LOS ANGELES — Odd as it seems, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig are joining the ranks of Lifetime movie stars.

The channel said Thursday they play a couple who befriend a pregnant woman in hopes of adopting her child. The film’s ominous title is “A Deadly Adoption.”

The actors and former “Saturday Night Live” stars are unlikely actors for the Lifetime movie franchise, which tends to strike a serious tone.

Ferrell and Wiig appeared together in the big-screen movie “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” playing it strictly for laughs.

Lifetime has kept “A Deadly Adoption” under wraps but says it already has been taped. A debut date hasn’t been announced, but the channel is aiming for early summer. (ap)

NEW YORK — A late-night glimpse of a Pentecostal church while he was walking his dog inspired country singer Billy Ray Cyrus to dream up a television series that the CMT network said will become part of its schedule early next year.

Cyrus will star in the com-edy “Still the King” as Vernon Brown, a one-hit country star turned Elvis Presley imperson-ator who becomes a minister at a country church outside of Nashville, Tennessee.

CMT also is planning a docuseries on “American Idol” singer Kellie Pickler and her marriage, a coming-of-age documentary involving a group of friends in small-town Florida, a series starring YouTube prankster Ed Bassmaster and a late-night talk show with Josh Wolf, a former sub on Chelsea Handler’s E! Entertainment network show.

The network announced its plans for the next year in a meeting with advertisers in Manhattan on Thursday.

“Still the King” puts CMT back into business with Cyrus, daddy of Miley and frequent pres-ence on the network when his “Achy Breaky Heart” was a hit two decades ago.

“We built bridges around the world together in the early ‘90s, places where country music hadn’t been or hadn’t been for a long time,” Cyrus said in an interview. “Getting together again with CMT was very exciting.”

One night when his tour bus made a gas stop on the Gulf Coast, Cyrus walked with his dog and began thinking about how Elvis Presley performed in the area at the start of his career. He saw a church in the distance, and things came together in his mind when the bus ride resumed.

“I was sitting there with a notebook scribbling out idea after idea,” he said. “It didn’t take long to realize that there’s a thought here that’s interesting, that’s funny, that’s smart, that’s dumb — all of those things.”

Since Cyrus is a country singer with a career of ups and downs and the grandson of a Pente-costal preacher, Brown’s character fell into the “write what you know” category.

“Vernon has a great heart and really means to do good,” he said. “But sometimes he just can’t help himself. Once you’ve pretended to be the King, where do you go from there?” (ap)

Beyonce releases surprise love ballad on Jay Z’s streaming site

NEW YORK - R&B queen Beyonce has quietly released a love song dedicated to her husband, hip hop mogul Jay Z, available only on his new streaming service Tidal.

Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP, File

Songstress Queen Bey posted a 15-second preview of the acoustic ballad “Die With You” on her Facebook page Saturday in celebration of the couple’s seven-year wedding anniversary.

“I don’t have a reason to be if I can’t be with you,” Beyonce sings softly as she plays the piano, wearing a backwards cap, blond pigtails and appearing make-up free.

“’Cause Darling I wake up just to sleep with you / I open my eyes so I can see with you / and I live so I can die with you,” she sings in the home-video style clip.

The camera moves around her as she croons, eventually turning on the filmer: the lucky man himself, husband Jay Z.

The rebranded Tidal streaming service was launched in March by Jay Z, backed by major music heavyweights including Madonna, Kanye West and the masked electronic duo Daft Punk, who will all be equity partners in the new Tidal and offer exclusive content.

The site also features exclusive music videos from R&B singers Rihanna and Ali-cia Keys and rockers The White Stripes.

Jay Z bought Tidal earlier this year for $56 million from its Swedish-listed par-ent company Aspiro and markets itself to audiophiles.

In a promotional video released after its launch, the company said it is focused valu-ing artists for their talent, and not treating them as mere products, in a stab at other unnamed streaming companies.

Beyonce posted the song unexpectedly on social media, much like the surprise release of her eponymous album last year that quickly became a top-seller around the world.

By Sunday afternoon, Beyonce’s “Die With You” Facebook post had been shared close to 10,000 times and “Liked” by 129,000 fans. (afp)

JAKARTA - An Indonesian court Monday dismissed an appeal by an Aus-tralian drug smuggler facing imminent execution against the president’s rejec-tion of his mercy plea, taking him a step closer to the firing squad.

The State Administrative Court in Jakarta said that it does not have the authority to rule on the challenge to President Joko Widodo’s decision to reject Andrew Chan’s plea for clem-ency, upholding its own ruling handed down in February.

“The appeal by the challenger is rejected,” said presiding judge Ujang Abdullah.

Judges then started handing a ruling on an identical challenge by a second Australian drug smuggler, Myuran Sukumaran.

Chan and Sukumaran, the ringleaders of the so-called “Bali Nine” drug trafficking gang, were sentenced to death in 2006 for trying to smuggle heroin out of Indonesia.

Widodo recently rejected their pleas for presidential clemency, typically the final chance to avoid execution. They are expected to be ex-ecuted soon with other drug convicts, including foreigners from France, Brazil, the Philippines, Nigeria and Ghana.

Jakarta has said that it will wait for legal appeals to be resolved before putting the group to death at the same time. Some other convicts have lodged Supreme Court appeals, which could take weeks to resolve.

The men’s legal team have mounted several attempts to halt the executions. In their latest, they called for the State Administrative Court to hear an appeal on Widodo’s clemency rejection, saying that he failed to properly assess their rehabilitation or give reasons for his decision.

The court refused to accept the application in February, and the Australians’ lawyers appealed that decision.

The development of digital world is very fast, even faster than what we imagine before. Nowadays, the world seems to be inn our palm. The state-ment was delivered by Putu Sudiarta, the owner of PT Bamboomedia Cipta Persada.

The company was established in 2002 focusing the business in internet technology for educational purpose and IT learning. It alsao provide tutorial, software, e-business, online and mobile program and cloud computing.

The man who was born in Banjar Lebah, Klungkung also said that the development of digital industry is beneficiary for Bali as a tourism des-tination. This is because Bali who has the concept of Tri Hita Karana can be supported by the development of digital industry. The concept supported by the digital industry is Pawongan where the human can gain more knowledge through digital system. The environ-ment will also not too greatly ex-

ploited because the industry is not directly connected to any natural resources.

From the benefit of the digi-tal technology, many countries throught the world choose using it to promote the identity of the nation. Seeing the potential, Sudiarta who was graduated in STIKOM Surabaya in 1997 started to do cultural digitalization five years ago. He cre-ated applications and games about Balinese culture such as Bali Green, Bal i ’s map which has the tour ism destinations in the island where both of them can be downloaded on android.

Sudiarta is

also making D’Kala games, Ogoh-ogoh, Klatkat and a game about superhero from Bali, Kebo Iwa. He is also making 3D mov-ie about Garuda Wisnu Kencana as the form of

appreciation to Ba-linese culture.

Wiraga is used to using biogas to cook in his kitchen. Unlike LPG, biogas relies on simple technology to generate energy by using a 20-meter pipe connected to a cow barn. The pipeline serves to channel biogas sourced from cow dung. Cow dung is collected, mixed with water and then stored in a large tank where it produces methane. “Many of us have be-come accustomed to using biogas technology,” he said.

He explained that the cow dung is produced by cattle that were pro-vided by the government are that are put to optimal use by members of the cattle group in his neighbor-hood. They learned how to process biogas from training that was also provided by government agencies. Generally 15 head of cattle are ca-pable of producing 11 cubic meter of methane gas per day. So Wiraga and other people in his community do not pay much mind to the LPG price hike, because they are us-ing the biogas that they produce themselves.

DENPASAR - Chief of the East Denpasar Police Department, Gede Redastra is addressing the increasing frequent fractions that have been occurring amongst dif-ferent urban organizations since the beginning of the year. Such incidents make people uneasy and threaten secure atmosphere of Bali especially in the eyes of travelers.

