag over alliance’s squabbles

A SOSHANGUVE police officer, Warrant Officer Ezekiel Kalakgosi, Advocate Confidence Rekhotso and, his client Ms. Sarah Mothapo were released on R2000 bail each by the Soshanguve Magistrate Court for defeating the ends of justice in a case which has seen a plethora of dramatic twists and turns.

The trio appeared before Magistrate Hanlie Luus on charges relating to a hit and run accident which claimed the life of a five year old Olerato Chiloane-Makena. The incident took place in May 2013 while Chiloane-Makena was attending a family reunion.

They appeared alongside a local sangoma, Ms. Wilhemina Rapule who is believed to have been with Mothapo at the time of the accident.

The four were arrested on Mandela Day after an investigation led by members of the Hawks and senior police investigators found that Mothapo allegedly paid Mantshole Moekwa to take responsibility for the accident. Moekwa has since turned a state witness.

The state prosecutor, Ms. Alicia Kruger, said the state would not oppose the accused bail application, as they had no previous criminal records and were not considered flight risks. She hinted that additional charges could be brought in at a later stage.

As part of their bail conditions Luus indicated that the suspects would not leave Gauteng province without prior letter of authorisation from the investigation office. The case was postponed to the 23rd September 2014 for more investigations.

Mapula Chiloane

It is only a severely demented person with a small water soaked filament brain, if he has any, who can assault a naked

man old enough to be his father while the helpless victim lies on the floor pleading for mercy. A video clip that has gone viral in Stinkwater near Hammanskraal shows a man identified as Mr Madoda Makopjane, chairperson of the African National Congress branch for ward 95 in the area assaulting an 83 years old Mr Piet Gama. The elderly man was admitted to hospital and subsequently died over a year ago. The family is still in darkness as to the cause of Gama’s death as they were not given a post-mortem. A criminal case was opened at the Temba SAPS and to date Makopjane had not had a day in court. The deceased’s wife, Ms Christina Gama rightly says that she has lost hope that the perpetrator who has caused her husband’s death will ever be arrested. The deceased’s son, Mr Sammy Gama said that Makopjane had informed people he had caught a witch and that he was taking him to a bush to kill him but instead he took the injured elderly man to Temba Police Station where he ridiculed some lame police officers and spewed his verbal diarrhoea at them. He also dared the police to arrest him. “He told the police that their ranks are too low and their pay packets are equal to the money he uses to buy airtime”, said Gama. People like Makopjane surely do not have a place in democratic South Africa he belongs to the Vlakplaas era where blood thirsty lunatics like him killed and burnt our people without the slightest conscience. People who are lobbying, as rumour has it, for Makopjane to become a councillor really need to have their heads examined because we have no doubt that the ANC does not need people like him in its ranks. The organisation has fought hard for the rights and dignity of the citizens of this country only to have its gains reversed by a demented person.

BICKERING TRIPARTITE

WE FIND it very hard to understand the stand taken by the ANC tripartite alliance in their bickering resulting into the halting of the Magalies Water Project in Temba Hammasnkraal. Their demands for a 25% commission from the contractors who are building a water reservoir in the area is a laughable circus and they should be dismissed with contempt they by the wider community because this warped group is depriving them of an essential service solely on selfish reasons. These non-workers who masquerade as the champions of the people’s rights are a bunch of failures who are keen in riding on the back of honest and hard working people. We tend to agree fully with Councillor Jappie Aphane that the truth of the matter behind the disruption of the project is that these mavericks could not get the bribes they solicited from the contractors. People cannot go about halting essential projects in our townships as they wished as it is the case demonstrated by some faceless people who call themselves “Boko Haram”. This is the name of some mad Nigerian men who have unleashed despicable acts of terrorism in their country and this South African group must be warned that this country is not a banana republic and therefore any actions that border on terrorism will not be tolerated here. This group of scattered brains should concentrate on improving the lives of township dwellers and come up with projects aimed at the development of our residential areas instead of sitting on their lazy backsides and soliciting bribes from other people. As for SANCO especially at branch level this organisation is nothing but a debilitating structure that has critically failed to adequately address the community’s civil matters and we find it absurd that all of a sudden they have become experts in a more complex sphere of labour matters.

