The singer appeared in court and, while his mother and several friends and supporters looked on, he admitted committing a crime in Washington in October.

Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin sentenced Brown to serve a year in county jail, but gave him credit for nearly eight months of time served. The credits include time the Grammy winner has spent in rehab and jail, as well as credits for good behavior while behind jail.

His admission came in a felony assault case filed after Brown at-tacked pop singer Rihanna hours before the 2009 Grammy Awards. The pair was dating at the time.

Brown has been in custody since mid-March, when he was ar-rested after being dismissed from a court-ordered rehab sentence.

He faces a misdemeanor as-

sault charge in Washington after a man ac-cused the singer of hitting him outside a hotel in the nation’s capital.

Brandlin said Brown will have to complete the remainder of his 1,000 hours of community labor sentence once he is released from jail.

Brown will remain on probation until Jan. 23, Brandlin ordered.

NEW YORK — Hugh Jackman has had another cancerous growth removed. The 45-year-old actor attended the pre-miere of his latest film, “X-Men: Days of

Future Past” Saturday with a bandage over his nose. He told The Associated Press he had a basal-cell carcinoma removed two nights earlier. Jackman said learned the re-sults of a recent biopsy earlier on Thursday and had it removed right after.

Basal-cell carcinoma is a slow-growing form of skin cancer. Jackman was treated for the same disease last year but said the prognosis was good: “It’s all out now.” He urges others to “get checkups and wear sunscreen.”

“I am pretty sure that the virus will not affect the tourism sector in Indonesia, as long as the tour-ism organizations are preparing for the deadly virus, although the virus originated in the Middle East,” said Mari on Saturday. The

minister also praised the Indonesian government for the immediate steps taken in handling and anticipat-ing the spread of the MERS-CoV outbreak.

Although the virus outbreak is not affecting tourism in Bali,

continuing monitoring and educa-tion efforts throughout the tourism industry in Bali is needed.

Minister Mari explained that one of the efforts is to be more proactive with guests who are coming from the Middle East.

Tour guides in Bali are being asked to immediately report to medical officers if they observe

guests showing any symptoms of MERS-CoV so they can be referred to a hospital for treatment.

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Chairman of the Center for Sustainable Development Stud-ies, LPPM of the Udayana Uni-versity, Dr. K.G. Dharma Putra, said that anyone who generated waste to pollute the environment, in principle, was obliged to pay the consequences incurred. It was without exception for the case of pollution in the mangrove near the harbor, so the PT Indonesia Power was said to have full ob-ligation to restore the mangrove vegetation as ever before.

“Actually, in quotation marks this case can be filed into a crimi-nal act because the issue of envi-ronmental pollution is, should be noted, not a crime on complaint. As a matter of fact, if there is an environmental pollution, police can immediately perform an investigation. But perhaps due to wider considerations, there are still potential for improve-ment. Probably, it’s the reason why it was not undertaken,” he said when met at the Campus of the Udayana University at Bukit Jimbaran.

Dharma Putra asserted that the environmental pollution issue

Bali PostSEMARAPURA - Rice poison-

ing disaster occurred again. At this time, it afflicted the pilgrims from Lombok. Dozens of pilgrims wishing to perform prayers to Be-sakih Temple, Karangasem, were vomiting after eating the wrap rice, Friday night (May 9). Even, 20 of them had been treated in Klung-kung Hospital and eight others were treated at Public Health Center of Rendang, Karangasem.

Information obtained at the hos-pital on Saturday (May 10) told if

the pilgrim group from Mataram arrived in Bali on Thursday (May 8). On arriving in Bali, the group totally amounting to 120 people resumed to Budakeling, Bebandem. From Budakeling, the group went to Ulun Danu, Kintamani, by buses and private vehicles. Afterward, the group of pilgrims resumed their journey to Besakih, Karangasem and arrived around 08:00 p.m. After saying prayers, they unwound in the wantilan hall at the outermost courtyard of Besakih while having dinner. Incidentally, the dinner of

participants was provided by the committee.

Originally, the pilgrims were not suspicious to enjoy the wrap rice because after dinner some of the group members were resting and sleeping. But before half an hour, some of them suddenly admitted to get dizzy and vomited. Of course, this condition made the other pil-grims excited. Immediately, the vomiting pilgrims were rushed to the health center at Rendang, while others whose condition was severe enough were rushed to Klungkung

Hospital. A total of eight people were treated at the Rendang Health Center, while 20 others at Klung-kung Hospital, including a child of 7 years old.

Medical officers of the emer-gency room at Klungkung Hospital were overwhelmed. Moreover, some of the group members still continued vomiting even after ar-riving in the emergency room. All the patients arrived around 11:00 p.m. and were handled intensively by the officers. “Yeah, there were about 20 patients treated here

yesterday. Having got treatment, condition of the patients was get-ting better and around 02:00 in the morning they were allowed to go home,” said one of the hospital doctors named Ayu.

According to her, the hospital had done maximal handling. When their condition improved, an obser-vation was also performed to them for two hours. Even, the results of the examination indicated there were no harmful symptoms for patients, so they were allowed to go home at that time. (kmb)

The mangrove forest which is polluted by oil

Polluting environment, be prepared to be sentencedBali Post

DENPASAr - Bali is still not free from environmental pollution. The last prominent case is the pollution to the 0.75 hectares of mangrove near the entrance to Benoa Harbor due to leaking fuel pipe owned by PT Indonesia Power since January 25, 2014.

should be well recognized as a common offense. In other words, it was no need to wait for com-plaints from the public to bring such cases to criminal domain, particularly related to contamina-tion of mangrove forest having a vital function in disaster mitiga-tion and the largest supplier of oxygen to the public.