Redastra, does not want the se-curity and orderliness of his juris-diction to be disturbed any such a frictions. “On Sunday (Apr 5) we summoned all the coordina-tors and members of the follow-

ing urban organizations; Laskar Bali, Baladika Bali, Pemuda Bali Bersatu (PBB), Flobamora and Pekatin, ” said Redastra former head of the South Kuta Police.

During the meeting it was agreed that all the members of these urban organization would actively participate in maintain-ing the security of East Denpasar. Should there be any issues that need to be resolved between the organizations, it would be down so in a familial atmosphere by involving the chairmen or coor-dinators.

“If there are any incidents

or criminal cases involving the organizations, the perpetrators must be ready to surrender to the legal process. This agreement is most important and must be adhered to by all members of the organizations.” he said.

In addition, representatives of each urban organization were asked to hold regular meetings to establish coordination with the other organizations. “We do not want, for example, a trivial prob-lem to trigger a larger problem and end up involving all mem-bers of the organization. Let’s maintain security and orderliness

for everyone’s mutual benefit,” added Redastra.

Meanwhile, lawyer, Nengah Jimat, expressed his hope that the urban organizations would return to their respective functions and purposes, especially for the sake of social and cultural peace and external control of the govern-ment. “I am concerned by the various disputes involving these organizations that have been oc-curring,” he said.

These urban organizations must work to maintain the order and safety of Bali not do the opposite. Bali known as a peace-

ful, safe and friendly region and should remain so. Any misunder-standings that could lead to crime should be resolved as well as pos-sible so as to avoid conflict, and certainly legal problems. “We need people to keep the peace and comfort of Bali. The government plays an important role in provid-ing input and mediating issues,” said Jimat.

Security issues are the respon-sibility of all members of society, including urban organizations. Bali as a tourist destination should be maintained as a peace-ful place. (rah)

Putu Wiragia inhabitant of Tukadmungga Village Buleleng is using biogas to cook

Biogas viable alternative to LPGSINGArAJA - Cow dung

biogas production is being de-veloped by a villager from Tu-kad Mungga, Buleleng named Putu Wiragia. In anticipation of a surge in the price of liq-uefied petroleum gas (LPG), Wiraga has spent the last four years producing biogas to help ease the economic burden of his community, he told the press on Sunday (Apr. 5).

biogas are large enough for cooking and are in no inferior to flames that consume LPG. Perhaps others will turn to this solution as the price of LPG soars,” added Wiragia.

To make sure that things run smoothly, tanks of biogas must be close enough to the house re-quiring the gas, which means that pipelines must be well installed

and well maintained to ensure that there is always enough pressure. “The distance between houses has an impact on reducing the pressure of the biogas. Houses

must be no more than 500 meters from the tank to be sure that there is the right amount of pressure for the biogas to work,” he said. (kmb34)

These genetically engineered foods could receive government ap-proval in the coming years, following the OK given recently given to apples that don’t brown and potatoes that don’t bruise.

The companies and scientists that have created these foods are hoping that American customers will be at-tracted to the health benefits and con-venience and overlook any concerns about genetic engineering.

“I think once people see more of the benefits they will become more accepting of the technology,” says Michael Firko, who oversees the Agriculture Department’s regulation of genetically modified organisms, or GMOs.

Critics aren’t so sure. They say there should be more thorough regu-lation of modified foods, which are grown from seeds engineered in labs, and have called for mandatory label-ing of those foods. The Agriculture Department only has the authority to oversee plant health of GMOs, and seeking Food and Drug Administra-tion’s safety approval is generally voluntary.

“Many of these things can be done

through traditional breeding,” says Doug Gurian-Sherman of the advo-cacy group Center for Food Safety. “There needs to be skepticism.”

What could be coming next? Del Monte has engineered a pink pineapple that includes lycopene, an antioxidant compound that gives tomatoes their red color and may have a role in preventing cancer. USDA has approved importation of the pineapple, which would be grown only outside of the United States; it is pending FDA approval.

A small British company is plan-ning to apply for U.S. permission to produce and sell purple tomatoes that have high levels of anthocyanins, compounds found in blueberries that some studies show lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. FDA would have to approve any health claims used to sell the products.

British scientist Cathie Martin has developed the modified tomatoes and hopes to eventually sell them as a juice in the United States. She says some of those same health-conscious consumers that have concerns over GMOs should be attracted to a prod-

uct with potential to help lower the risk of cancer.

Seed giants Monsanto and Dow AgroSciences are separately devel-oping modified soybean, canola and sunflower oils with fewer saturated fats and more Omega-3 fatty acids. The Florida citrus company South-ern Gardens is using a spinach gene to develop genetically engineered orange trees that could potentially resist citrus greening disease, which is devastating the Florida orange crop. Okanagan Specialty Fruits Inc., the company that created the non-browning apples, is also looking at genetically engineering peaches, cherries and apples to resist disease and improve quality.

A few genetically engineered fruits and vegetables are already available in grocery stores: Hawaiian papaya, some zucchini and squash, and a small amount of the sweet corn, for example. But the bulk of the na-tion’s genetically engineered crops are corn and soybeans that are eaten by livestock or made into popular processed food ingredients like corn starch, soybean oil or high fructose corn syrup. Next-generation GMOs: Pink pineapples and purple tomatoes

WASHINGTON — Cancer-fighting pink pineapples, heart-healthy purple tomatoes and less fatty vegetable oils may someday be on U.S. grocery shelves alongside more traditional products.

NEW YORK — The most com-mon species of ant found on the pavements of New York City and in cities around the world has a taste for human food — more than other ant species found primarily in parks and other green spaces, a study says.

“The ants that live alongside us in our cities also seem to be those same species that can eat the same food that we do, and do so the most,” said Clint Penick, a post-doctoral fellow at North Carolina State University and lead researcher of the study published Wednesday in the scientific journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

The researchers gathered up sam-ples of more than 20 species of ants from the sidewalks, medians and parks of Manhattan, and tested them to see how much of a particular carbon iso-tope was in their bodies. That isotope is linked to corn and sugar cane found in much of what people eat, from meat to junk food. Researchers determined

that ants eating more human food would have higher isotope levels.

The ant with the highest levels was the pavement ant, Tetramorium species e, which researchers said is the predominant ant on city sidewalks and medians. Among the samples, ants that were from park areas had lower isotope levels than ants that were taken from street medians.

Eating human food could be an advantage for the pavement ants, al-lowing them to thrive in areas where their natural diet of dead insects and things might not be so prevalent, Penick said.

“Humans bring a ton of general resources,” he said. “The species that can take advantage of these resources the best, sort of wins.”

Penick said further research would look into whether the ants have a preference for human food even if their natural food sources are avail-able. (ap)

LONDON - Scientists in Britain said Thursday they had developed the first perfume which smells better the more you sweat and reduces body odour.

Researchers at Queen’s University Belfast said in a statement that the new perfume “releases more of its aroma when it comes into contact with moisture”.

The fragrance uses as a delivery system an ionic liquid -- salt in the form of liquid -- with no smell.

“The perfumed ionic liquid re-leases its aroma when it comes into contact with water, allowing more of the perfume’s scent to be released onto a person’s skin,” the Queen’s University Ionic Liquid Laboratories

(QUILL) said. The new perfume could also take

away bad odours.“The thiol compounds that are

responsible for the malodour of sweat are attracted to the ionic liquid, attach-ing themselves to it and losing their potency,” the scientists said.

Queen’s University said it was already working with a perfume company on practical applications and project leader Nimal Gunaratne said it had “great commercial potential”.

Gunaratne said that it could also be used for other scientific applications when the slow release of substances is required.

“This is an exciting breakthrough,” he said. (afp)

The Indonesian police, he noted, are not handling the case because the suspects carried out their criminal activities outside the archipelago. “We just helped the Chinese police by capturing the criminals,” he added.

The Chinese police representatives have arrived in Bali, he revealed, adding that if they were not caught, the suspects would have continued carrying out cyber crimes by targeting those living in China.