COMMENTBy Mamikie Masoga

Use it or lose it…

It is surprising that languages change over time; have you noticed? Whether we like it or not, languages change and they vary. But after all they are down through generations for means of communications. Some words are omitted or added or pronounced differently, I guess that’s part of language development.

Language is always changing. Generation by generation, pronunciation advances, new words are borrowed or invented, the meaning of old words drifts and morphology (the patterns of words formation in a particular language, including variation, origin, and structure) develops or become extinct. Borrowing of words depends in

the cultural relationship holding between languages. The rate of change varies, but whether the changes are faster or slower, they build up until the “mother tongue- native language” becomes randomly distant and different.

Why do languages change?

Languages change for variety of reasons, be it migration, social, economic and political pressures. Many of them change because of colonisation and migration. Even without these kinds of influences, a language can change drastically if enough users alter the way they speak. The need of speakers drives language change. Technology, products and demands of creativityin the media industry all require new words. For examples

“cell phones, words likeselfies (a self-portrait photograph), and social network languages” did not exit during Shakespeare’s time. By using new and emerging terms, we all contribute to language change.

The unique way that individuals use a language also adds up to language change, that’s because no two individuals can use a language exactly the same way. Vocabulary and phrases people use depends on where they live, their age, social status and educational levels.

Through our communications and interactions, we pick up new words and sayings and integrate them into our daily speeches. Teenagers and young adults often use different words and phrases. Some of these words spread through the population

and slowly change in the language. Because of the trendy lifestyle, languages seem to also be moving forward.

Three main aspects of language change which over time are vocabulary, sentence structure and pronunciations.Vocabulary can change quickly as new words are borrowed from other languages, or as words get combined or shortened.

Before a language can change, speakers must adopt new words, sentence structures and sounds, spread them through the community and transmit them to the next generation. Seeing the ancient ways of writing and language use, the new generation would not understand. Language change is good and plays a major role in our modern society.

REACTIONARIES ARE not best known for formulating strategies to find a solution to any challenges but this lot is rather famous for its critical ineptness. And we are that kind of society. We are tightly wrapped around an appalling iron blanket of mounting and horrific human abuses especially of women and children.

What do we do? We simply react with seemingly faked emotions of utter despondency. Each time a woman or a child gets killed, and this happens with disgusting frequency, our Honourable Cabinet Ministers jostle and vie for various categories for an Oscar nomination on the SABC’s news bulletins. A clown for “Shedding the Best Crocodile Tears”, the “Best Big Mouthed Comedian” and the “Best Hypocrite”. The

Communities on the other hand, need to form structures in their areas that will involve men, women and the youth where issues of violence against women and children must be unambiguously discussed and solutions formulated (for goodness sake, I am not in any way suggesting the formation of vigilante groups) to curb this scourge. After all, we live in these areas where abuses take place, opulent residential areas that are riddled with all sorts of drugs, informal settlements and rural communities where alcohol flows like the Nile River. No doubt these substances are the major contributors to unsocial behaviour, rape, murder and all forms of violence.

The newspaper I am working for had approached several authorities including the then Ministry of Women, Children and People with Disabilities with the view of holding a series of dialogues in the communities mentioned above and we were given lame excuses why the government would not partner with us. This clearly shows that we cannot take our government seriously when it comes to matters that adversely affect our people. We would have never have entertained any ideas of holding these dialogues at convention centres that are out of reach of our people and thus it is not surprising at all, that our proposal was declined.

For as long as our authorities remain the clowns they are, the abuse of women and children will continue unabated, therefore bagaetsho bulang matlho, we are not vote milk cows, let us start doing things for ourselves and stop relying on these hypocrites.