“As soon as it happens, the investigators, police and security guard can immediately take ac-tion because the evidence is real. There is oil polluting the ocean or the environment and then some mangroves died. Moreover, the mangrove is very difficult to grow. When planting a thousand trees, the survival rate of 10 percent alone is already good,” he continued.

Prof. Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Wai-rocana, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Udayana University, justi-fied if the environmental pol-lution was a common offense. Although it did not require a complaint, the investigators still had to perform verification in order to be able to bring the case of pollution to legal domain.

“Forest, rivers, mountains, flora, fauna and the air belong to environ-ment. Now, it is required to determine the pollution where it should indicate a change of function of the environ-ment. For example, if the water can usually irrigate paddy fields, sud-denly with the presence of waste

water it cannot, so it is pollution,” he said.

All this time, Wairocana saw the officials were still waiting for the report from the public when pollution occurred. Actually, the government had a duty to monitor if there was environmental pollution.

“It’s no need to wait for the reports from the public, but people usually reported it because they are suffering. Today, no government officials saw, never saw. Assuredly it is complained by people. Necessarily, it should always be in control of the govern-ment,” he explained. (kmb32)

The rise of Noah and Liam highlights a trend toward more smooth-sounding baby names, said Laura Wattenberg, creator of Babynamewizard.com. “You com-pare Jacob with all its hard, punchy consonants, versus Noah and Liam, you can really see where style is heading,” Wattenberg said. She also noted that the most popular baby names aren’t nearly as popular as they used to be. For example, a little more than 18,000 babies born last year were named Noah. In 1950, when James was No. 1, there were more than 86,000 newborns with that name.

About 21,000 newborns were named Sophia last year. In 1950, more than 80,000 were named Linda, the top name for girls that

year. “In the past, most parents were picking from a pretty well-defined set of names,” Wattenberg said. “Literally for hundreds of years, the English royal names dominated. You had John and Mary and James and Elizabeth.”

“Today,” she said, “we get names everywhere.” Jacob first rose to No. 1 in 1999. In the 45 years before that, Michael was king for all but one. There has been a lot more variety among the girls. Mary dominated the first half of the 20th century. But in the past two decades, Emily, Emma, Isabella and Jessica have all spent time at the top.

The Social Security Administra-tion’s website provides lists of the top 1,000 baby names for each year, dating to 1880. The top baby names

that year were John and Mary. John is now No. 27 and Mary has fallen to No. 121.

Social Security also charts the fastest-rising names each year. These names may not be in the top 10 or even the top 100, but they moved up more spots than any other.

For girls, the runaway winner was Daleyza, which jumped a whopping 3,130 spots, to No. 585. Daleyza is the name of the young daughter of Larry Hernandez, a singer who stars in a Spanish-language reality TV show called “Larrymania.” “Reality TV is one of the biggest style makers today because it gives us a constant new stream of names from all over the place,” Wattenberg said.

FORT BRAGG, North Caro-lina — After three deployments to Iraq and three to Afghani-stan, Staff Sgt. Dennis Swols is agitated, prone to bouts of anger and unable to really talk about his time on the battlefield. But as the U.S. soldier sits in a small office in a clinic at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, his hand drops to the furry head beside him and his mood brightens. Settled at his feet, Lexy, a 5-year-old German shepherd, gives Swols a few mo-ments of distraction.

It’s her job. And, according to Swols, she’s good at it. “I have a hard time talking to people about my deployments and everything,” Swols said. After taking part in the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 and the march into Baghdad in 2003, he’s been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress. “But hav-ing her here, I just pet Lexy. Or I’m just sitting here and we won’t talk about deployments, we’ll just (talk) about the dog. ... My day is better every time I come in.”

As the U.S. Army struggles to address the broad swath of stress disorders and mental health prob-lems brought on by more than a decade of war, one of the biggest hurdles is getting soldiers to put aside the bravado and seek treat-ment.

A slowly evolving form of treatment, animal therapy is used in only a few other U.S. Army installations, including Walter

Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. A small number of dogs like Lexy are being used almost as co-therapists. Others routinely work as service animals and are often used for animal-assisted therapy, including in visits to patients in the hospitals.

For psychiatrist Maj. Christine Rumayor, Lexy is a partner, a conversation starter and a living, breathing medical tool that can calm a patient and make a therapy appointment a little more enjoy-able.

Lexy’s move into therapy was unexpected. Rumayor decided to put her new puppy through the training when she realized Lexy was less of a guard dog and more of a calm cuddler. So, Lexy went through about 2½ years of training before she was able to pin on her rank — she’s a lieutenant colonel — and become certified as Fort Bragg’s only therapy dog.

Van Woodruff, who was a sergeant first class, went to his scheduled appointment just a few days before he was set to get his medical retirement and move out of the Army after 13 years in the service.

“It’s hard for me to come to these appointments. I can’t re-ally sit in the waiting room,” said Woodruff, who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. “I don’t look forward to this whole process of being here. ... The whole process of being here is something that’s agitative to my diagnosis.”

