The 2014 Chapter Leadership Forum held June 28 in Boston, just prior to the EASA Convention, provided chapter leaders with training to help them better serve their respective chapters. The half-day session was attended by 33 chapter officers, the EASA Board of Directors and several members of EASA’s staff.
Chapter leaders received useful information on their volun-teer responsibilities and duties.
During a session on offering great meetings and generating attendance, attendees shared ideas on what worked well – and what didn’t – at past events.
Following are some of the ideas discussed:• Planning is extremely important for a successful meeting.
Remember the 5Ps: Proper Planning Prevents Poor Perfor-mance. You can never do too much planning.
• Showing a video after lunch is not the best time – attendees tend to fall asleep.
• Meetings are better attended if you make frequent an-nouncements in advance. Sending announcements too late is a recipe for poor attendance.

EASA’s seminars are available on a “private” basis to EASA chapters/regions, member firms and non-members. Chapters and regions are offered the lowest rates for these programs. Please note that the number of days indicated for some programs can be modified. Please remember to keep EASA Headquarters informed by sending in newsletters, meeting notices, etc. Not only will this keep us informed, we can then include in Currents some of the activities of your chapter or region.
In addition, please remember that EASA Bylaws and Gov-erning Policies 23 and 24 require chapters to:• Meet at least once a year;• Submit to EASA’s president & CEO the minutes within 30
days of the meeting;
• Submit to the President and CEO and Regional Director cop-ies of all meeting notices in advance of each meeting, as well as any treasurer’s reports distributed to chapter members;
• Submit a financial statement to the president & CEO at least annually showing revenues, expenses and account balances. Therefore, those chapters that do not hold at least one meet-
ing and/or fail to submit their meeting minutes and financial statements by December 31 will not receive their dues rebates the following year.

• One chapter had increased attendance by offering cash door prizes.
• A combined meeting with another chapter or chapters can make an event more successful.
• Location is very important. Members prefer exciting, scenic and comfortable venues.
• Meetings held at the same location year after year can be useful. Some prefer to attend a meeting held where they are familiar with the facilities.
• Holding a meeting at the same time every year helps mem-bers plan ahead.