The 16 Days of Activism is a big farce

African National Congress Women’s League also falls under this category of clowns. The league’s members quickly got into their famous green and gold gear and zoomed into the Rasuge’s home in Hammanskraal, the domicile of the late Constable Francis Rasuge and made all sorts of absurd statements on SABC’s cameras. As if their farce was not good enough the organisation built the family a house. Surely building a house for the victim’s family was not, and it will never be a solution to the scourge of women and children the country is facing. The league’s antics are endless and we witness this as they made a spectacle of themselves during the Oscar Pistorious’ murder trial in Pretoria.

Emotionally charged, the guardian of women, children and people with disabilities, Mme Lulu Xingwana, gracefully took a leaf from former apartheid era Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Pik Both, (do you still remember that he was the first one to arrive at the crash scene of the plane that killed Mozambican President Samora Machel?). She came to Soshanguve and lambasted the murderer of baby Masego Kgomo. I fail to believe that she had any solutions to the problems of violence against women and children. Her department was, reportedly, said it intended to build a structure in the area dedicated to Masego more than two years and this undertaking is still to be realised. I have lost count of the number of such visits the minister had undertaken

whenever acts of brutality had been committed against women and children.

However, the clergy in this country also carries a huge blame on the shoulders for its dismal efforts in addressing the abuse of the most vulnerable members of our society. It is indeed understandable that the number of church going people and Christians is worrisomely dwindling but the few who are still committed to their convictions is undoubtedly enough to take the message back to the broader community that enough is enough; the abuse of women and children must stop, right now.

The government’s annual 16 Days Activism Against the abuse of Women and Children is nothing but a big sham which has dismally failed to create the necessary awareness towards stopping the scourge of the violation of this vulnerable group of our society. The government’s event fails to deliver the intended message but serves to promote inept skimpily dressed singers who dish out a cacophony of noise on stage. A number of credible community structures are undoubtedly better positioned to deliver the 16 Days of Activism more effectively than the farce promoted by the government. We have not as a nation won the war against HIV-AIDS but in partnership with community organisation to a larger degree the government has made magnificent strides in its fight against this pandemic. Nothing wrong in using the same strategy.

“Prepare for the unknown by studying how others in the past have coped with the unforeseeable and unpredictable” a befitting quote by United States war veteran General George S Patton hopefully does justice to Filadelfia Secondary School learners in Soshanguve.

This comes after the Siyakha Education Trust a Corporate Investment division of Resilient Property Income Fund and Fortress Property Income Fund recently donated study guides to learners at Soshanguve Crossing as part of the companies’ community development projects. In order to ensure that the learners from the school are

adequately prepared for their 2014 national senior certificate examinations.

The Trust sees itself as an academic investor, passionate about supporting, uplifting, inspiring and empowering the youths.

The Trust has thus far implemented almost 40 academic projects in South Africa, during the months of January to July 2014. These span across all the provinces and range from curriculum support equipment such as computers and science laboratories to refurbishment projects.

Sosh Crossing’s Marketing Manager, Mr George Matlakala said; “Last year, to offer our support to Grade 12 learners,

Ms Charity Zabane Educator at Filadelfia said; “I am very grateful for the study guides as they will assist the learners, as it contains information that will make it easier for them to understand. Also it contains a variety of subjects broken down,”

Learner, Sipho Ndlovu aged 18 said; “I am very happy that we are being given study guides that contain last year’s questions and memorandum; they will at least give us direction of what areas are to be studied and how the questions are structured.”

THE EXECUTIVE Mayor of the City of Tshwane Kgosientsho Ramokgopa and the Gauteng MEC for Education, Mr Panyaza Lesufi recently launched the second phase of the free Wi-Fi roll-out at Setlalentoa High School in Ga-Rankuwa recently.

The initiative is set to give the city total blanket Wi-Fi coverage, connecting over a million internet users in public spaces around 213 schools in Soshanguve, Mamelodi and Atteridgeville.

Speaking at the launch

Ramokgopa said the roll-out was part of the city’s plan to embrace digital technology, placing special emphasis on the development of education and economic development.