US baby names: Noah beats out Jacob for No. 1Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Noah sailed past Jacob to become the most popular U.S. baby name for boys in 2013, ending Jacob’s 14-year run at the top. Sophia was the most popular baby name for girls for the third straight year. The Social Security Administration announced the most popular baby names Friday. Noah was followed by Liam, Jacob, Mason and William. Sophia was followed by Emma, Olivia, Isabella and Ava.

“The vaccine stock is still available but the anti-rabies serum is limited,” chief of disease control and environment of the Bali Health Department Gede Wira Sunetra said.

Wira said the number of Anti-Rabies vaccine sent to the Sanglah Hospital was 500 vials and the recent number of Anti-Rabies serum was 70 vials.

In addition to the number of vaccines available in the Badung Hospital, Bali, as many as 21 thousand vials are shipped per month, however, the serum availability is still limited.

“All hospitals are still providing the rabies vaccine and there is no possibility of a shortage,” Wira said.

The costs of rabies serum and vaccines are borne by the government, but the private hospitals must pay for their expenses.

Sanglah Hospital Chief Medical Support Dr. Ken Wirasandhi said the rabies vaccine is still adequate and there was no vaccine stock shortage so far.

“The vaccine and serum availability in Bali’s hos-pitals are still adequate, however the vaccine supply is coordinated by the Bali Provincial Health Office,” he said.

Ken said dog bites are continuing to occur in Bali, but our concern is that the fatalities from dog bite incidents decrease in the province.

The first rabies outbreak in Bali occurred in 2008 in Ungasan village. Since then, Bali had gone through three stages of mass vaccinations of dogs, monkeys and cats, all of which are believed to be rabies carriers.

AntaraDENPASAR - Bali’s Ngurah Rai airport opera-

tor, PT Angkasa Pura I, is paying special attention to flight schedules following the MERS outbreak in the Middle East region.

Focus must be placed on monitoring direct flights from the Middle East, Co-General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I, I Gusti Ngurah Ardita, stated on Friday.

He noted that PT Angakasa Pura has installed thermal scanners at the arrival terminal in coop-eration with the airport’s health service.

“Passengers or crew having higher than normal body temperature will be checked by the airport health workers,” he reported.

Until Friday, however, the thermal scanners installed at the international arrival terminal had not yet been operated due to schedules of direct or transit arrivals from the Middle Eastern countries.

A patient admitted at the local Sanglah Hospital died after earlier being reported of having the MERS infection.

Another 50-year-old patient with the initials AS died after suffering from breathing difficul-ties, cough, and fever after arriving from a minor Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

Bali’s regional health service however later confirmed that AS had tested negative.

A number of fishermen met on Friday (May 9) claimed that the boulders used as the breakwater surrounding the pond even made vessels the difficult to anchor. The project had almost completed with the use of boulders. However, right a few meters from the entrance to the anchoring pond looked shal-low.

As consequence, the vessels and boats wishing to enter the fishing port should wait until the tide went up. “When unloading fish catch, our vessel cannot get in. Sometimes fishermen must weigh theirs outside the port,” said Suyadi, a fisherman met at the Pengambengan fishing port last Saturday, telling that their fishing vessel should anchor outside the shallow pond. All vessel crews had to ride small feeder boat to reach the edge of the port.

The pond silting problem ac-tually had happened since a few years ago. Port dredging had been undertaken, but the sand still went into the fishing pond and made it shallow. Then, two years ago it was protected with breakwater sur-rounding the Pengambengan fish-ing port worth billions of rupiahs. After the completion, in fact, it did not work. The sea water streams broke, but the sand remained to get in through the port entrance pond overlooking the Indian Ocean and the Strait of Bali.

“Supposedly the anchoring en-trance must be at the edge, but I do not know why it overlooks the pier,

so the sand stays to get in,” said another resident, Santos. According to him, formerly the sand dredging had been made in the anchoring pond, but it persisted so far.

A development observer, Sukir-man, assessed the execution of the

anchoring pond became useless because of weak planning. Suppos-edly, the project was able to support the port activities. However, what happened instead raised another problem. As a result, it also caused the fishermen to be unable to use

the means provided such as the docking for vessel repair and the fish landing base could not facilitate the anchoring vessels. Therefore, the government had to spend again in order the anchoring pond could be utilized.

Meanwhile, the authority of the Pengambengan fishing port could not be asked for its confirmation. The office under the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs was closed on Saturday afternoon. (kmb26)

“Although there is a tendency to decline, it should still be alerted. Moreover, more and more accom-modations such as boarding houses, villas and hotels are built even in the middle of rice fields as a result of tourism. Such places need to be

watched out, so as not to be used as venue of a drug party,” he said in Denpasar.

Budiartha added the current number of drug addicts in Bali had reached over 50,000 people. Possibly this number could rise

again because many addicts did not report themselves so they were not recorded. Ironically, they were dominated by novice addicts.

“There are three types of active addicts, namely the ad-

dicts, beginners and syringes. Among the 50,000 addicts, ap-proximately 15,000 are active addicts and syringes. So, the remaining ones pose beginners,” he explained.

According to Budiartha, most addicts were established workers. Meanwhile, there were also child addicts but their number was only some few.

