49er FX is the newest modality inwomen's Olympic sailing.

They are modern high performance boatsbelonging to the Skiff category. Theseboats are very fast and require excellenttechnique and coordination between itscrew in order to sail at high speeds yetsafely.Because of this, great physical condition,ability, balance and courage are required.

49er FX are single hull boats, with tworigid lateral wings which make themmore aerodynamic and stable. This iswhere the members of the crew areusually situated. The hull is the same asthe one used in the men's Olympicmodality known as 49er. The mast in theFX is shorter and softer, reducing the sailsurface approximately 15%.

These boats are built with the mostcompetitive materials in the nauticalworld (epoxy resins, carbon fibres).

The crew is composed of two women, the helm and crew,who distribute the sailing tasks in order to achieve fullperformance. The boat is composed of three sails,mainsail, jib and spinnaker, as well as two trapezes, onefor each of the members of the crew.

Races in this modality usually take place near the beachshore or port. The courses are short compared to otherOlympic modalities and usually last 30 minutes each.Intensity, speed and action stand out par excellence.

The 49er, model for the 49erFX and which share many ofits components, is a well accepted modality in Spain sinceit began in the Sidney 2000 Olympics. Here, SantiagoLopez Vazquez and Javier de La Plaza, presently coachingour team, came in 4th place and Iker Martinez with XabierFernandez got the Gold in Athens as well as the Silver inthe Pekin Olympics.

49erFXOn January 3rd, 2013, at 1pm, webegan our new adventure in the CentroGalego de Vela ramp. Our objective forthe next three years is clear:

The 49er FX is a new modality in theOlympic program. More than ahandicap, we see this as a challenge, asa motivation to join our forces anddetermination in order to achieve ourgoals, as we did in the Match Race.