“This is part of the plan to make Africa connected wall to wall. We would have not achieved this if it was not for the collective corporative between the private and the public sector. Since the launch of the first phase of the project we have witnessed the growth of business activities in Wi-Fi zones across the city.

“Moreover this will enable the learners to access quality information beyond what their

teachers are giving them in a classroom. It will stimulate their appetite to research on a variety of issues. This is a first step in introducing the concept of a future classroom without textbooks,” said Ramokgopa.

He further said the city would launch Tshwane Leadership Academy to reorientate educators to the concept of the class of the future.

The roll-out is part of the city’s plan to embrace digital technology, with a core focus on harnessing the power of the internet for education, economic development and social inclusion.

Tshwane gets Wi-Fi blanket coverageThe Chief Executive officer

of Project Isizwe, Mr. Alan Knott-Craig, said Tshwane was showing the world that internet access could be treated as a basic service, the same as water and electricity.

“It’s not a question of ‘if’ internet access will one day be a basic free service for all residents of South Africa; it’s a question of ‘when’. Tshwane is leading the way in showing the public sector how to make it a reality sooner rather than later,” said Knott-Craig.

Modiba's beat onthe environment

withTebogo Modiba

Feature / Environment

A Home garden can provide a family with an abundant supply

of high-quality vegetables, fruits, and herbs at a low cost. Gardening is also an excellent form of relaxation and can give you the satisfaction of having grown your own produce.

I was taught to how grow vegetables while I was still in primary school by my agricultural science teacher, he would beat me up so that I can have an ever green garden. I want share with you some tips of the trade that I have been fortunate to learn at an early age.

The first thing to do is to consider the location of the garden, the crops and varieties

of each to be grown, when and where each crop will be planted, and the amount of each crop to plant.

Preparing the soilThe garden soil should be

deep, granular, well drained, high in organic matter such as compost and humus, and slightly acid. However, it is not always possible to have such a soil and it may be beneficial to improve your soil by adding fertilizer.

The garden should receive direct sunlight all day. In addition, it should be far enough from trees so they don’t compete with the crops for water.

If you have only a small site available for a garden, I suggest you grow crops that will yield the heaviest over the longest period of time. Vegetables suitable for a small garden include tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and snap beans, and onions.

Vegetables that require

much space and yield a small return are watermelons, and pumpkins. These crops are adapted to a large garden.

ClimateWhat I have noticed is that

Vegetables vary greatly in their response to temperature. Some make their best growth in the spring and or winter.

Although lettuce, spinach, cabbage are cool-hardy plants, there are varieties of each that are more tolerant of warm temperatures than others. The heat-tolerant varieties are slower to bolt or produce a seed stalk.

Because of different climatic requirements and different maturity rates for various vegetables, it is wise to use successive cropping in the garden. This conserves space and enables you to grow a variety of crops.

Examples of successive cropping systems are: spinach, lettuce, green onions, or endive,

followed by beans, tomatoes, peppers, or eggplant; cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, beets, or peas, followed by snap beans, cowpeas, or corn; beans followed by late cabbage, cauliflower, or corn; or corn followed by beans, beets, lettuce, turnips, carrots, or by spinach.

Making a DecisionAfter deciding on the

vegetables to be included in your garden, you must make the important decision of what varieties to grow. Vegetable varieties differ in their adaptation to different areas and soil type.

To insure a steady supply of crops such as sweet corn or snap beans, you can make successive plantings several days apart. Harvests can also be spread out by planting varieties that mature at different times.

This is especially true with plant diseases that cannot be controlled by spraying or dusting with chemicals.

Examples of such diseases are Fusarium and Verticillium wilts of tomato, Stewart’s wilt of sweet corn, tobacco mosaic virus of peppers, and cucumber mosaic virus of cucumbers.

I hope this information aid well tohelp increased the number of quantity of vegetable you grow, In future I will keep on sharing with you some of the tips of preparing a garden.

