Edible Cell Model
Folded Fruit Roll-up: Endoplasmic Reticulum
Side covered in sprinkles= Rough ER
M & M’s: Peroxisomes
Sprinkles= Ribosomes
Nucleolus: Fruit Gusher
Nucleus: Reese’s Cup
Marshmallow: Vacuole
Nuclear Membrane: Edge of Reese’s Cup
Sour Punch strand: cytoskeleton
Fruit by the Foot: Cell Wall
Twizzlers: Cell Membrane Yellow gummy worm:
Mitochondria
Blue Gummy Worm: Chromatin (fell off nucleus before picture was taken)
White Frosting: Chloroplast
Brown Icing: Cytoplasm
Group of Twizzlers: Golgi Apparatus
Slide #2
• M &M’s: Peroxisomes- Convert stored oils into energy molecules
• We chose M & M’s because they are small• Folded Fruit Roll Up: Endoplasmic Reticulum-
Makes, stores, and transports proteins• We chose this organelle because it looked like
other E.R.s we have seen before.

Slide #3• Nucleolus: Fruit Gusher- Transcribes RNA – We picked the fruit
gusher because inside the gusher is goo that represents the genetic code.
• Nucleus: Reese’s Cup- Controls the action of the cell- We Picked the Reese’s Cup because it was the best part and it controlled the cell like the nucleus
• Nuclear Membrane: Edge of Reese’s Cup- Controls on what goes in and out of the cell- We picked this because in the middle (peanut butter) would be the nucleus and the outside (chocolate) would be the nuclear membrane.
• Vacuole: Marshmallow- Stores nutrients and water that the cells need to survive- We picked the marshmallow because it was the biggest part on the cell and was able to hold food and water.

Slide #4• Mitochondria: Yellow Gummy Worms- Produces ATP- We picked it
because it looked different from the other parts and had its own DNA.
• Cytoskeleton: Sour Punch Strand- helps the cell keep its rigidity- We picked this because it looked like the right part for the organelle
• Cell Membrane: Twizzlers- Controls what goes in and out of the cell- We picked this because it was long enough to cover the outside of the cell and it was able to let things in and out of the cell.
• Cell Wall: Fruit by the Foot- helps protect the cell and help keeps the cell shape- We chose it because it can expand and is able to keep the cells shape.

Slide #5 & #6
• Cytoplasm: Brown Icing- All organelles are suspended in here- We chose it because it the icing is able to hold all of the organelles
• Chloroplast: White Frosting- Convert the Sun’s rays into energy- We chose this because it gave it color and made it stand out
• Chromatin: Blue Gummy Worm- make up content of nucleus- We chose this because it was in a clump like chromatin would be.
• Golgi Apparatus: Group of Twizzlers- pack and move lipids and proteins- We chose this because the twizzlers have twisted pieces that look like they are moving the proteins around.