On Saturday, a joint team of Chi-nese Police, Indonesian Police Head-quarters, Bali Police, Denpasar Police and East Denpasar Police raided the Villa Wayan at Jalan Sekar Sari Gang Nusa Indah # 12, East Denpasar. The officers arrested 38 offenders at the villa and another offender was arrested at the Ngurah Rai Airport, Tuban. Allegedly they were involved in fraud and blackmail cases.

According to Spokesman of Bali Police, Hery Wiyanto, Sunday (Apr. 5), the raid was carried out ap-proximately at six o’clock in the afternoon. The personnel involved in the raid consisted of Chinese Police, Sub-directorate II Cyber Crime of the Indonesian Police, Bali Police, Denpasar Police and East Denpasar Police. Other than arresting 39 people from China and Taiwan, the officers also secured the evidences such as mobile phone, laptop, home phone, router and iPad.

“They totally amount to 39 people consisting of 31 men and eight women. Police secure 33 passports,

while four other passports have been secured by Chinese Police, and two other people have no passport,” said Hery.

He explained that the offenders are involved in transnational crimes. Some offenders serve as information seeker or collect data of the victims in China and Taiwan. Meanwhile, the others are in charge of committing blackmail and fraud.

This international syndicate targets elderly victims. The offenders admit-ted to be from the finance department and said if the victim saving in the bank will be frozen because the bank is in trouble. Furthermore, they are asked to divert the saving into the government account, but in fact the account belongs to the offender. In the meantime, there are also offend-ers threatening to divulge the love affair of wealthy husbands to their wife, otherwise they must pay a sum of money.

“The offenders are also tax officers who know the amount of tax to be paid by taxpayers and they are then invited to make negotiation. They can be in several countries in a single frame of crime,” said Hery.

This felony gang commits crimes outside China and Taiwan because the two countries have arrested a lot of members of this syndicate. They take advantage of the internet infra-structure of other countries to defraud victims and avoid tracking.

“They have been secured in the Denpasar Police station on Saturday

SINGARAJA - More and more villas are being built all over Bali including in Buleleng, where the local government decided to look into the matter. With the aid of the municipal Police, the govern-ment of Buleleng began combing the four subdistricts of Tejakula, Kubutambahan, Sawan and Su-kasada, North Bali for unlicensed villas.

Chief of the Buleleng Munici-pal Police, I Made Budi Astawa, clarified that 16 of the villas and residences that have been dis-

covered so far are in violation of permit regulations for not hold-ing environmental management scheme (UKL) and environment monitoring scheme (UPL), busi-ness premise permit (Situ) and/or disturbance permits (HO). “Most of the villas in question were found to not be in posession of required permits and/or have not installed waste processing units,” he said.

The investigation into illegal buildings will continue in Banjar, Seririt, Busungbiu and Gerok-

gak, as these areas are alleged to have many problematic villas as well. So far they have found 38 questionable villas or other new residences, 16 of which are confirmed to have legal issues related to them. Problems so far range from lack of permits to unsuitable or no water treatment systems in place.

The Buleleng judiciary team assigned to these cases is waiting for the municipal police to compile more data on each case, before tak-ing decisive action on the various

infringements. According to the chief of Police the investigation of the villas and other residences, that was conducted in the four aforementioned subdistricts, also brought to light the fact that the the names of the owners and occupants of these buildings were not always clear. Such conditions make find-ing out about licenses and permits rather difficult. “Since it is unclear who should be presenting the licensing documents, it makes it hard to conduct an investigation,” he said. This brought the number of people, believed to be supporters of the Islamic State militant group, who were arrested since last year to 92, the official said.

The latest detentions came just days after the Home Ministry pro-posed two new anti-terror laws that will reintroduce indefinite detention without trial and allow the seizure of passports of anyone suspected of supporting terror acts in a bid to curb suspected militant activities in

the country.Critics criticized the move as a

revival of a controversial security law that was repealed in 2012 and warned the proposed laws could severely curtail civil liberties. Op-position lawmaker Nurul Izzah Anwar said in a statement that the new laws could be misused against political opponents.

The Prevention of Terrorism Act bill will allow authorities to detain suspects indefinitely without

trial and the decision cannot be challenged in court. The Special Measures Against Terrorism in Foreign Countries bill empowers authorities to suspend or revoke the travel documents or any citizens or foreigners believed to be engaging in or supporting terrorist acts.

“The draft counter-terrorism law is like a legal zombie returned from the grave of the discredited and abusive Internal Security Act,” said Phil Robertson, deputy Asia direc-tor at Human Rights Watch.

Other proposals will increase penalties for terror-related acts, including up to 30 years in prison for those found receiving terror-ism training or instruction. The proposed bills will be debated in parliament this week. (ap)

PRAGUE — Czech President Milos Zeman and the U.S. ambas-sador to Prague are in a rare public dispute over Zeman’s decision to attend a Russian military parade, and Czech lawmakers are siding with the American.

In an interview with online publication Parlamentni Listy on Sunday, Zeman bristled at the envoy’s implied criticism of his decision to attend Moscow’s traditional May 9 military parade despite the crisis in Ukraine. Zeman said U.S. Ambassador Andrew Shapiro is no longer welcome in the Prague Castle, the seat of presidency.

Parliament’s lower house speaker, Jan Hamacek, said he thought Zeman was overreacting; the deputy speaker of Parliament’s upper house, Premysl Sobotka, said Monday Zeman proved a lack of “diplomatic thinking.” Jan Mlejnek, an analyst, said Zeman’s rhetoric was unfortunate and will harm Czech-U.S. relations.

In an emailed statement from

the U.S. embassy, Shapiro said “it would be unfortunate for President Zeman to be there as perhaps? the only EU head of state.”

Zeman, whose is critical of European Union sanctions against Russia, said he wanted to honor Soviet soldiers who sacrificed their lives to liberate his country in World War II.

The Czech presidency is a largely ceremonial post and the government is in charge of foreign policy. Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said he accepted Zeman’s explanation for the trip. Shapiro said he regretted that Zeman felt offended.

“I value a good working re-lationship with everyone, and I want him to know that my door will be open to him,”? Shapiro said. “I also want the Czech people to know that the United States government, and the people of America, value our relationship as partners and allies more than ever.” (ap)

DHAKA — Separate tropical storms that have swept through parts of Bangla-desh have left at least 36 people dead and scores injured. Media reports Monday said that the casualties have been recorded since

Saturday and that most deaths took place in the northern district of Bogra.

The Bengali-language Prothom Alo newspaper reported that at least 20 people died in Bogra while five people died in

Dhaka and the rest in other northern areas as well as in the southwest of the country.

The newspaper says the storms have also uprooted trees, damaged electricity distribu-tion lines, while hundreds of homes, shops

and schools have been flattened in parts of the South Asian nation.

“Visitors to this legendary temple tourist attraction will now only be able to go so far as the middle court-yard and can no longer cross the bridge,” said Operations Manager of Tanah Lot, Toya Adnyana.

Batu Bolong Temple now has a special security guard on duty to supervise visitors. “We are also working with the temple priests and supporting devotees who will help to prevent visitors from trespass-ing onto the off limits area,” he

explained.Toya went on to say Tanah Lot

has also put up cautionary signage and has installed loudspeakers that transmit cautionary messages every ten minutes during high tide because there are always stubborn visitors who get passed the guards and ignore the signs. “Our security guards are extra vigilant when there are a lot of visitors but we have also hired photographers to help monitor the situation,” he said.

Toya mentioned that visitors from Taiwan tend to be especially hard to handle as they frequently ignore warning signs during high tide when they deliberately seek to get close to the big waves for the op-portunity to take dramatic photos of their holiday. Taiwanese travelers in particular require extra attention from security because when there are big waves they tend to want to get closer rather than move away from the high risk areas.