When litter in his neighbourhood reached an

unprecedented level, Mr. Abraham Maboya decided to start a recycling project and giving hope to most people that the community members had written off.

In 2007, the sight of cans, bottles, scrap metasl and cardboard boxes littered in his

neighbourhood in Soshanguve, led Maboya to embark on a public service project that has resulted in a small-scale recycling service called “Maboya Estate.”

“I think the project keeps these young people who are addicted to drugs busy so that they do not think of using drugs and commit criminal activities. I am happy with the impact that the project has had in keeping the environment

clean, fighting the scourge of drug abuse and crime in our area,” said Maboya.

Ward 35 Councillor Ms. Poppy Maseko shared Maboya’s sentiments and lauded the project for having a positive impact in the community.

“I am happy with the work of the project in keeping the environment clean as well as keeping these young people addicted to nyaope busy for

most of the time. It reduces their need to use the substance as well as stealing from communities,” said Maseko.

One of the drug users working on the project, Mr. Tsietsi Mathebula said he is still hopeful that one day he will kick off the bad habit. Fellow employee Mr. Kagiso Satekge shared Mathebula’s sentiments and said he would have not used drug if he would have known its devastating

effects. “None of us like nyaope

and if we knew its impacts, we would have not started. We have got to work hard in order to free ourselves from our addictions,” said Sathekge.

Although Maboya does not earn a great deal of money from the project, he says it makes him happy. The project often targets local parks where litter is a problem and young people often gather.

USING THE WORD ENTREPRENEUR

CORRECTLY- Part 1

The word Entrepreneur, in many instances has been wrongly used by

labeling any person starting a business/organisation an entrepreneur. One could then ask, what is an Entrepreneur? Every entrepreneur started as a Business Person and graduated to the level/status of entrepreneur after having stood the test of time. Before going further it is important to ask ourselves what is a business person? A Business Person is anybody who has started a business, anybody who has inherited a business from someone else whether he/she known what he/she is doing or not, he or she is tagged a Business Person. In short, you cannot become an Entrepreneur before you become a business person. You cannot start a business today and be called an Entrepreneur. It is senseless and very ridiculous.

From the level of a business person to that of entrepreneur is a journey many people have failed to pursue (live up to) whiles a few have painfully assumed significant accountability and sustainability that lead to growth and expansion for the inherent risks and the outcome. Every business person aspires to be called an entrepreneur in the future. As you read this article as a business person follow my advice in order to become an entrepreneur one of the good days.

As a business person you have to read and learn everything you do in your business. Attend as much business, Management, Leadership and human development workshops and trainings to improve you as a business person. Don’t allow yourself to remain ignorant about the world around you. Every three months make an effort to have set as a participant in one

or more workshops and training sessions. Whatever you have been taught transfer it to your employees in a form of in-house training. Learn Management and Administration of your business. Put all necessary and required business processes, methods, procedures, policies, structures, code of good practice, monitoring processes and schedules, learn Economies & diseconomies of scale, Mark-up percentages, get involved without compromise into authentic record keeping and subscribe to all business progressive forms and adhere to the implementation of eight business functions which constitute a performance management systems. This takes time and effort. This kind of act requires a type of personality who is willing to take upon him/her the responsibility to accept the outcomes of his/her input.

In the process of learning

and transferring knowledge, the aspiring business person develops characteristics that enhance his/her personality. The business person begins to be able to read, understand and interrogate the Cash-Flow Statement, Profit and Loss Statement and its Balance Sheet. The Business Person ensures that there is serious effort been put in the development of the human capital within the business or organisation. The efficiency and effectiveness of the human capital becomes a pride of business management style. Business profits after taxation and dividend sharing, a substantial portion is distributed proportionally amongst the staff for their own personal growth. This moral exercise becomes an annual event. As the business person gradually graduates in intelligence and in emotional intelligence, ensures that peace and harmony exist in and around the business or organisation. Gradually the employees no longer see themselves as employees but as business partners coming to uplift the standard and profitability of the business or organisation.