“In harmony with the devel-opment of some leading sectors such as property, tourism and service sector, many people hav-

ing a lot of money change over to drug. Some others take it after selling land. Fringe areas also have an impact in keeping with the rampant dimly lit cafés,” he explained.

Crystal meth was said to be the most widely used drug by the addicts. This drug was commonly smuggled from Afghanistan, Iran, India and Pakistan. In addition to crystal meth, there were also ecsta-sy usually brought in from China, Hong Kong and the Netherlands. (kmb32)

Worrying, Bali has over 50,000 drug addictsBali Post

DENPASAR - Rapid development of tourism in Bali has become a fertile ground for the drug syndicates. The Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Bali, I Gusti Ketut Budiartha, said that every year many foreign citizens were caught by the authorities due to trafficking drugs to the Island of the Gods. In the year 2012, a total of 25 foreign citizens were arrested. Then, it decreased to 11 foreigners in 2013. Meanwhile, as of May 2014, according to him, 4 foreigners had been arrested due to drugs.

Senior security official Tharit Pengdit warned that if the anti-government movement carries out an attempt to appoint an unelected prime minister, it would ignite anger from government supporters that “could definitely spread to clashes and could eventually lead to a civil war.” The comment echoed one made a day earlier by the head of the pro-government Red Shirt movement.

“It is therefore necessary for CAPO to escalate law enforcement to a stricter level, to solve problems that will arise in the near future,” said Tharit, an executive for the government’s security Center of Administration for Peace and Order. “We are asking people to stay away from the protesters and ... to avoid the protest sites for their own safe-ty.” He did not specify how or where security would be tightened.

Two people were injured late Saturday when unknown assailants fired two grenades at Government House, the prime minister’s office compound, where anti-government protesters were camped, said police

Col. Kamthorn Auicharoen. Offi-cials vacated the compound months ago due to the protests launched against Yingluck in November.

It was the latest in a series of gre-nade attacks and drive-by shootings that have left hundreds of people injured since Thailand’s political crisis escalated in November. Both sides accuse the other of orchestrat-ing the violence.

Anti-government protesters were emboldened by the Constitutional Court’s ruling Wednesday to dismiss Yingluck for nepotism, accomplish-ing what months of anti-government protests supported by the urban elite and royalists have failed to achieve. On Friday, the protesters ramped up their efforts to bring down what remains of Yingluck’s administration by laying siege to television sta-tions, surrounding state offices and demanding lawmakers help them install a non-elected prime minister to rule the country.

Yingluck’s Cabinet has named deputy premier Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan as acting prime

minister, but the leader of the anti-government protest movement, Suthep Thaugsuban, said Saturday that Niwattumrong “doesn’t hold the authority and status to be the head of the government.”

Suthep has asked the Senate to “quickly consult the presidents of the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Administrative Court and the Election Commission

to work to appoint the new prime minister immediately.” The Senate said it would hold an informal meet-ing Monday to discuss the crisis.

The anti-government protesters called Friday for a “final push” to oust the entire Cabinet and set up an unelected “people’s council” that they say would implement still-undefined reforms to combat corruption and fight money politics.

They oppose elections scheduled for July, which the current ruling party would likely win.

Thailand’s long-running po-litical crisis began in 2006 when Yingluck’s brother, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, was toppled by a military coup after being accused of corruption, abuse of power and disrespect for King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

LAGOS, Nigeria — The U.N. Security Council must impose sanctions on the Islamic extremists that abducted more than 300 schoolgirls, a lead-ing Nigerian rights group said Sunday, adding that expressions of concern and condemnation are not enough.

The call comes as more experts are expected in Nigeria to help in the search, including U.S. hostage negotiators. Nigeria’s government belatedly accepted offers of help last week from the United States, Britain, France, China and Spain amid mounting national and international outrage at its failure to rescue 276 girls abducted from a northeastern school on April 15. Fifty-three escaped. The militants are threatening to sell the girls into slavery.

“The future of these missing schoolgirls hangs in a balance. The council should not leave them to fend for themselves,” executive director Adetokunbo Mumuni of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project said in a statement. “But it is not enough for the Council to express concern ... It is now time for the council to act decisively against the Boko Haram. The cost of inaction is simply too high to contemplate.” He said targeted sanctions would send a strong message.

The United States already has designated Boko Haram a foreign terrorist organization, as has the European Union, making it illegal to contribute to the group. And Washington last year put a $7 million ransom on the head of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, who said in a video last week that he will sell the girls into slavery.

Thailand to tighten security as crisis deepens Associated Press

BANGKOK — Thailand’s caretaker government said Sunday that it would increase security to prevent clashes that could arise between the two sides in an escalating political crisis, and warned people to stay away from protest sites for their own safety. The announcement was broadcast on television as pro-government and anti-government protesters held competing rallies in Bangkok over the weekend. The two groups were several kilometers (miles) apart, but concerns of violence have risen following a court’s ouster of Prime Minister Yin-gluck Shinawatra last week.

NEW YORK - Goldman Sachs Friday said that regulators have initiated probes into its interna-tional hiring practices and its high-speed trading operations.

Goldman said the hiring probe was tied to the bank’s compli-ance with the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which bars firms from bribing foreign officials. The disclosure, contained in a quarterly securities filing, is the latest indica-

tion regulators have expanded their investigation of whether JPMorgan Chase and other big banks em-ployed the sons and daughters of prominent foreign officials to win business in China and elsewhere.

