Toughened Glass Splashbacks and Glass Wall Panels
Toughened Glass Splashbacks
Toughened (or tempered) glass, in our expert opinion, isthe only suitable option for glass splashbacks. Toughenedglass is heat resistant to 220 degrees Celsius and virtuallynever breaks due to heat. In over 12 years of supplyingand installing toughened glass splashbacks we have neverhad a panel break due to heat behind the hob.
Toughened glass is five times more impact resistant(stronger) than untoughened glass and will never breakacross socket or corner cut-outs.
IF YOUR GLASS HAS CRACKED IT IS NOTTOUGHENED. Toughened glass does not crack, butshatters into hundreds of tiny pieces.
There is an easy way to tell if the glass is toughened,without breaking the glass. Toughened glass will have anetched mark in one of the corners which is whitish inappearance. If there is no toughened mark on the glass,then it is not toughened. All Simply Splashbacks glasspanels are toughened.

Untoughened Glass Splashbacks
Untoughened (or annealed) glass is available in two forms:
1. Pre-coated coloured sheets, such as Planilaque andLacobel. This glass can be cut to size and have holesdrilled into it or socket cut-outs made into it, but itcannot be toughened. It is prone to cracking behindthe hob and across socket and corner cut-outs. It isonly available in a limited range of colours and is a lotcheaper.
2. Coloured film or foil backed glass. The colour film orfoil is typically applied locally and the glass is oftenuntoughened. The coating is frequently inferior andprone to discolouring or flaking.
Easy Glass Splashbacks are contacted regularly by peoplewho have been sold inferior products which have sincecracked, discoloured or simply don’t fit properly.

SocketsCut-outs in glass splashbacks for electrical sockets shouldgenerally be at least 50mm from the edge of the glass
splashback or from each other. If sockets are placed sideby side the boxes must be placed so that the socket coverssit tight against one another. The sockets sit on top of theglass splashback. Please ensure your electrician leavesplenty of wire so sockets can be fed through the glasssplashback cut-outs.

Q. How thick are Simply Splashbacks glass splashbacks?A. Simply Splashbacks glass splashbacks are made asstandard from 6mm toughened glass. However, SimplySplashbacks glass splashbacks are also available in 8mm,10mm, 12mm, 15mm and 19mm thicknesses. Thesethicknesses are often used for glass shelves, glass tabletops,glass vanity tops and glass worktops.
Q. Can I fit Simply Splashbacks glass splashbacksmyself?A. Fitting a single glass splashback panel is easy, and wewould recommend you do this yourself, with the silicone gluethat we provide. However, when several glass splashbacksneed to be measured to fit together this is much more difficult.Unless you are an extremely competent DIYer, we wouldrecommend that you employ a professional to measure andfit, or take advantage of our fitting service, when more thanone glass splashback panel is required.
If you are measuring yourself, we suggest you go to thetrouble of making glass splashback templates from 8mmMDF. If the MDF templates fit, the glass splashbacks will fit.From our own experience, we know that there are manypitfalls! Please see our Measure & Fit page for furtherinformation.
Q. Does the wall need to be flat and in good condition?A. The wall needs to be free of bows, twists or raised areasover approximately 2-3mm. Any sharp areas need to besanded. Unevenness less than that depth can be taken upby the adhesive. All walls must be sealed using either PVAor emulsion paint.
The walls will be obscured by Simply Splashbacks glasssplashbacks, so the surface does not need to look pretty.
Wiring must be chased into walls and any light fittings shouldbe fitted, allowing at least 10mm for the thickness of the glasssplashbacks.
Q. Can I fit Simply Splashbacks glass splashbacks ontop of my existing tiles?A. We do not recommend this.
Q. How are the glass splashback edges finished?A. All external glass splashback edges are polished.
Simply Splashbacks are only too aware of how scary the thought of accurately measuring,handling and installing glass splashbacks may seem to you. So for jobs entailing more than asingle glass splashback, we offer our measure and fit service. To obtain a quote, dig out yourtape measure and write down the sizes of the glass panels you require. Then add on anysockets that you need and any shapes to be cut for cooker hoods, etc. Either send these detailsto us using our contact form or call our friendly sales team on 08000 355614.
Simply Splashbacks will promptly prepare an estimate for you, and if acceptable, we will arrangeto come and survey your job within a few days. Simply Splashbacks take a £200 booking fee.When Simply Splashbacks have measured your job, we will calculate the final cost based onthe actual details from the survey. You will then be asked to pay a second deposit, bringingthe amount paid to 50% of the full value. The final 50% balance will be due upon satisfactoryinstallation of your glass splashbacks.
For single glass splashbacks, measuring and fitting is very straight forward and can be doneas a D. I. Y. job. To fit your printed or coloured glass splashback, you simply glue it to the wallwith the adhesive provided. The only tools required are a mastic gun and a sharp blade.
Some hints for measuring your own glass splashbacks
• If you are a competent DIY’er and want to have a go, we like sizes to be presented in mm’sand the dimensions clearly marked width and height. Please remember that once the glasshas been toughened, it cannot be trimmed or filed, so it is important to get the measurementsright the first time.
• If you make templates, they should always have straight edges, unless there is a deliberatecurve or cut out. The glass will always be cut straight, and will not be scribed into walls,worktops or floors. If templates are supplied that do not have straight edges we will insist onreplacements.
• First check all worktops or shower trays with a good spirit level. If the base surface is notlevel, we can cut the glass out of square, in order to keep the sides vertical. (It is wise tokeep the sides of the glass panels vertical wherever you have glass panels butting againstone another). Draw a perpendicular line the length of the base (most easily the width of yourspirit level). You can then measure the difference between the base and the line at each endto determine how far out of square the height is. It is important to do this or your ends willnot be vertical!
• Next do the same vertically at the ends (sides) to let you know if and by how much the sidesare out of square. You can then measure between your lines and add on for any off squareness.
• It is good policy to follow this advice, whether you are making templates or supplyingdrawings. Do not measure too tightly – always leave a little in order to fit the panels and asa margin for error. The industry standards for glass cutting are + or – 2mm; SimplySplashbacks endeavour to achieve +0mm or minus ½mm, but there can be a variation ofup to 1mm between different tape measures!
• Bear in mind at all times, particularly when going around right angle corners, that the glasswill sit on the highest points of any wall, and that few walls are really flat. Where you aresitting one piece on top of another, going round an internal (or external) corner, allow at least8mm for the thickness of the glass and adhesive. You can always give yourself a little bit ofmovement by using plenty of adhesive to pack glass out from the wall, when fitting.
• Please be sure that sockets are 20mm from the edge of the glass, or each other, unless theybutt up to one another.
• We can cut an upside down “T” shape to avoid Joins.

