Collect of the Day Celebrant The Lord be with you.

People And also with you. Celebrant Let us pray.

Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The people are seated for the reading of the first lesson.

Lesson Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: "To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live. The LORD created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth -- when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world's first bits of soil. When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the human race."

Reader Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. People Thanks be to God.

The people remain seated and say the Psalm.

Psalm 8Domine, Dominus noster

1 O LORD our Governor, *how exalted is your Name in all the world!

2 Out of the mouths of infants and children *your majesty is praised above the heavens.

3 You have set up a stronghold against your adversaries, *to quell the enemy and the avenger.

4 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, *the moon and the stars you have set in their courses,

5 What is man that you should be mindful of him? *the son of man that you should seek him out?

4

6 You have made him but little lower than the angels; *you adorn him with glory and honor; (Continued on next page.)

7 You give him mastery over the works of your hands; *you put all things under his feet:

8 All sheep and oxen, *even the wild beasts of the field,

9 The birds of the air, the fish of the sea, *and whatsoever walks in the paths of the sea.

10 O LORD our Governor, *how exalted is your Name in all the world!

The people remain seated for the second lesson.

Lesson Romans 5:1-5Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Reader Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. People Thanks be to God.

The people stand as they are able and sing. They remain standing for the Gospel Lesson.

Hymn #686 (verses 1 and 2) Come, thou fount of every blessingNettleton

Gospel Lesson John 16:12-15

Gospeller The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St John. People Glory to you, Lord Christ. Jesus said to the disciples, "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you." Gospeller The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ. Hymn #686 (verse 3) Come, thou fount of every blessing Nettleton

As the gospel procession returns to the altar, the people are seated.

The Nicene CreedWe believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Prayers of the People

The people remain standing, as they are able. The Leader ends each petition: We pray to the Lord. The People respond: Lord, hear our prayer. The Celebrant says the concluding Collect.

The Confession of SinThe Celebrant says

Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. The people stand or kneel, as they are able.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. The Celebrant stands and says

Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

The Peace Celebrant The peace of the Lord be always with you. People And also with you.The congregation is invited to greet one another in the name of the Lord as they return to their seats.

Hymn #S124 Holy, holy, holy Lord David Hurd

The people stand or kneel as they are able. The Celebrant continues.

Blessed are you, gracious God, creator of the universe and giver of life. You formed us in your own image and called us to dwell in your infinite love. You gave the world into our care that we might be your faithful stewards and show forth your bountiful grace. But we failed to honor your image in one another and in ourselves; we would not see your goodness in the world around us; and so we violated your creation, abused one another, and rejected your love. Yet you never ceased to care for us, and prepared the way of salvation for all people.Through Abraham and Sarah you called us into covenant with you. You delivered us from slavery, sustained us in the wilderness, and raised up prophets to renew your promise of salvation. Then, in the fullness of time, you sent your eternal Word, made mortal flesh in Jesus. Born into the human family, and dwelling among us, he revealed your glory. Giving himself freely to death on the cross, he triumphed over evil, opening the way of freedom and life.On the night before he died for us, Our Savior Jesus Christ took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his friends, and said: “Take, eat: This is my Body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:Celebrant and People

The Celebrant continues

Remembering his death and resurrection, we now present to you from your creation this bread and this wine. By your Holy Spirit may they be for us the Body and Blood of our Savior Jesus Christ. Grant that we who share these gifts may be filled with the Holy Spirit and live as Christ’s Body in the world. Bring us into the everlasting heritage of your daughters and sons, that with all your saints, past, present, and yet to come, we may praise your Name for ever.Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,The Celebrant and the people pray together.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Breaking of the BreadThe Celebrant breaks the bread. A period of silence is kept.