Time dawns when the business person learns the fine art of persuasion. Understanding that gone are the command-and-control days of executives managing by decree. As the business person sees businesses run largely by cross-functional teams of peers and populated

by new generation X offspring, who show little tolerance for unquestioned authority, creates conducive and moral values acceptable by all within the business.

Work today gets done in an environment where people don’t just ask what should I do? but why should I do it? When many businesses cannot face such challenges, the business person grows above all and sundry. MEMBER OF the Executive Committee (MEC) of Economic Development in Gauteng, Mr. Lebogang Maile, said the re-

industrialisation of the township will form the backbone of the province’s radical economic transformation agenda for the next five years.

Maile was speaking at the

packed Falala Community Hall in Soshanguve, during a consultation meeting with local business people on the proposed Township Revitalisation Economic programme.

The programme formed the core of Premier David Makhura’s state of the Province address.

Maile said the campaign was geared towards forging partnerships to build durable and productive townships business and to mainstream and revitalise the township economy by generating inclusive growth and improve the quality of the life of the people in the area.

He said this would be achieved through government intervention by supporting the development of township enterprises, co-operatives and Small Medium Micro Economic Enterprises.

“In our effort to stimulate the township economy and overcome the apartheid spatial geography, we will regenerate the old township industrial sites and turn them into vibrant and productive site. We will refurbish and attract private sector investment to these sites,” said Maile.

The consultative meetings will culminate in a summit with township entrepreneurs to finalise the strategic framework to guide the government on the programme. He will visit fifty townships across the province.

With South Africa in 2014 ranked 175 by the World Health

Organization (WHO), for poor healthcare provision to its citizens. The North West Province Department of Health is slowly trying to diagnose and remedy the situation affecting its community members pertaining to qualitative healthcare provision.

This comes after the MEC for Health, Dr.Magome Masike, unveiled 17 new ambulances and 2 dental trucks to the tune of R8.8 million, to be shared by the 4 district Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS)

personnel in the province. An amount of R14 million

has already been allocated to purchase 30 more ambulances this current financial year. Furthermore the department has set aside R84.25 million that will be directed towards the establishments of EMRS satellites stations and a new planned transport model.

These developments come as the department charts ways to aggressively respond to the plight of communities mostly rural and to improve response time to medical emergencies in the province.

Media Liaison Officer at the North West Department of Health, Mr Ngwako Motsieng said; “The three ambulances that

has been dispatched at Bojanala District, will be shared among the Moretele and the Moses Kotane Municipality, the other one will be utilised to respond to the district’s emergencies

Meanwhile, the department also designated 2 new hospitals, Mafikeng Provincial Hospital and Tshepong Hospital that will offer 72 hours psychiatric observation.

Masike said; “The establishment of these 72 hour psychiatric observation centres in the province will partially address the challenge of overcrowding in our psychiatric hospitals, as majority of patients admitted present with drug-induced psychosis, and therefore will be observed

and appropriately referred to designated hospitals for further care.

“In future, we plan to list Moses Kotane Hospital and Brits Hospital in Bojanala District as

well as Joe Morolong Hospital in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District to offer72 hours psychiatric observation services,” said the MEC.

1. Welcome to Sports Talk. Please tell our Sports Talk readers who we are talking to?Thanks for having me. My name is Perseverance “Tebogo” Molekoa(22); a resident at Block IA, Soshanguve.

2. Kindly take us through your journey in sports as a coach.-I am a third year student at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT); doing Officiating and Coaching Science. I have always loved sports, particularly coaching. I love it with passion and I think that coaching is a calling for me. I have level 1 coaching in Athletics South Africa (ASA) and D level with SAFA.

3. What are some of the highlights of your career? It has to be coaching both the Cricket and Athletic teams at Hillview High School and recently being chosen as the champion coach for Kaizer Chiefs in the 2014 edition of Carling Black label Cup.