By maximizing security and surveillance systems, Toya hopes to at least minimize the number of visitors that did form drowning drowned at Tanah Lot. (bit)

AMLAPURA - Limited park-ing spaces is often a problem for pilgrims to Besakih Temple, Ren-dang. During this year Ida Batara Turun Kabeh ritual, that will run until April 24th, the situation has been aggravated by people offering illegal parking spots for inflated rates. As a result locals from the surrounding area are forced to pay up to three times as much to park near the Temple.

Head of the Karangasem Trans-portation Agency, I Wayan Sutapa, acknowledges that illegal parking space become a widespread prob-lem during the Ida Batara Turun Kabeh celebrations. With so many pilgrims, parking legal parking spaces soon run out giving way to rogue parking charging inflated rates. “Illegal parking spots are of-fered for as much as IDR 10,000,” he said, on Sunday (Apr. 5).

The Karangasem Transportation Agency has prepared a total of 24 personnel working in two shifts during times of worship at Besakih Temple, to deal with parking issues. The transportation agency points out that everyone is charged for parking at the front gates to the area, so by parking in the illegal parking lots, people are being charged twice to park.

Nevertheless, did not deny that such rogue parking services are

quite helpful when the number of vehicles exceeds the capacity of the government-owned official parking lot. He explained that Karangasem County runs six different parking lots in the vicinity, which can ac-commodate up to 1,500 vehicles in all. An additional 1,500 square meters of land was purchased spe-cifically for increasing the capacity of the government run parking lots. “The official parking lot covers an area of about 3.4 hectares. On normal days, this is enough space to provide parking for everyone, but even on weekends it is often not enough,” he explained. This lack of space is exacerbated when merchants randomly set up shop in the official parking lot. It is difficult to take decisive action without causing friction with the surround-ing community. Wayan Sutapa said that the problem of illegal parking and random merchants can be overcome if the governing body being prepared by the government of Karangasem can immediately operate at Besakih.

According to Sutapa, in about three months, the new governing body can begin working on Besakih so that pilgrims can pray in more comfortable conditions, and for-eign travelers can also visit Besakih which has become a selling point for Karangasem. (dwa)

Bali Museum and Jero Kuta Palace are part of the Denpasar Heritage City Tour package, and although the tour has not been officially launched yet, these two tourist attractions have already been visited by numerous domestic and foreign travelers this year. Apart from being a tourist attraction, Bali Museum is also in high demand as a venue for pre-wedding photo shoots.

Hendriyanto, a visitor from Bandung, was deeply impressed after visiting the Bali Museum. He felt that he had learned a lot about Balinese culture even though it was just an exhibition. “I saw relics of ancient humans and ethnographic objects such as tools for everyday living, the arts, religion, language and other writings that reflect the life and development of Balinese culture” he explained.

The Head of the Governement of Denpasar Tourism Office, Wayan Gunawan, said that the Bali Museum is a beautiful destination and very intense with Balinese cul-ture. Flowering plants and green leaves not only create a cool atmosphere but also help visitors to feel at home. “The current trend is to use the outdoor space for pre- wedding

photo shoots”, he revealed. In January 2015, there were 2,605 visitors to the Bali

Museum. There were 1,357 domestic and 1,248 foreign travelers. In Febuary, 2,605 people visited the museum, 1,143 of who were domestic and 1,199 were foreign travelers.

Many travelers also visited Jero Kuta Palace, despite it having been under renovation in preparation for the Heritage City Tour package. Everything is being prepared, from sanitation to parking facilities, and is nearly com-plete. Other places that the tour will visit have also been cleaned up and made ready for the Heritage City Tour Package with will be launched at the end of” he said.

Destinations on the tour include the Jagatnatha Temple, Bali Museum, the I Gusti Ngurah Made Agung or Puputan Badung Square, Jaya Saba, Jro Kuta Denpasar Palace, Maospait Temple, Badung Market, Kumbasari Market and Inna Bali. “The Heritage City Tour which was initiated by the Denpasar Municipality is expected to be launched just on schedule” he said. DUBAI - Iranian investment banker Ramin Rabii says he shouted in joy when he learned that Tehran and world powers had reached a deal which promises to lift eco-nomic sanctions on Iran. Then he called colleagues to discuss the business implications.

Rabii, managing director of Turquoise Partners, a Tehran-based investment firm with about $200 million of assets under manage-ment, has been grappling for years with the results of the sanctions: unstable growth, high inflation,

international banking restrictions and hard currency shortages.

The agreement on curbing Iran’s nuclear programme, reached on Thursday, will - if confirmed in a final deal by a June 30 deadline - begin to ease those crippling prob-lems for Turquoise and thousands of other Iranian firms.

“We’ve been preparing for this moment for 10 years,” Rabii said by telephone, adding that in the months leading up to the deal Tur-quoise was in touch with hundreds of potential foreign investors about

opportunities for them if sanctions were lifted.

He said the company now planned to develop its asset man-agement and brokerage businesses, and would hold roadshows for investors in Europe and possibly Dubai.

Frozen out of the international banking system, its foreign trade slashed by the sanctions, Iran looks likely to become the biggest country to rejoin the global economy since post-Communist eastern Europe in the early 1990s.

The resulting boom could create tens of billions of dollars worth of business for both local and foreign companies and shift the economic balance in the Gulf, which has so far been heavily weighted towards the rich Gulf Arab oil exporting countries.

“Precautionary talks have al-ready started between Iran and some big Western investors” in areas such as oil and autos, said Iranian-born economist Mehrdad Emadi of London’s Betamatrix consultancy. “Now there will be

accelerating momentum.”He predicted annual growth of

Iran’s $420 billion economy would rise by as much as 2 percentage points to over 5 percent in the year after a final nuclear deal. It could ac-celerate further to 7 or 8 percent in the following 18 months - matching the growth of Asia’s “tiger econo-mies” during their boom years.

Iran’s trade with the European Union, which totalled 7.6 billion euros ($8.3 billion) last year, could balloon 400 percent by mid-2018, Emadi said. (rtr)

The greenback fell to 119.05 yen in Tokyo afternoon trade from 119.62 yen on Friday, while the euro rose to $1.0977 and 130.70 yen from $1.0879 and 130.16 yen. Global trading was thin, with many markets shut for public holidays.

The dollar’s drop came after the release Friday of closely watched US payrolls data, which showed employers sharply cut back on hiring in March.

The Labor Department on Fri-day said world’s leading economy generated 126,000 net new jobs in March, half of what was expected and the worst month since Decem-ber 2013.

“Non-farm payrolls fell short of market expectations by a long way,” Toshiya Yamauchi, a senior analyst in Tokyo at Ueda Harlow Ltd., a margin-trading-services provider, wrote in a note to clients. “Sentiment for dollar selling is set to continue,” he said.

The department also trimmed 69,000 from the two previous

months’ figures, dimming the picture for growth after a year that averaged 287,000 new hires a month across the country.

“It’s pretty shocking,” said John Vail, the chief global strategist at Nikko Asset Management.

“This report obviously does push out expectations for a Fed hike to some degree, although we all know that the data can change very rapidly.”

The dollar was lower against other Asia-Pacific currencies. It sank to Sg$1.3527 from Sg$1.3577 on Friday, to 1,083.91 South Ko-rean won from 1,093.88 won to Tw$30.93 from Tw$31.06 and to 44.37 Philippine pesos from 44.45 pesos. The dollar also declined to 12,949 Indonesian rupiah from 13,024 rupiah, to 32.44 Thai baht from 32.47 baht and to 62.15 In-dian rupees from 62.50 rupees.

The Australian dollar fetched 76.24 US cents against 75.96 cents, while the Chinese yuan bought 19.22 yen compared with 19.31 yen. (afp)

WASHINGTON — Greece’s finance minister on Sunday told the International Monetary Fund chief that his country will repay a substantial loan from the organization that is due this week.

IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde and Yanis Varoufakis met in Washington for an “informal discussion” on the debt-stricken nation’s reform pro-gram, an IMF statement said. The Greek government has said Varoufakis will meet with U.S. Treasury of-ficials Monday.

