An Introduction to Global Education Center

ECNU Global Education Center (GEC, also known as the International Students Office, ISO) deals with the recruitment, enrollment, on-campus management and the overall life-study related issues of all international students. Following the development plans of international students in the university, the main responsibilities of GEC include formulating management policies for international students, organizing job training for management staff, coordinating among different sections within the offices and with sections out of the GEC. It also provides a comprehensive service to agencies in the International Education Park of ECNU. GEC / ISO is composed of three departments: Admission and Management Office, Comprehensive Affairs Office, and Teaching Affairs Office.

II. Intensive Chinese Language Program

Intensive courses at a faster pace, intended for those who want to learn the most in the shortest time.Focusing on the improvement of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, integrated with innovative teaching methodology, like games, activities and multi-media.

In the form of small group instruction, less than 20 students in one class.Diverse courses, meeting the different needs of students.Systematic and strict management, caring about the learning efficiency and feedback of the students.Frequent lectures, cultural activities and group competitions, creating a positive as well as comfort language study atmosphere.

The students must enter China with a valid passport and student visa (X1 or X2 visa). Please apply for the student visa (X1 visa: the duration of study is half a year or more; X2 visa: the duration of study is within half a year) with the admission notice and visa application form (JW202 or JW201) through the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country. X1 visa is a student single entry clearance. Within 30 days after arriving in China you MUST complete all the procedures of registration at ECNU and apply to the Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau (SEEAB) for the residence permit, which is a multiple entry clearance. If you do not complete this in 30 days, you will be fined. Please note that the date shown on X1 visa can be your entry deadline, but NOT visa expiration date. If you are holding an X2 visa, you can stay in China as long as it is valid. Please do NOT come to China without a visa or with a landing visa.

ECNU is equipped with clinical services:The school clinic can only provide basic medical services for students. If you have a more serious and complicated illness, don’t hesitate to go to the Sixth People's Hospital or Huashan Hospital, both are near the school.

To help international students better integrate into life and study in ECNU, the ISU(International Students Union) was founded in 2009 under the instruction of the ISO. The ISU consist of international students from all across the world, who are with various interests and hobbies. ISU members aim at improving international students' academic skills and enriching their extracurricular social and cultural activities. As a non-profit, non-partisan and independent-operated organization, ISU was founded based on the independent election by international students. Currently it has 30 members and 4 departments, namely Association Department, Activity Department, Publicity Department and Study Department.Under ISU there are a number of student associations, leading by international students who volunteer to offer serve other international students. Events are held regularly by these associations to enrich students’ daily life.