4. What are the commonest challenges that coaches have to deal with on a regular basis?-Having to play games in empty stadiums because, truth be told; most of the clubs are coached by foreign coaches who have somehow changed the style of play and the entertaining culture of football in our country. This has had a negative bearing on the die-hard soccer fans that used to fill stadiums to capacity.

5. Any immediate future plans?-To see myself coaching one of the professional sides, be it football, Cricket or Rugby. In the meantime; I wish to be a shadow coach for prominent coaches so as to learn the ropes.

6. What legacy would you wish to leave behind?-I wish to be remembered as someone whose singular contribution in South African sports has opened doors and created an enabling environment for sports development in the country.

7. If you were not doing what you are doing now, what else would you be doing?-I’m not so sure but I think I might be either in business or doing acting.

8. Who, according to you, is the best coach of all times?-For me, it has to be Clive Barker (Mpumalanga Black Aces) and Stuart Baxter (Kaizer Chiefs)

9. If there is one regret in your personal life, what would it be?-I’m not that old to have seen it all but safe to say that one of my regrets is not focusing enough on my studies during my high school years to get better results than I have.

10. There are relatively very few women coaches in our country, what could be the reason?-I guess the reasons are many and varied. Part of the reason could be the way we have been socialised to believe that other roles and positions are meant for men or women. But

gradually, more and more women are breaking these stereotypes and are joining the coaching field.

11. Do you think one can make a living out of coaching alone?-Most definitely, more especially at a professional level where there is stable salary with benefits.

12. There was a proposal at the recent 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil that coaches should be allowed to intervene and express their dissatisfaction on the spot upon any unfair or poor judgement by referees, what is your take on that?-I wouldn’t agree because that would spoil the natural beauty of football. Imagine a referee giving a penalty and minutes later changes a decision. That would undoubtedly trigger uproar from the grand stands. Let cricket and rugby do it but not soccer. I also have my reservations about goal-line technology currently applied in football.

13. In your opinion, how best can we resolve the

Sports

problem of the coaching position for the national senior soccer team, Bafana Bafana?-Well, the decision to change or who to appoint for the Bafana Bafana coaching position, whether local or foreign coach, is the prerogative of the South African Football Association (SAFA).We can only accept and support their decision but having said that I should think that a local coach understands best the style of play and the culture of football in our country.

After having to deal with his loyalty being questioned, discontentment and

scepticism from die-hard Orlando Pirates supporters, Cornelius Motsepe proved all and sundry wrong and made them eat humble pie.

Sceptics were bothered when they saw his picture wearing Mamelodi Sundowns sport jersey which was circulated on social media. But the former Mamelodi Sundowns Satellite Academy Under 13 Development Side Coach and Co-ordinator, 30 year-old Motsepe, a boy from rural Mmakau and also a die-hard Orlando Pirates fan, did not succumb to the pressure and led his team to victory after being appointed the team’s coach.

Motsepe’s appointment after a gruelling selection process did not go down well with supporters, because of his professional association with the Tshwane based team, keeping his cool and not cracking under pressure. He enduringly coached the Buccaneers to victory after they walloped their rivals Kaizer Chiefs 6-5 on penalties.

In a telephonic interview with Sosh Times Motsepe said; “Deep down in my heart, I knew where my loyalties lie and my love for the team kept me going. I have been a die-supporter of

Orlando Pirates since the 1990’ during the era of William Okpara, Gavin Lane and Brendan Silent and I am glad to have coached my team to victory.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity given to me by the club and the sponsor, it is an experience that I will treasure for eternity and no amount of money can buy. I would also like to thank the coach, and his technical team for their in -depth mentoring and analysis of the game. Also not forgetting the players who welcomed me with open arms and treated me like one of their own and community members of Mmakau and the country at large,” Said Motsepe.

“On the assumption that he has been awarded with a cash prize of R1 million as it has been the norm for previous chosen winning coaches, which was split two ways between himself and a charity organisation of his choice Motsepe said “This time the format was different as we were remunerated for working hours and not an exorbitant cheque prize. As for the money I am alleged to have I don’t have it.

