  • Starting Point – Student needs

    • Current conditions for East High wrestling is not representative of what our students deserve.

    • Other student focused needs that need attention: Baseball, Softball, Golf, Soccer

    • A series of one change/need leading to another.

    • All for less dollars.

  • Old wrestling mats needed to be cut up and pieced together to fit small spaces

  • Building columns pose a safety hazard and restricts student activities

  • Limited space does not provide program storage needs.

  • How would existing wrestling room be used in the future?

    • Flex and Fitness room• Additional PE space (from 4 to 5) during any

    given block

    • Additional 320 students served PE• Decrease the size of other PE classes

  • Why Walker Street building

    • Existing relationship to current building. (couldn’t be any closer)

    • East High needs can be accommodated in this facility

    • Existing districtwide programming (SPED) can be relocated to another facility

    • Great connection to Boys and Girls Club/community

    • Continuing students education beyond the school day• Making efficient and effective use of school facilities during

    out-of-school time• Staff work hand-in-hand with school administration to provide

    comprehensive support for our students• Provides social and emotional learning opportunities which

    leave students better prepared to handle the challenges of the school day

    • Preventing summer learning loss so that students are better prepared for the next academic year
