Descriptive Annex

1 INTRODUCTION

This indicating device is designated the EOB-TM. It is Class III, and is powered from an external mains adaptor or from an internal battery. The following description is of the “Professional” version, other versions being listed under Section 8 Alternatives below.

2 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

2.1 Devices

This indicating device has the following devices:

• Initial zero setting device on power up.

• Semi-automatic zero setting device.

• Zero tracking device.

• Semi-automatic tare balancing device.

• Pre-set tare device.

2.2 Construction

The indicator enclosure (Figure 1) is made of plastic, and is in two halves screwed together. The front section contains the indicator display/keyboard and the circuit board. The rear section contains the internal battery, if fitted.

The display is a 7-segment LCD with annunciators.

There are ten dedicated function keys (Figure 2). These perform the following functions:

• ON/OFF: power on/off.

• ZERO: zeros the indicator if the weight is stable.

• BMI: Used for optional body mass index functions.

• HOLD: Weight lock: holds weight when stable.

• PRESET TARE: used to enter a preset tare value.

• PRINT: initiates a print transmission if the weight is stable.

• SEMI AUTO TARE: tares the indicator if the weight is stable.

• UNIT: selects the unit of weight, but disabled on approved indicator.

• CLEAR: clears entered value.

• ENTER: used to enter value.

The UNIT key is disabled under this EC Test Certificate so that the instrument can only display weight in kg.

The BMI functions were not tested.

There are also numeric keys which are used for various functions including the entry of preset tare.

Page 3: EC Test Certificate GB-1252 Revision 6 - KERN & SOHN

3/12

The nine annunciators perform the following functions:

• WEIGHT: displaying gross weight.

• NET: displaying net weight.

• PRE-TARE: preset tare value operating.

• HOLD: hold function operating.

• BMI: body mass index function.

• kg: displayed weight is in kg.

• stable symbol (O): weight is stable.

• zero symbol (-o-): gross weight is at zero.

• low battery (LO): indicates the battery is low during battery operation.

2.3 Functions

2.3.1 Power up

At switch on, all display segments are lit for about three seconds.

2.3.2 Display

The indicator displays a weight up to a value not exceeding Max +9 e. Any weight above this results in “Err” being displayed instead of the weight value.

Negative weight values are indicated with a minus sign. Excessive negative weight results in “ErrL” being displayed instead of the weight value.

2.3.3 Semi-automatic zero setting device

The ZERO key sets zero. A successful zero can only be set if the weight value is stable. Zero is indicated by the “zero” annunciator being illuminated.

The zero-setting range is ≤ 4 % of maximum capacity.

2.3.4 Zero tracking device

Zero tracking operates when the indication is at zero, or at a negative Net value equivalent to Gross zero, and when the weight display is stable within a range not exceeding 4 % of maximum capacity.

2.3.5 Semi-automatic tare device

The SEMI AUTO TARE key initiates the semi-automatic subtractive tare device. Maximum tare effect is equivalent to maximum capacity.

2.3.6 Pre-set tare device

A preset tare may be keyed in using the numeric keypad.

3 TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

3.1 Technical data

Power supply 9-15 V DC

Maximum number of scale intervals 6 000 (single or multi-interval)

Load cell excitation voltage 5 VDC

Minimum load cell impedance 195 Ω

Maximum load cell impedance 1 200 Ω

Minimum input voltage per verification scale interval 0.83 µV

Measuring range minimum voltage 0 mV

Measuring range maximum voltage 2 mV

Fraction of maximum permissible error Pind = 0.5

Operating temperature range + 5 °C to + 35 °C

3.2 Power supply

The indicator may be powered from any suitable dc supply. Any compatible CE-marked mains adaptor may be used.

4 INTERFACES

The instrument has the following protected interfaces:

• Load cell connection.

• RS232 connection, for printers etc.

5 SOFTWARE

5.1 The program is held in firmware, on the circuit board.

5.2 Access to the setup/configuration mode is only allowed by removing a seal to access a test pin.

6 INSCRIPTIONS

The instrument shall bear the following legends:

Manufacturer’s mark or name Serial number EC Test Certificate number

7 LOCATION OF SEALS AND VERIFICATION MARKS

7.1 The data plate is mounted on the rear of the indicator, so that it is easily accessible and clearly visible in its regular operating position. The CE mark shall be impossible to remove without damaging it. The data plate shall be impossible to remove without it being destroyed.

The markings and inscriptions shall fulfil the requirements of Paragraph 1 of Annex IV of the Directive 2009/23/EC.

5/12

7.2 The indicator housing is sealed as shown in Figure 2. A seal placed over a screw in the battery box prevents opening of the housing. Access to the test pin that allows calibration is prevented by a seal.

7.3 Components that may not be dismantled or adjusted by the user (e.g. load cell connections) will be secured by either a wire and seal, or by a tamper evident label and securing mark. The securing mark may be either:

− a mark of the manufacturer and/or manufacturer’s representative, or

− An official mark of a verification officer.

8 ALTERNATIVES

8.1 “Normal” version: reduced functionality with only nine keys (ON/OFF, ZERO, BMI, HOLD, UNIT, SLOW, ↑, ↓, PRINT).

8.2 “Simple” version: reduced functionality with only seven keys (ON/OFF, ZERO, BMI, UNIT, ↑, ↓, PRINT).

8.3 “Simple” version: reduced functionality with only four keys (ON/OFF, ZERO, TARE, HOLD).

8.4 Having the EOB-TM indicator with the additional function "PRE-TARE" value added to the keypad. The new display will have a function key called “M1-5” (Memory key) instead of the original “Unit” key. 8.5 Having the EOB-TM indicator with a modified keypad (Figure 5). There are two new function keys called “PRE-TARE” and “TARE” which replace the previous keys of “SEMI-AUTO TARE” and “PRESET TARE” respectively. The function of the “TARE” key is the same as the old “SEMI-AUTO TARE” key and the function of the “PRE-TARE” key is the same as the old “PRESET TARE” key. 8.6 Having the EOB-TM indicator with a modified keypad (Figure 6). The function key called Zero will now be replaced by the symbol "→0←". The function key called “ON” will now be replaced by one “ON” and “OFF” button. The function key called “OFF” will now be replaced by “PRINT”. 8.7 Having a modified power supply: the instrument may be powered by 6 x 1.5 V alkaline batteries or a 7.2 V rechargeable battery.

8.8 Having EOB-TM digital indicator which has been fitted with two magnets positioned at the rear of the housing to allow the indicator to be affixed to any suitable magnetic surface. The indicator designation will remain the same but it will have two versions; “version A = without magnets" and "version B = with magnets".