My goal is to acquire a level 1 coaching qualifications and pursue my dreams of being involved in the sporting world. Furthermore I will be eyeing opportunities in television and radio broadcasting as I have been

told that I have the personality to succeed in those field by many

people who have interviewed me,” added Motsepe.

The Sanlam Kay Motsepe Gauteng Provincial Championship played at the Giant Stadium in Soshanguve,

saw Atteridgeville Holy Trinity High blazing fireworks and routing Thaba Jabula High School 3-0 to advance to the national champs scheduled for early October.

The tournament which is now in its tenth year, had eight teams, defending champions, Clapham, Holy Trinity, Eastbank, Waterstone, Mom Seboni,KgoroYaThuto,ThabaJabula and IR Lesolang High School battling it out for the provincial title.

The high standard of football and clinical performances displayed in all the matches bore testimony about the level of school sports in the province. SuperSport United development side, Holy Trinity, played against Thaba Jabula in the final.

Holy Trinity started the game on a very high note, dictating terms right from the middle of the park .The Attridgeville-side enjoyed the upper hand and dominated the game with maximum ball possession.

After numerous shots on target, Holy Trinity star- player Jaisen Clifford, found

the back of the net with a mouth- watering finish on the 6TH minute. The highly- spirited SuperSport United development side continued with their quick one-two’s and inter-passes which confused their opponent.

Thaba Jabula marksman, Kwanele Zulu’s tantalising shot which unfortunately ballooned way above the cross-bar on the 15TH minute somehow rekindled the team’s morale.

Thaba Jabula which boasts three players from Kaizer Chiefs development side looked exhausted and emotionally drained as they frequently lost possession of the ball and missed golden scoring opportunities.

As the pressure from Trinity kept on increasing the ailing Thaba Jabula started playing a physical game with flying reckless tackles. Emmanuel Leholo’s set piece on the 20TH minute did very little to bolster Thaba Jabula’s confidence as it went wide.

Holy Trinity took advantage of every opportune moment to stamp their authority over their opponent and Thabo Mile converted a second goal with ease when he dribbled past Thaba Jabula’s goal-minder on the 25TH minute.

A few minutes after break, Thaba Jabula’s ever-hardworking, Shane Phosoane, was red-carded for allegedly spitting on Holy Trinity’s striker, Jaisen Clifford. Trinity’s dangerman, Clifford, who has been in a scintillating form throughout the tournament, scored his brace on the 89TH minute to give the Atteridgeville- based side, a well-deserved 3-0 victory to qualify for the national championships.

Holy Trinity coach, Tembo Kaitano heaved praises on his charges for making it to the provincial finals and attributed all the achievements to the boys’ hard work, selfless and team spirit.

“I am really happy about my boys’ overall performance today. They have really stood the test of time and showed character. We have won all our matches today without conceding a single goal,” said Kaitano.

Sanlam Kay Motsepe national co-ordinator for schools cup, Themba Tshabalala said that the tournament was a success and praised the schools for doing a sterling work in ensuring that the school sports is effective in the development structures.

“Everything went well except that

IR Lesolang school had to be suspended for five(5) years for fielding players who were not part of the school. This is not the first time the school is involved in cheating. We felt tougher punitive measures should be taken to teach them a lesson and deter others from committing the same mistake,” added Themba.

Kay Motsepe foundation project manager, Peter Ledwaba, was equally happy that all the eight(8) teams showed up but expressed concern at the level of marketing for the event which might have contributed to the poor support from the neighbouring communities.

”This is the 10TH year since the sponsorship was launched in Orlando Stadium (Soweto) in 2004 and co-incidentally it is also the final year of the sponsorship deal with school sports. However, negotiations are at an advanced stage to renew the deal for 4 more years. If all goes well we should have our national championships here between the 5TH -9TH October this year,” said Ledwaba.

The winning team would get R100 000 worth of prize to be used for any project of their choice in their school.
