THE GATHERING OF THE COMMUNITY

Welcome

Processional “The Tomb Is Empty! Come See” ........................... #230 CP

1. The tomb is empty! Come and see where once the body lay. Can it be true that Jesus Christ is raised to life today?

2. The tomb is empty! Come and hear these words of life and peace: “He is not here. He lives again in all your Galilees.”

3. The tomb is empty! Come and touch the stone and folded shroud. Christ lives indeed. Alleluia! Believers, shout aloud!

4. The tomb is empty! Come and meet the risen Christ our Lord in whom we have our victory, in whom is life restored.

Introductory Response

Your love, O God, has been poured into our hearts. We abide in you and you in us.

We will give thanks to you and call upon your name; we will make known your deeds among the peoples.

We raise our songs of praise to you And speak of all your marvellous works.

You alone are the Holy One, who was and is and is to come!

Blessed are you, creator, to you be praise and glory for ever. As your Spirit moved over the face of the waters bringing light and life to your creation, pour out your Spirit on us today so that we may walk as children of light and by your grace reveal your presence. Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Blessed be God for ever.

Children’s Talk

Praise Song “Be Thou My Vision” ................................................. #505 CP

1. Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art— thou my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

2. Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true Word; I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord; thou my great Father; thine own may I be, thou in me dwelling, and I one with thee.

3. Riches I heed not, nor the world’s empty praise; thou mine inheritance, now and always: thou and thou only, first in my heart, high King of heaven, my treasure thou art.

4. High King of heaven, when victory is won, may I reach heaven’s joys, bright heaven’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

THE PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD

First Reading (Heather Kayler) ................................................ Acts 7:55-60

Psalm 31:1-5,15-16 .................................................................. p. 740 BAS

In you, O Lord, have I taken refuge; let me never be put to shame;

deliver me in your righteousness.

Incline your ear to me; make haste to deliver me.

Be my strong rock, a castle to keep me safe, for you are my crag and my stronghold;

for the sake of your name, lead me and guide me.

Take me out of the net that they have secretly set for me, for you are my tower of strength.

Into your hands I commend my spirit, for you have redeemed me, O Lord, O God of truth.

"My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.

Make your face to shine upon your servant, and in your loving kindness save me."

Second Reading (Jason Antonio) ........................................... 1 Peter 2:2-10

The Responsory

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people. and kindle in us the fire of your love. All who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God and fellow-heirs with Christ. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people. Renew the face of your creation, Creator of all, and pour on us the gifts of your Spirit, and kindle in us the fire of your love. For the creation waits with eager longing for the glorious liberty of the children of God. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people and kindle in us the fire of your love.

Canticle (A Song of Ezekiel 36:24-26, 28b)

I will take you from the nations, and gather you from all the countries. I will sprinkle clean water upon you And you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses. A new heart I will give you And put a new spirit within you. And I will remove from your body the heart of stone And give you a heart of flesh. You shall be my people, and I will be your God. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now and will be for ever. Amen.

Gradual Hymn “Christ Is Our Cornerstone” (tune #379) ................ #459 CP

1. Christ is our cornerstone, on him alone we build; with his true saints alone the courts of heaven are filled. On his great love our hopes we place of present grace and joys above.

2. O then with hymns of praise these hallowed courts shall ring. Our voices we will raise the Three-in-One to sing, and thus proclaim in joyful song both loud and long that glorious name.

3. Here, gracious God, do thou forevermore draw nigh; accept each faithful vow, and mark each suppliant sigh. In copious shower on all who pray, each holy day thy blessings pour.

4. Here may we gain from heaven the grace which we implore; and may that grace, once given, be with us evermore, until that day when all the blest to endless rest are called away.

Gospel Acclamation: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Gospel Reading ........................................................................ John 14:1-14

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Table Talk (Fr. Dean)

Apostles’ Creed ............................................................................ p. 52 BAS

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the People (Emily Pinter)

The Peace

Offertory Prayer ........................................................................... p. 341 BAS

Gracious God, you show us your way and give us your divine life. May everything we do be directed by the knowledge of your truth. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the risen Lord. Amen.

Offertory “This Joyful Eastertide”

1. This joyful Eastertide, away with sin and sorrow! My Love, the Crucified, has sprung to life this morrow:

Refrain: Had Christ, who once was slain, not burst His three-day prison, our faith had been in vain; but now has Christ arisen, arisen, arisen; but now has Christ arisen!

George Ratcliffe Woodward (1894), Public Domain

2. Death’s flood has lost its chill since Jesus crossed the river; Lover of souls, from ill my passing soul deliver: Refrain

3. My flesh in hope shall rest and for a season slumber till trump from east to west shall wake the dead in number: Refrain

The Lord’s Prayer

Collect of the Day ....................................................................... p. 340 BAS

Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. Give us grace to love one another and walk in the way of his commandments, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Doxology ...................................................................................... p. 214 BAS

Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

Recessional “The Eastertide with Joy Was Bright”

1. That Eastertide with joy was bright; the sun shone out with fairer light, alleluia, alleluia! When, to their longing eyes restored, the apostles saw their risen Lord. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

2. He bade them see his hands, his side, where yet the glorious wounds abide; alleluia, alleluia! the tokens true which made it plain their Lord indeed was risen again. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

3. From every weapon death can wield thine own redeemed forever shield: alleluia, alleluia! O Lord of all, with us abide in this our joyful Eastertide. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

4. Jesus, the king of gentleness, do thou thyself our hearts possess, alleluia, alleluia! That we may give thee all our days the tribute of our grateful praise. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

GRATITUDE AND GIVING

We trust in God to supply our needs through this crisis and are deeply

grateful for his provision.

Thank you to all who have found a way to keep giving. You have

been generous. This allows us to carry on with the ministry

entrusted to this body (albeit in adjusted formats) and to care for

our building in anticipation of being able to gather within it again.

If you are able to continue giving, here are the methods available:

Interac E-transfer to [email protected] (include your address in

the message if you have not given before).

Mail your envelope – we check the mailbox regularly.

Pre-authorized debit:

Download the form and return it to [email protected].

Arranging a time to drop off banking information is best.

Email [email protected] if you need to make adjustments

(please provide 10 days notice as the process cannot be

stopped closer to the date).

Go to staidan.ca, click on the DONATE link at the top of the page

to give through PayPal (this option has fees associated with it

and decreases the amount that comes to St. Aidan).

If you are not able to give because of changes to your financial

situation, we understand; still, please continue to pray with us for

God's graceful provision within our church body.