RefundsPayment
Because all our products are made to order, we require fullpayment before orders can be processed. Payment will beaccepted by Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards,PayPal or online transfer direct to our bank account. (Seeorder page for bank details). Online orders can be madefor some products, and payment will be made via Sage Payor PayPal. Easy Glass Splashbacks will never retain anycard details. All UK payments will be accepted in GBPounds. All EU payments will be accepted in Euros.
Colours
Whilst we always try our hardest to match colours asclosely as possible, it must be remembered that colours(particularly light ones) will be slightly influenced by theglass itself. To minimise this effect, we use the clearest lowiron float glass available in the world. Furthermore, slightvariations can occur between batches, as with all paint. Ifwe mix a non standard colour for you, we will always senda sample for your written (emailed) approval. Standardcolour samples are available free of charge.
Delivery
From the date of payment, we endeavour to deliver yourorder in 7 – 10 working days, sooner if possible. Deliverieswill normally be made by TNT carriers who will usuallyrequire a signature. Whilst breakages are very rare, in theevent of damage we will need to be informed within 48hours of receipt, in which case we will replace at no costto the customer. Adhesive is supplied and normallydelivered in a separate bag. Delivery cost in mainland UKis included in your price. Delivery outside mainland UK isby quotation. We cannot deliver to the US or Canada.

Because all our products are made to order, we require fullpayment before orders can be processed. Payment will beaccepted by Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards,PayPal or online transfer direct to our bank account. (Seeorder page for bank details). Online orders can be madefor some products, and payment will be made via Sage Payor PayPal. Easy Glass Splashbacks will never retain anycard details. All UK payments will be accepted in GBPounds. All EU payments will be accepted in Euros.
Colours
Whilst we always try our hardest to match colours asclosely as possible, it must be remembered that colours(particularly light ones) will be slightly influenced by theglass itself. To minimise this effect, we use the clearest lowiron float glass available in the world. Furthermore, slightvariations can occur between batches, as with all paint. Ifwe mix a non standard colour for you, we will always senda sample for your written (emailed) approval. Standardcolour samples are available free of charge.
Delivery
From the date of payment, we endeavour to deliver yourorder in 7 – 10 working days, sooner if possible. Deliverieswill normally be made by TNT carriers who will usually