Greece is in difficult negotiations with creditors over its bailout program, which has delayed the dis-bursement of the final 7.2 billion euro ($7.9 billion) aid tranche. That has led to a cash crunch, forcing the government to tap reserves.

Athens has been hoping for at least a partial release of the final bailout installment in order to avoid default and to pay salaries and pensions.

“We both agreed that effective cooperation is in ev-eryone’s interest,” Lagarde said in the statement. “We

noted that continuing uncertainty is not in Greece’s interest.”

Greece must repay a 450 million euro IMF loan installment on Thursday. Deputy finance minister Dimitris Mardas on Saturday told TV station Mega that Greece has the funds but it is up to the government to decide whether to pay.

Greece and its creditors have been negotiating which reforms it should enact to its economy to re-ceive more funding. Lagarde said discussions resume “promptly” on Monday between technical teams and authorities in Athens and in Brussels.

Since 2010, Greece has been dependent on rescue loans worth 240 billion euros from other eurozone countries and the IMF. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was elected in January on promises to abolish the deeply resented bailout conditions, which included deep spending cuts and tax hikes. However, the new Syriza government has since softened many pre-election promises. (ap)

TABANAN - Mengesta village located in Penebel, Tabanan is preparing itself to become an official tour-ist destination, by developing the potential that it has to attract tourists.

The headman of Mengesta village, Nengah Sudana explains that agrotourism will be merged with an archeo-logical attraction and hot springs thrown in as a bonus. Mengesta village is home to a Neolithic era Linga and Yoni or Lord SHiva and Goddess Durga statues that are now housed in Batu Panes Temple which is located in the middle of a rice paddy field. “Near the temple there are hot springs that are alleged to be able to cure some skin diseases,” said Sudana.

There are in fact a few spots where the hot spring bubbles to the surface but the biggest one is located near the temple. The road and pathways leading to and around the rice paddy, temple and hot springs have all been improved to make it easier for travellers to enjoy these sites. And, local villagers, subak members as well as third party investors are cooperating to create a trekking path with amazing rice paddy views as well.

Besides, the Mengesta village has a rule prohibiting the establishment of tourist facilities on productive land to keep the existence of agricultural land at the village.

Mengesta village also has tourism potential related to their particular cultural landscape. Both Christians and Hindus live here harmoniously side by side. “Hindus and Christians interact so well that they have produced some unique customs, which could be interesting for travellers too,” said Sudana.

The headman of Mengesta, also explained that they are also preparing the village for tourism by inviting the com-munity to get involved in the process in matters ranging from providing homestays for visitors to maintaining agricultural land that remains a central selling point of the village. “In order to maintain the paddy fields, we have invited subak members to jointly manage the tourism villages,” he said.

Mengesta village has a rule prohibiting the establishment of tourist facilities on productive land so as to ensure that agri-cultural land is protected. Many villagers, particularly in Piling Hamlet are being coached about how to manage homestays for visitors, thereby empowering the community. (kmb24)

The pre-trial sessions were filed by Siti Tarwiyah, Ilham Arief Sira-judien, Suryadharma Ali, Suroso Atmomartoyo, and Sutan Bhatoe-gana, according to KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha, here, Monday.

“Two new pretrial motions will be held in the district court comprising the case of Ilham Arief Sirajuddin and Siti Tarwiyah,” the anti-graft body’s team member, Rasamala Aritonang noted.

Sirajuddin is the former mayor of Makassar, South Sulawesi, who was named a suspect in a corruption case of the state’s water company (PDAM) of Makassar with regard to the rehabilitation cooperation for the installation, transfer, and maintenance of the sewer system for the period between 2006 and 2012.

At the same time, the district court will also hold Siti Tarwiyah’s pretrial session as her status as the

witness of corruption suspect named, Fuad Amin Imron, the former Bang-kalan district chief, Madura.

Siti accepted the accusation made by the anti-graft body’s investigator who named her as Fuad Amin’s mistress.

Siti believes that the allegation was based on her possessions such as a car, house, and land in Bangkalan, which were given by Amin.

The third pretrial session was filed by former religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali, who was charged in a corruption case related to the handling of Hajj pilgrimage funds for the period between 2012 and 2013.

The fourth session will be held to hear the case of Suroso Atmomar-toyo, a former director at the state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina.

Suroso was named a corruption

suspect in the procurement of tetra-ethyl lead (TEL) gasoline, which involves the state’s oil firm and a TEL supplier from Britain, Inospec, in 2004-2005.

The last session is the case of the former head of the House of Rep-resentatives Commission VII Sutan Bhatoegana, who was accused of accepting bribes in exchange for expediting the deliberation of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s budget in 2012-2013.

Sutan is also expected to attend the accusation hearing at the Spe-cial Court for Corruption Crimes (Tipikor) at the same time.

“Sutan might attend his hearing session at the Tipikor,” Sutan’s law-yer, Rahmat Harahap, remarked.

Rahmat added that Sutan’s legal team will only attend his pretrial. (ant)

JAKARTA - The mafia in the fishery sector is very strong as indicated by the recent revelation of two legal cases in the fishery sector, according to the Indone-sian Traditional Fishermen Union (KNTI).

“The KNTI is aware that the mafia practice in the fishery sector is very strong. The law enforcers should prioritize the arrest of the main actors behind illegal fishing,” KNTI Chairman M. Riza Damanik remarked on Sunday.

The main actors behind illegal fishing who operate furtively behind national/foreign firms, bureaucracy, and even law en-forcement institutions should be revealed, he emphasized.

He remarked that the revela-tions of the two latest cases in the fishery sector indicate that the legal process in the country over the past five months only has in-significant deterrent effects.

The two cases are the light punishment meted out to a gi-ant four thousand gross tonnage (GT), Panama-flagged MV Hai Fa fishing vessel and the slavery

case of fisherman in Benjina, Aru Island, Maluku.

“The disclosure of the slavery practice in Benjina, Aru Island, Maluku, and the MV Hai Fa case indicates that upholding of the law in the fishery sector in the past five months has not yet created significant deterrent effects,” Damanik affirmed on Sunday.

He pointed out that the In-donesian law enforcers should have set an example to the world about their firm stance to uphold the law in a just and professional manner.

With regard to the Panamanian ship, Damanik stated that the law enforcers should uphold the law by confiscating the ship, with an indictment being filed for com-mitting the direct crime of fish poaching.

“MV Hai Fa was caught red-handed loading fish, including protected species and those not allowed to be caught, traded, and exported, without proper docu-ments and has violated the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS),” he noted. (ant)

JAKARTA - The Indonesian team managed to evacuate and repatriate another 110 citizens from Yemen as the conflict continues to escalate, the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated on Monday.

“The second group comprising 110 repatriated Indonesians will arrive on board a flight from Yemen through Muscat here on Monday,” noted the ministry’s spokesman, Arrmanatha Na-sir. As scheduled, the second group of evacuees will be flown into Jakarta on Monday afternoon. The initial Emirates Airline flight from Muscat, carrying 34 citizens on board, is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta, while the remaining 76 Indonesians would be flown in on board three different Qatar Airline flights.

Earlier, on Saturday, (April 4), the Indonesians’ evacuation acceleration team, which departed from Jakarta on Thursday, (April 2), had managed to enter Tareem city through the Yemen-Oman border and have been coordinating with the Indonesian citizens located in Tareemm Al Mukalla and other cities within the Hadhramaut area to make necessary prepara-tions for the evacuation process.

One of the efforts made by the team was to convince the Indonesian citizens to leave the conflict-torn country.

The evacuation team dispatched by the Government of Indonesia comprises 43 personnel, including 14 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 21 belonging to the Air Force, seven Police, and three from the National Intelligence Agency (BIN).

The team is constantly looking for ways to immediately, safely, and efficiently evacuate all citizens in Yemen.