The query on Goldman’s high-

speed trading operation comes as the Department of Justice and oth-ers step up scrutiny of whether the tech-fueled practice enables illegal insider trading. The bank said it is cooperating with “all such regula-tory investigations and reviews.”

Goldman also said it is a de-fendant in a class-action suit filed in April 2014 that alleges that it and other defendants engaged in market manipulation and insider trading with their high-frequency trading.

The survey of Britain’s super-rich compiled for the Sunday Times newspaper is likely to prompt debate in a country where many still struggle financially and where food banks are a fact of life, despite economic growth recently returning to levels not seen since the 2008 financial crash.

London is home to 72 of Brit-ain’s 104 sterling billionaires, well ahead of Moscow in second place with 48 people worth the equivalent

of 1 billion pounds or more. New York is in third place with 43 bil-lionaires, San Francisco in fourth place with 42, Los Angeles next with 38 and Hong Kong in sixth place with 34.

Indian-born brothers Sri and Gopi Hinduja top the British list with a fortune of 11.9 billion pounds (14.6 billion euros, $20.1 billion), amassed through the family-owned Hinduja Group, which has interests

in oil, banking, the automotive in-dustry, property and the media.

The pair nudged last year’s top of the billionaire list, Alisher Usmanov, to second place. The Uzbekistan-born Russian’s fortune has been hit by the fall in value of the rouble and Russian stock prices due to the Ukraine crisis.

Others in the top 25 include Ukrainian-born internet, chemicals and music industry investor Len Blavatnik in fourth place, property magnate the Duke of Westminster, Gerald Grosvenor, in tenth place, and Saudi-born Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber and his family, known for their hotel and resort investments,

in thirteenth place. This year is the first year the

minimum wealth of Britain’s 50 richest people has topped 1.5 billion pounds. Only 700 million pounds was needed to join the exclusive club a decade ago. Britain’s 104 billionaires have a total wealth of 301.13 billion pounds, compared to 88 a year ago with a combined worth of 245.66 billion pounds.

The combined wealth of Britain’s super-rich is now well ahead of pre-recession levels of 2008, which then totalled 201.99 billion pounds. On Friday independent thinktank the National Institute of Economic and Social Research said British

per-capita gross domestic product - often used to indicate a population’s average wealth - was “well below” the pre-2008 peak, and unlikely to exceed it before 2017.

The Trussell Trust, Britain’s largest food bank network, said the number of people that had ap-proached them for emergency food had risen 163 percent in the year to the end of March to just over 913,000 people.

The group labelled the figure “shocking”, particularly as it does not include those helped by other food providers or the large number of people too ashamed to seek help and who cope by eating less food.

TABANAN - Tabanan Regency retains some unique temple heritages. One of them is the Batu Panes Tem-ple located at Mengesta customary village, Penebel. The temple situated amidst the rice field has some unique-ness compared to other temples. The most bizarre is the entrance to the temple located in the southwest. Reputedly, it is a symbol of prosperity and believed to have a capability of treating various diseases.

Another unique nature is the temple has no compound walls, including the split gates as the main entrance. Even, temple is actually surrounded by a small lake that never dries up all the year round. The lake is overgrown by thousands of beautiful lotuses appearing naturally.

It is unknown for sure about the origin of the temple. Based on folklore, the temple has something

to do with the Batukaru Temple and the Kingdom of Tabanan. It is functioned as the source of pros-perity by farmers. On that account, the venerators of the Batu Panes Temple are all farmers.

The Chief of Belulang custom-ary village, Ketut Suardisa, said that based on the information from his predecessors the Batu Panes Temple was established when the Tabanan Kingdom was hit by drought. Then, the king and royal officials meditated at the location now known as Batu Panes Temple. Their meditation was fruitless. Later, the king went to Batulum-bung Temple for another medita-tion and much water then flowed now known as Yeh Ho River. “Ac-cording to him, the story is found in the Padma Cangah chronicle,” said Suardisa. The story mentioned if the temple was supported by the Kompyang Palace of Tabanan until today.

The Batu Panes Temple is be-lieved as sanctum used to venerate Lord Shiva with his manifestation as Brahma. Therefore, it results in the heat. No wonder, a hot spring is found near the temple and sancti-fied by local people up to these days. The temple is also made a place to ask for the source of life and cure various diseases. Origi-nally, the temple was a lingam of Lord Shiva inscribed with ancient scripts. Then, it was made a shrine in 1970. At that time, the lingam of Shiva was once read. However, no one could translate them.

The temple is equipped with a number of shrines including the Penyacah Temple, Pengungangan Puseh Batuaya Temple with ancient yoni, Batur Sari Temple in the east, Dalem Kahyangan in the south and Taman Beji with hot spring in the southwest. Especially in the innermost courtyard lie a number of shrines such as representative

shrine of Batukaru Temple, Keri-nan, main shrine (Ratu Wayan), Sedahan Temple, representative of Pucak Petali and Ratu Nyoman in the form of Padmasana.

Pujawali or anniversary of the Batu Panes Temple falls on Buda (Wednesday) Kliwon Wuku Gumbreg. Uniquely, when it falls on dark moon or full moon, the procession should be filled with pedudusan alit and melasti (purifi-catory rite for ritual paraphernalia and effigy) to whitewater of Baba-han. This ritual usually falls every 10 times of anniversary.

