Search tips

• identify concepts, keywords, synonyms

• use AND, OR, NOT, *

• E.g., mineral* AND (mars OR martian) AND soil*

• limit date range, document type(s), etc.

• Look at Peer-Reviewed Journals (articles) tab• Use Descriptors to find similar items• Download to RefWorks• Get it @ Western to find fulltext (online or print)

• Using GeoRef and Web of Science, find more journal articles and add their citations to your RefWorks database

• You’ll need these citations to be in RefWorks for next week’s session

• Next week we’ll find more articles using SciFinder Scholar (chemistry), and build your bibliography using RefWorks

Notes on SciFinder Scholar

• Always click Exit when you are finished using SciFinder Scholar. We have a limited number of ‘seats’ (8). Today you’re using training seats (15).

• It’s easier to use if you download the client (see link on Earth Sciences 4490 page)

• A web version is coming…

• Click Add to Favorites

2. Select References to Include (e.g., All References, Last Imported folder, another folder, All References, etc.)

3. Click Create Bibliography