The Indonesian citizens’ evacuation operation in Yemen also involves five Indonesian representatives from the Embassy in Sanaa, Embassy in Riyadh, Embassy in Muscat, Embassy in Addis Ababa, and the Consulate General in Jeddah. (ant)

Another 110 Indonesians evacuated from YemenHard-liners face a crisis as Iran

looks to reach a permanent deal with world powers over its con-tested nuclear program, long a point of nationalistic pride. The nuclear deal, which they view as a disas-trous capitulation to an implacably hostile West, is being welcomed as a turning point and the start of a new era by moderates, who yearn for greater openness.

This is “the first big step in 36 years toward detente with the West,” prominent analyst Sadeq Zibakalam said. “This is a turn-ing point, one of the reasons why hard-liners are depressed.” Iran’s top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say on all major issues, including the nuclear pro-gram, has backed the negotiators, further stepping up the pressure on hard-liners.

But opponents of any deal hold important sway over the pace and direction of Iran’s nuclear program through the country’s Revolution-ary Guard, the single most powerful institution in Iran. It’s still unclear whether the Guard, which exerts a strong behind-the-scenes role in Iranian affairs, would agree to po-tential demands such as increased

international monitoring at nuclear and related sites. That could further complicate efforts to translate last week’s framework into a final agreement by June 30.

Already, hard-liners have com-plained that Iranian state television, which for the first time aired a speech by U.S. President Barack Obama live last week, has not al-lowed them to criticize the deal on air, forcing them to confine their views to conservative websites and newspapers.

Hard-line lawmaker Mahdi Kouchakzadeh took the fight to parliament Sunday, holding up a placard reading: “Any contract that brings foreign domination ... is forbidden.”

Anti-American sentiment in Iran goes back to at least the 1950s, when the U.S. helped depose an elected leader and re-install the monarchy of the Western-backed shah. But the country has long been divided between those determined to maintain the fervor of the 1979 Islamic revolution and reformers who want to ease restrictions inside Iran and soften its foreign policy.

Reliable opinion polls are hard to come by in Iran; the government

regularly conducts its own opinion polls but the results are rarely made public.

The government cracked down on reformers following Ahmadine-jad’s disputed 2009 re-election, but since then moderates have staged something of a comeback through the election of President Hassan Rouhani. The framework agree-ment, which prompted joyous street celebrations and has sent stocks soaring by 6.9 percent over the past two days alone, could further boost their fortunes.

Should Iran reach a final nuclear accord with world powers that loos-ens sanctions, the economic open-ing could give moderates a major boost ahead of crucial parliamen-tary elections next February. For now though, the framework deal struck in Switzerland has brought cautious optimism, and a series of jokes traded by text message. “I went to the shop today and they still don’t have whiskey! What sort of a deal is this?” one joke goes.

Another offers advice, consider-ing the deal remains preliminary at best: “This is a deal restricted to the nuclear program, don’t walk in the street in shorts!” (ap)

PARIS — French special forces on Monday freed a Dutchman held hostage since being kidnapped in 2011 by extremists in Mali, the military said. There was no immediate word on the fate of two men abducted at the same time.

The military said the rescue of Sjaak Rijke took place at 5 a.m. Monday in far northern Mali, and that several militants were captured. Monday’s statement did not identify who was holding Rijke, but the Dutch-man appeared in a video posted in November by al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb.

Some 3,000 French forces are taking part in the mission to stabilize Mali, which was overrun by al-Qaida-linked Islamic extremists until French troops came to the aid of Malian sol-diers in January 2013.

Rijke was abducted by extremists in November 2011 from a hostel in

Timbuktu along with Swede Jo-han Gustafsson and South African Stephen Malcolm, who holds dual British citizenship. A German died in the attack. Officials in France and the Netherlands did not say whether there was anty news of Gustafsson or Malcolm.

France said Rijke was safely evacu-ated to a French operating base in Tassalit. Hostage-taking has proved to be a lucrative business in Mali, other Sahel countries and further afield in the war zone of Syria and Iraq.

Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders said Rijke is being cared for by Dutch embassy staff and troops in Mali, and is doing well under the circumstances.

“This is fantastic news for Sjaak and his family. I’m happy and relieved that this terrible period of uncertainty and sadness has been brought to an end,” Koenders said. (ap)

If the court goes on to reject Su-kumaran’s challenge, as expected, it is not clear whether the Australians’ lawyers will pursue other legal avenues.

Jakarta originally planned to carry out the executions in Febru-ary, but following an international outcry agreed to let legal appeals run their course.

A Filipina among the group re-cently lost an appeal to the Supreme Court, while a Frenchman and Ghanaian last week lodged appeals with the court.

Australia, Indonesia’s neighbour and traditionally a key ally, has mounted a sustained diplomatic campaign in an effort to stop its citizens being put to death, while France and Brazil have also stepped up diplomatic pressure on Jakarta.

But Widodo, who has taken a hard line against drugs offenders, has not been swayed. He has vowed

there will no mercy for traffick-ers, saying Indonesia is facing an “emergency” due to rising narcot-ics use.

Jakarta put to death six drugs offenders, including five foreigners in January, sparking a diplomatic storm as Brazil and the Netherlands -- whose citizens were among those executed -- recalled their ambas-sadors.

Brazilian President Dilma Rous-seff in February refused to ac-cept the credentials of the new Indonesian ambassador. A second Brazilian, Rodrigo Gularte -- whose family say he is mentally ill -- is scheduled to be put to death in the next batch of drugs offenders.

Indonesia resumed executions in 2013 after a five-year hiatus. It did not put anyone to death in 2014.

The other seven members of the “Bali Nine” are serving long jail sentences in Indonesia. (afp)

GIANYAR - Have you ever been to Neka Art Museum? The museum is located in the tourist area of Ubud. The museum having become a tourist attraction draws many travelers. It was established in 1978 and inaugurated by the Minister of Education and Culture Daoed Joesoef on July 7, 1982. In the jubilee of the Neka Art Museum (July 7, 2007), the museum belong-ing to Pande Wayan Neka Suteja

is equipped with the collection of kris dagger.

It is said the concept of adding the kris dagger was inspired by the conviction of Pande Wayan Suteja Neka as the founder and director. When his wife Ni Gusti Made Srimin was sick, he had to struggle to make her recover. Therefore, he had to treat her to Singapore. Other than being tough, he was also very confident that his wife would cer-

tainly recover. Indeed because of his optimism, Ni Gusti Made Srimin finally recovered.

Seeing the endless struggles and prayers of her husband, Ni Gusti Made Srimin then paid tribute to her husband as an expression of grati-tude. The award was in the form of moral support to make anything related to the Neka Art Museum. “Due to similar conviction, I also ask to be given the opportunity to

collect kris dagger,” said Pande Wayan Suteja Neka.

Expansion to keris collection of the Neka Art Museum was officially opened by Jero Wacik, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Repub-lic of Indonesia (July 22, 2007). The launch was also done by Prof. Dr. Tommy Koh, Chairman of the National Heritage Board and Am-bassador - At - Large in the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs, Singapore. It

was enabled because Suteja Neka is the Member of the Singapore Art Museum Board.

The Neka Art Museum display-ing approximately 300 pieces of kris dagger including 27 pieces of heirloom kris, 100 old blades made by kris makers in the past (tangguh tua) and the remaining recent collection made by out-standing kris makers (tangguh Kamardikan).

Tim Duncan had 19 points and Danny Green added 18 points for San Antonio, which led by as many as 28 points. “Kawhi was magnifi-cent at both ends of the court,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. “He is really playing confi-dently, but he hasn’t forgotten to predicate his game on defense and on the boards. It kind of fuels him offensively.” Stephen Curry had 24 points, but was harassed into 9-for-17 shooting by Leonard. Klay Thompson was held to six points for Golden State.

“This is the first time I think since Christmas that we haven’t really been in a game,” Curry said. “We’ll be fine going forward.” In other games, Indiana got injured star Paul George back just in time, beating Miami 112-89 to remain in contention for the playoffs.