As the temple belonging to subak members (farmers), they routinely present the offering and once a year they present an-nual oblation or chips. In 2007, a discrepancy occurred where the supporting devotees agreed to hold a customary meeting for changing the position of the entrance into the temple from the southwest to the

center. When organizing a meeting in the wantilan hall of the temple, all the customary villagers were in trance and prohibited to move the entrance of the temple.

According to Suardisa, based on the research on the Ganesh ef-figy in the Puseh Belulang Temple, the Batu Panes was estimated to originate from 1400 BC. It is based on the materials of the ef-figy and temple buildings of Puseh Belulang that do not apply multi-tiered meru shrine as commonly found in Bali. “It is only an esti-mate because there has not been a concrete study,” he said. Other than sanctum, location of the Batu Panes Temple has also become a water attraction. Visitors usually enjoy the hot spring believed to have the efficacy to cure some ill-nesses. Similarly, location around the temple is also quite beautiful along with the overlay of rice ter-races. (BTN/kmb)

The making of photo and frame craft is prepared mostly from natural materials such as cardboard, banana sheath, hibiscus leaves and white leadtree fruits. The process of making the photo album and frame is quite difficult and requires precision in order to produce high-quality handicraft. A crafter, Nyoman Redita Putra, said on Saturday (May 10) the type of handicrafts made from banana sheaths was still in demand in overseas markets such as Europe, California to Jamaica.

Apart from the human resources, his party also found difficulty to get raw material because the price increased every week. A total of 10,000 pieces of handicraft product were worked on per month to fulfill the demand of the European market. The sales turnover reached millions of rupiahs each month. Various types of handicraft product like the photo album and photo frame had different size. The large size was sold for IDR 20,000 per piece, medium size for IDR 15,000 and small size for IDR 8,000. The in-crease of the order from overseas market was not in line with the wage received by the crafters.

“Now, the photo album and frame crafts have been left behind by the Ambengan villag-ers, while in the past almost all students to get involved in this work. It happens because the wage paid to workers is not appropriate with the desired amount. Some crafters have shifted to clove pickers,” he said. (kmb34)

Crafters start switching profession to clove pickersBali Post

SINGARAJA - Residents of Ambengan village, Sukasada subdistrict, have a unique way of managing the banana sheath craft materials in the region. One of the most unique crafts having been involved since 1997 is the making of photo albums and photo frames. The making of albums and frames other than being source of income also draws enough consumer demand in the Euro-pean market. But seeing the existing potential, not all people can grab the market opportunities. As a result, the craft works start to be left due to minimal worker wage.

The country’s authoritarian lead-ers keep a very tight grip on public gatherings for fear they could at-tract anti-government protesters.

This time, they appeared to give in to public anger that also provided them with the opportunity to register their own indignation at Beijing.

Other protests, including one drawing more than 1,000 people in Ho Chi Minh City, took place in other locations around the coun-try. For the first time, they were reported on enthusiastically by the state media.

The government has in the past forcibly broken up anti-China protests and arrested their leaders, many of whom are also campaign-ing for greater political freedoms and human rights.

“We are infuriated by the Chi-nese actions,” said Nguyen Xuan Hien, a lawyer who printed his own placard reading “Get Real. Imperi-alism is so 19th century.”

“We have come to so that the Chinese people can understand our anger,” he said.

Vietnam’s government immedi-ately protested the deployment of the oil rig on May 1, and dispatched a flotilla that was unable to break through a circle of more than 50 Chinese vessels protecting the fa-cility. The Vietnamese coast guard released video of Chinese vessels ramming and firing water cannons at Vietnamese ships.

The latest confrontation in the disputed Paracel Islands, which China occupied from U.S.-backed South Vietnam in 1974, has raised

fears that tensions could escalate. Vietnam says the islands fall within its continental shelf and a 200-nau-tical-mile exclusive economic zone. China claims sovereignty over the area and most of the South China Sea — a position that has brought Beijing in confrontation with other claimants, including the Philippines and Malaysia.

The protest Sunday was the larg-est since 2011, when a Chinese ves-sel cut seismic survey cables lead-ing to a Vietnamese oil exploration ship. Vietnam sanctioned protests for a few weeks, but then broke them up after they became a forum of anti-government sentiment.

In the past, journalists covering protests had been harassed and sometimes beaten and protesters bundled into vans.

Associated Press Writer BEIJING — Heavy rain caused a retaining wall to collapse at a recy-

cling plant in the eastern Chinese city of Qingdao on Sunday, killing 18 people, state media reported.

The wall that collapsed crushed a house for workers in which 40 people were gathered, the Qingdao government information office said.

The wall collapsed due to waterlogging after a rainstorm, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. It said 18 people were killed and three others were injured. Authorities were investigating the collapse.

China’s eastern coastal and southern regions have been drenched by heavy rains in recent days. Two other deaths in Hunan province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region were linked to the rains as flood-ing and landslides hit swaths of the country.

PAGE, Arizona — A small plane carrying French tourists crashed while landing in windy conditions Saturday at an airport in northern Arizona, killing one person and leaving another hospitalized, authorities said.