Houston overcame Russell West-brook’s 11th triple-double of the season to beat Oklahoma City 115-112, and LeBron James recorded his first triple-double since returning to Cleveland to lift the Cavaliers over Chicago 99-94. George finished

with 13 points in 15 minutes — his first action for the Pacers since breaking his right leg on Aug. 1.

Luis Scola scored a season-high 23 points to lead Indiana to its second straight win. The Pacers moved into a tie with Miami for the No. 9 spot in the Eastern Con-ference. Both teams trail Boston by one game for the conference’s eighth and final playoff spot. James Harden scored 41 points for the Rockets, who won for the seventh time in eight games.

Harden and Westbrook, the league’s top two scorers, both entered the game averaging 27.5 points per game. Harden made 12 of 22 shots and 6 of 9 3-pointers before fouling out with 33 seconds left, while Westbrook finished with 40 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds. The Thunder lost their third straight and only lead New Orleans by a half game for the No. 8 playoff spot in the Western Conference.

In Cleveland, James finished with 20 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds, his first triple-double in a Cleveland uniform since May 13,

2010, two months before he left as a free agent for Miami. The Cavaliers made 16 3-pointers while winning their 18th straight home game and moving closer to a Central Division title and securing the No. 2 seed in

the Eastern Conference playoffs.Elsewhere, Blake Griffin scored

18 points and DeAndre Jordan added 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Los Angeles Clippers sent the Lakers to their team-record 56th

defeat of the season. With six games still to play, the

Lakers have surpassed last season’s team as the worst in the 16-time champion franchise’s illustrious history. (ap)

Honda and Casey Stoner discussed the two-time MotoGP champion replacing the injured Dani Pedrosa, but the downside of a short-term comeback outweighed the posi-tives. Stoner won titles in 2007 with Ducati and 2011 with Honda before retiring from

MotoGP at the end of 2012, aged 27.While he hasn’t raced on two-wheels

since, the Australian has remained one of the Japanese manufacturer’s test riders and will contest July’s Suzuka 8 Hours.

Pedrosa is set to miss at least the next

two races after undergoing arm surgery in Madrid on Friday, with HRC tester and 2009 250cc champion Hiroshi Aoyama to stand in. Stoner tweeted on Friday that “it would have been an honour” to replace Pedrosa, but team manager Livio Suppo told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport it was never a realistic proposition. “Yes, we have talked about it,” he said of potentially using Stoner.

“There were some pros, but more cons, so we decided it would be better to leave it. People don’t realise how high is the level [of competition]. Having won a lot doesn’t mean one is immediately quick on his return. “Casey doesn’t know the upcoming two tracks, and in the last two years he has only run for four days with this bike.

“I understand a return may spark people’s imagination, everyone would have liked it, but what if he wasn’t quick? What would people have said and written then?” Suppo highlighted the tough comebacks endured by Michael Schumacher in Formula 1, and more recently Stoner’s countryman, Troy Bayliss in World Superbikes.

A three-time WSBK champion, Bayliss recorded a best result of ninth last month in a two-event cameo, after six seasons away.

“Casey is Casey, but do we really think he may trouble Marc [Marquez] these days?” he said. “Troy, too, was convinced he was going to [the WSBK round in] Thailand to win. When I heard he was returning I sent him a text message and he replied ‘Death before dishonour’.

“Riders are a bit crazy sometimes, but in the end I think who was left more dis-appointed was himself. “Another example is Schumacher: he finished his career at Ferrari with a spectacular recovery in Brazil, while on his return with Mercedes he struggled to get one podium. “At this time it’s better to stay out of trouble for no reason.”

Suppo did, though, leave the door ajar for Stoner to appear in MotoGP this season, if he’s sufficiently motivated and prepared. “If he seriously wants to return, he must prepare,” he said.

“Entering a one-off race would be more of a disadvantage, for us and for him, with the added risk of getting hurt. And anyway, I keep on believing that he doesn’t want to race full time. “A wild card entry at the end of the season? He can ask us and we’ll think about it.” (rtr)

Luiz limped off after appearing to pull a hamstring and Motta trudged off right before the end with a similar-looking injury. PSG recently lost central midfielder Yohan Cabaye to a muscle injury, while Brazil winger Lu-cas is still trying to regain full fitness. “If I have to take something away from the game it’s the victory, but we paid dearly with two players injured,” PSG coach Laurent Blanc said. “In the race for the title, nothing is decided but it was an important win.”

PSG has a French Cup semifinal against Saint-Etienne on Wednesday, followed by the League Cup final against Bastia on Saturday and the first leg of its Champions League quarterfinal against Barcelona four days later.

Marseille’s top scorer Andre-Pierre Gignac struck twice in the first half, either side of France midfielder Blaise Matuidi’s equalizer, to put Marseille in charge. But PSG profited from poor defending to score twice in quick succession at the start of the second half.

Brazilian defender Marquinhos equalized and Marseille defender Jeremy Morel scored an own goal moments later. “It’s a fair result. It was a match of opposing styles and PSG came out on top,” Marseille coach Marcelo Bielsa said. “It was nothing to do with luck or anything else, that’s why we have no excuses.”

Tensions mounted when some Marseille fans threw projectiles at the PSG bus as it pulled into the Stade Velodrome stadium, with one window slightly cracked. PSG is one point above Lyon and five ahead of third-place Marseille with seven games remaining.

“The key to the game was that we were never comfortable,” Bielsa added. “I knew that PSG would dominate play with its passing and

JAKARTA- Mitra Kukar coach Scott Cooper bemoaned the chaos in Indonesian football after pa-perwork problems robbed him of four players and they lost their delayed season opener against a team the government wanted banned. The English coach’s preparation for Sunday’s fixture against Persebaya Surabaya were disrupted when he was told hours before kick-off four of his squad were not eligible to play.

Despite a valiant effort by the understudies, his side fell to a 1-0 defeat against a club who failed to pass the government’s new ownership viability tests.

“It was quite disappointing that I couldn’t field my best start-ing eleven in the game because four of my players can’t play due to an administration problem,” Cooper told Football Channel Asia on Monday.

“I couldn’t do anything other than made an experimental line-up as you saw because we don’t have many players who were ready, even on the bench. “I hope they can handle it more profes-sionally and obviously I do not want it to happen again in the future, because it can disrupt the team preparation.”

The new Super League season was to kick-off the in February but a review to determine the health and credibility of the 18 clubs by a government body delayed that by six weeks until Saturday.

MADRID- Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is facing a mid-field selection conundrum for Wednesday’s La Liga match across town at Rayo Vallecano as the European champions look to keep up the pressure on leaders Barcelona. Second-placed Real, who hammered Granada 9-1 on Sunday with Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo netting his first five-goal haul, are four points behind Barca, who host Almeria earlier on Wednesday, with nine games left.

Barring last-minute injuries, Ancelotti will have both Isco and James Rodriguez available for the first time in two months since James broke a bone in his foot and must decide which of the two play-makers joins fixtures Toni Kroos and Luka Modric across the centre. Isco, a Spain international who was suspended for the Granada game, performed well first during Modric’s lengthy injury layoff and then during the absence of James and has become a huge favourite with the Real fans.

Ancelotti, by contrast, has been whistled by some sections of the Bernabeu crowd as Real stumbled since the turn of the year and if

he drops Isco and the team stutter again the Italian could be in for a torrid time. James returned to ac-tion against Granada and Ancelotti praised him after the game, sug-gesting he favours the Colombian, who joined from Monaco for a fee of 80 million euros ($88 million) in the close season.

“He played very well, it didn’t look as though he hadn’t played for two months,” Ancelotti told a news conference. “He showed his quality, his intensity and his ability to keep possession. He is a very direct player and always shows great vision and awareness.”

After edging Celta Vigo 1-0 on Sunday, Barca will be looking for a more convincing performance at home to struggling Almeria, who sacked coach Juan Ignacio Mar-tinez after Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat to Levante.