The single-engine plane with a pilot and the six tourists hit the ground and toppled over near the airport runway in Page, the center of a tourist area about 200 miles (322 kilometers) north of Phoenix, Page Police Capt. Ray Varner said. “The plane hit the sand and flipped over upside down,” Varner told The Associated Press.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said the Cessna 207 crashed 400 feet to 500 feet (120 to 150 meters) short of the tarmac. Varner said one passenger died after being rushed to a hospital, while another was hospitalized in apparent stable condition.

He said four others received hospital treatment for minor injuries and were released, while the seventh person was unhurt. The pilot was among the injured. The aircraft was on a sightseeing tour when the ac-cident occurred, Varner said.

Both the captain and the FAA website said the aircraft’s registered owner is American Aviation Inc. of Salt Lake City. A person answering the phone there late Saturday said they didn’t have any information.

Varner said that the hometowns of the passengers was still being determined but at least one of them was from the French city of Le Havre. Both Gregor and Varner said the cause of the crash was being investigated.AP Photo/Chris Brummitt

JAKARTA - Indonesia’s vice president testified Friday at the trial of a former official accused over a controversial bank bailout, renewing attention on a case that rocked the government just weeks before elections.

Prosecutors allege that the 6.76 trillion rupiah ($590 mil-lion) used to bail out Bank Cen-tury in 2008 was far too high,

and that some of the money was siphoned off by well-connected depositors.

There have been claims that some was redirected to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s party, and Vice President Bo-ediono, who was central bank governor at the time, has also been implicated for authorising the move.

The president vehemently denies any wrongdoing over the

bailout of the bank, which has been renamed Bank Mutiara.

The trial of then central bank deputy governor, Budi Mulya, charged with malfeasance over the bailout, comes ahead of July presidential elections, with Yud-hoyono’s party already deeply unpopular and struggling to find a successor.

His ruling Democratic Party saw its support fall by half to around 10 percent at legislative

elections last month.Giving evidence as a prosecu-

tion witness Friday, Boediono defended the decision to bail out the lender, taken at the onset of the financial crisis, saying the situation had been one of “dire emergency”.

“It seemed that at the time Bank Century would collapse and there would be a domino effect on other banks,” he said.

Boediono said the decision

was taken because there were fears of a a repeat of the Asian financial crisis in the late 1990s, which devastated the Indonesian economy and precipitated the downfall of long-ruling dictator Suharto.

Mulya’s indictment also al-leges that the vice president had a hand in committing the crime although anti-corruption authori-ties have not named him a suspect over the case.

Chairman of Electoral Com-mission Husni Kamil Manik announced that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle of former President Megawati Sukarnoputri garnered nearly 19 percent of the vote in the April 9 election for the 560-seat House of Representatives.

Trailing second was Golkar Party with nearly 15 percent followed by the Great Indonesia Movement Party, which pulled almost 12 percent. The ruling Democratic Party of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono gar-nered 10 percent to place fourth.

The victory gave momentum to Jakarta Gov. Joko Widodo, who was picked by Megawati to run in the July 9 presidential election, where Yudhoyono, whose party has been ensnared in a spate of high-profile corruption scandals, is constitutionally barred from seeking a third term.

Widodo, known affectionately as Jokowi, was the mayor of Cen-tral Java town of Solo before being elected last year to govern the Indonesian capital. He is so far the only candidate to have secured a ticket for the election under a coalition between PDI-P and the newly-established Na-sional Demokrat, which gathered nearly seven percent.

Parties need to secure 20 per-cent of the seats in the House of Representatives or 25 percent of the overall vote to nominate a candidate. Otherwise, a coalition must be formed with one or more parties.

Distribution of seats for 10 political parties in the Parlia-ment will be announced May 18, the same day the registration is opened for presidential candi-dates.

Some 200,000 candidates from 12 parties were vying for nearly 20,000 slots in legislative elec-tions, including 6,607 competing for the 560-seat House and 945 for regional representatives or the Senate. The rest were com-peting for provincial and local councils.

Support JokowiThe Nation Awakening Party

(PKB) has officially decided to coalesce with the Indonesia Dem-ocratic Party Struggle (PDIP) to support Jokowi in the presidential election on July 9.

The decision was made at a joint meeting of the party’s executive and advisory boards at Tarbiyantunnasyiin Islamic

boarding school in Pacung Gow-ang, Jombang, East Java, on Saturday.

“The decision was taken for the benefit of the nation and the people’s welfare,” the party’s general chairman, Muhaimin Iskandar, said.

He noted that PKB believes Jokowi would be able to preserve the integrity of the Unitary State of Indonesia (NKRI), the imple-

mentation of “ahlussunnah wal-jamaah” Islamic teachings and improve the people’s welfare.

He said PKB wishes to build a strong, respectful, effective and efficient government for the development of the country and improve the welfare of the people, along with Jokowi and PDIP.

“We are aware that good and sincere cooperation among na-

tional components would be needed to improve conditions in Indonesia,” he said.

Muhaimin hoped the coop-eration between PKB and PDIP would help support efforts to realize the ideals of the coun-try’s founders and cooperation between the leaders and political elites, as well as cadres of PKB and PDIP, which had been estab-lished many years ago.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Portland, which pulled within eight points in the third quarter but couldn’t get any closer. The Blazers were hurt by 15 turnovers and only six points from their bench. No NBA team has come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a seven-game series, suggesting San Antonio is bound for a Western Conference decider against either Oklahoma City or the Los Angeles Clippers. The Thunder leads that series 2-1.