Barca’s Argentina forward Lio-nel Messi, in particular, will be keen to get back among the goals after failing to score in his last three outings in all competitions.

Ronaldo leapfrogged Messi to the top of the La Liga scoring chart with Sunday’s five and has 36, with Messi, who holds the record for a single season of 50, on 32. (rtr)

LONDON - Normally the can-didates for goal of the season are spread throughout the 10 months of the campaign, but this weekend’s Premier League matches produced six memorable strikes in little over 24 hours. Whether Charlie Adam’s 66 yard (60 metres) goal for Stoke City against Chelsea was the pick of the bunch or Jermain Defoe’s perfectly-executed winning volley for Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby against Newcastle United is open to debate.

But what is undeniable is that all six were goals of the highest qual-ity which left fans, pundits and the players themselves purring at the brilliance.

The first eye-catcher to find the back of the net was Alexis San-chez’s effort for Arsenal from the edge of the penalty area in their

4-1 win over Liverpool. That was followed by Bafetimbi Gomis’s acrobatic 37th minute volley that put Swansea 2-0 up against Hull City in an eventual 3-1 win.

Six minutes later, Bobby Zamora scored with a floated dink with the outside of his left foot for Queens Park Rangers in their 4-1 win at West Bromwich Albion, with Adam then blasting home an equaliser a minute later at Stamford Bridge in a game the visitors lost 2-1. Next up was Wayne Rooney’s acrobatic 79th minute effort for Manchester United’s third in their 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

Former England international Defoe then rounded off the stunners just before halftime on Sunday by lashing home a left-foot volley from the edge of the area. “It was an unbe-lievable feeling,” the 32-year-old said

afterwards, “Words can’t describe how I felt when it went in. I was very emotional for some reason.”

The victory lifted Sunderland to 15th and in the final analysis may have more lasting significance than the astonishing strike from Adam, voted goal of the weekend in a BBC poll.

The Scot collected the ball just outside the centre circle in his own half and after glancing up and seeing Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois on the edge of his area, launched a left-footed drive that hit the back of the net despite the Belgian getting a hand to it.

“I looked up and saw the goalie off his line and thought, ‘why not, especially at Chelsea.’ It’s great on a personal note, but its a team game and we lost, but its good to know I scored it.” (rtr)

ALMERIA — Spanish struggler Almeria has named former Barcelona player Sergi Barjuan as its third coach of the season.

The 43-year-old Barjuan replaces Juan Igna-cio Martinez, who was fired on Sunday, a day after Almeria lost 4-1 at home to Levante.

Almeria says that “if all the necessary paperwork is complete” Barjuan will coach Almeria’s away match at Barcelona on Wednesday.

Barjuan spent nine years at Barcelona as a defender and played in two World Cups

for Spain. He coached Recreativo in Spain’s second division from 2012-14.

Almeria is in the relegation zone after fail-ing to win in seven straight rounds.

Season finally kicks-off in Indonesia but troubles persist

PSG beats bitter rival Marseille 3-2 to reclaim top spot PARIS — Paris Saint-Ger-

main moved back above Lyon to the top in a hard-fought French title race after twice coming back from a goal down to win 3-2 away to bitter rival Marseille in a frenzied match on Sunday. However, the win came at a high price as David Luiz and Thiago Motta went off injured with PSG facing a hectic schedule chasing tro-phies on four fronts.

Premier League serves up six of the best

The Indonesian Professional Sports Agency (BOPI), sanc-tioned by the Youth and Sports Ministry, only gave the green light to just five clubs last week but allowed 11 others, including Mitra Kukar, to take part if they agreed to further reviews later in the campaign.

They advised that Persebaya and Arema Indonesia be removed from the crisis-hit league, where a Paraguayan player died of a treatable illness in 2012 after be-ing left broke when a club failed to pay his wages for months.

But ISL officials, having seen their championship reduced al-ready from 22 teams last year,

backed their clubs and refused BOPI recommendations leading to both sides threatening legal action and world governing body FIFA warning the government-backed arm to stay away.

Against the messy backdrop, Arema Indonesia opened their campaign by snatching a point in an enthralling 4-4 draw at home to Persija Jakarta on Saturday after a Fabiano Da Rosa penalty in stoppage time.

BOPI wade in again on Sun-day, voicing their unhappiness at the two teams playing and warn-ing all clubs of stern action if any failed to secure the correct work visas for foreign players. (rtr)

our tactics didn’t work.”With Zlatan Ibrahimovic largely

kept quiet, Gignac shone as he took his season’s tally to 18 league goals. But the absence of Cameroon center half Nicolas N’koulou was keenly felt, and Marseille’s defense offered goalkeeper Steve Mandanda scant protection. “You can’t afford lapses in matches like these,” Marseille midfielder Dimitri Payet said.

In front of a record 65,000 crowd, tensions were so high that kickoff had to be retaken after Gignac charged straight into Motta, and Ghana winger Andre Ayew was lucky to escape a yellow card early on after a thud-ding challenge on midfielder Marco Verratti.

PSG started well and, after Ayew

lost the ball carelessly in the 12th minute, Javier Pastore’s effort went just wide. With 20 minutes played, Pastore then picked out striker Edin-son Cavani in the penalty area but he fluffed his half-volley.

Gignac, who is set to leave next season, gave Marseille the lead against the run of play in the 30th minute when he started and finished a move. Collecting the ball on the left, he picked out Payet on the right with a cross-field pass before meeting Payet’s cross at the back post and out-jumping Marquinhos before planting a powerful header past goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu. PSG’s chances took a further blow when Luiz limped off in the 34th minute.

But a minute later, PSG equalized

when Matuidi shrugged off a chal-lenge from defender Brice Djadjedje and curled a shot in off the post just past goalkeeper Steve Mandanda’s outstretched hand.

“We were up against a very good Marseille team tonight,” Matuidi said. “It’s important to come and win here and reclaim first place. But we lost two players and that is sad.”

Marseille regained the lead in the 43rd when Verratti’s penchant for try-ing to dribble out of trouble — literally from anywhere — backfired as he gave the ball away.

Midfielder Alaixys Romao put Gignac through, and he beat Sirigu with a confident finish, and Gignac almost completed his hat trick in the 45th when he met Payet’s near-post

cross with a bullet header that Sirigu brilliantly keep out. “The players spoke to each other (at halftime),” Blanc said. “The conversations were brief but to the point.”

Whatever was said worked, as PSG equalized when Marseille failed to properly clear Ibrahimovic’s free kick and Marquinhos stabbed the ball home in the 49th.

Two miunutes later, Matuidi won the ball and released Pastore, whose cross from the left was meant for Ibrahimovic. Instead, Morel put the ball past his own ‘keeper.

Earlier, winger Nicolas Maurice-Belay’s first goal since August proved timely one it helped Bordeaux beat Lens 2-1 and keep its Europa League hopes alive. (ap)

(ap)

Framework for Iran nuclear deal may sideline hard-liners

TEHRAN, Iran — As Iran’s nuclear negotiators returned home with the framework of a deal with world powers, joyous revelers joked that “still, there is no whiskey” in the Islamic Republic, a jab at its theocratic government. But hard-liners here aren’t laughing.

(kmb24)

Eggstraordinary activities were followed by hundreds of guests coming to the park including our special guests, 40 children from Bali Life Foundation who were in-vited to join the fun. The popular Easter egg hunt, egg painting and face painting activities were the highlight of the day’s program.

As one of Indonesia’s leading amusement parks, Bali Safari & Marine Park never tires of giving the best experience for safari lovers. William Santoso, General Manager of the park says, “Easter is the best time to

continue our mission of education through conservation. We are happy to invite our family from Bali Life Foundation to share the joy and let them know about animals in a fun way”.

(kmb34)

An Indonesian court rejected on Monday a last-ditch challenge by two Australian drug convicts facing execution by firing squad, but lawyers for the state and defence were divided over whether legal avenues remained for them to avoid the death penalty.