The Blazers took a brief 13-12 lead midway through the first quar-ter but the Spurs surged to score 16 of the next 20 points to take a grip on the contest. Parker’s back-to-back 3-pointers gave the Spurs a 58-35 late first-half lead and they went into the break ahead 60-40.Portland rallied to get the deficit back to manageable proportions at 68-60, but the Spurs kept the Blazers from coming any closer and led 83-69 going into the fourth, and they were not troubled in the last. The Spurs

have a 3-2 series advantage over Portland in the playoffs, sweeping the previous meeting in the 1999 conference finals. The teams split the regular-season series 2-2.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn secured the win it badly needed by beating Miami 104-90, inflicting a first de-feat on the Heat in this postseason and cutting the series deficit to 2-1. Joe Johnson scored 19 points and Andray Blatche had career playoff highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Nets.

Brooklyn, which swept Miami in the regular season, can tie the series with another home-court vic-tory on Monday. Miami’s LeBron James scored 16 points in the first quarter but only two baskets for the rest of the game. He finished with 28 points.

The Heat had not even faced a fourth-quarter deficit in these playoffs and won their previous four games by double digits, but the Nets shook off the Heat’s sizzling start, then held them to 33 points

over the middle two quarters to take control.

Paul Pierce had 14 points while Mirza Teletovic and Shaun Livings-ton each scored 12 points for the Nets in their first home postseason victory ever against the Heat. Tele-tovic made four of Brooklyn’s 15 3-pointers.

Brooklyn’s Deron Williams, 0 for 9 in Game 2, shot just 3 for 11 but finished with nine points and 11 assists. Kevin Garnett, just 2 for 10 for four total points in Miami, shot 5 of 6 for 10 points and seven rebounds.

Miami’s Dwyane Wade scored 20 points and James grabbed eight rebounds, but his night fell well short of what it could have been after his ferocious first quarter.

He made a free throw to bring Miami to 59-56 in the third quar-ter, but Teletovic made a 3-pointer, followed by baskets by Blatche, Johnson and Livingston to make it 68-56. Teletovic made two more 3s and Williams knocked down an-other before the end of the quarter, which ended with the Nets ahead 77-63. Teletovic opened the fourth with another 3, and Alan Anderson hit a pair later in the period while also getting in a skirmish with Ray Allen that led to double technical fouls. The Nets held Allen to two baskets after he hurt them in both games in Miami.

MADRID - Maria Sharapova recovered from a second-set wobble to dispatch third seed Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1 6-4 on Saturday and set up a Madrid Open final clash against rising talent Simona Halep. Sharapova, a former world number one now ranked ninth who has had a poor year by her high standards, has shown glimpses of her dominant best on the clay in the Spanish capital this week with the French Open starting in Paris later this month.

Pole Radwanska, the world number three, struggled to cope with the Russian’s powerful ground strokes as Sharapova, runner-up to Serena Williams in Madrid last year, took a step closer to a 31st career title. After comfortably winning the opening set and racing into a 3-0 lead in the second, Sharapova had to deal with a spirited Radwanska fight-back when she won four games in a row before prevailing to secure a meeting with Halep, the fourth seed.

The 22-year-old Romanian fought back from a set down to oust fifth-seeded Czech Petra Kvi-tova 6-7(4) 6-3 6-2. Sharapova’s chances of going one better than 2013 were boosted when Wil-liams, the Madrid champion the past two years, withdrew on Fri-

day with a thigh injury.“I’ve done a really good job of

transitioning from the hard to the clay and really improving physi-cally and recovering well from match to match,” Sharapova told a news conference. “I really chal-lenge myself to improve on clay courts because that was never my favorite surface in the beginning of my career,” added the 27-year-old, French Open champion in 2012.

“I feel really good physically. I put in a lot of matches in the last few weeks but that’s what I want. “I missed four or five months of the season last year (with a shoul-der injury) and I wanted to come in to this year and play as many matches as I can.”

By reaching the final, Halep has already achieved her best result at a WTA premier event as she chases an eighth career title. A girls singles champion at the French Open in 2008, she also looks to be hitting form on clay ahead of claycourt major.

“I’m very excited that I can play my biggest final tomorrow, I hope that my emotions will be down and I can play,” Halep told a news conference. “It was a very tough match today, I couldn’t believe that I came back again. “Tomorrow I expect another very tough match. Maria is a champion and she knows how to manage the finals.”

PORTLAND, Oregon — San Antonio put one foot into the NBA Western Conference finals with a 118-103 win at Portland on Saturday to take a 3-0 lead in their series, while Brooklyn avoided slipping to the same deficit by defeating Miami. Tony Parker scored 29 points for the Spurs, who built a big early lead — just as they had in the opening two games of the series — by going 23 points up on the Trail Blazers in the first half, and controlled the game from there.

MUNICH — Bayern Munich finally celebrated winning its 24th German championship on Saturday after the last Bundesliga game of the season. Club captain Philipp Lahm lifted the championship shield to kick off the party in a sea of red and white confetti, after Claudio Pizarro’s injury time strike secured a 1-0 win over Stuttgart.

The traditional wheat-beer showers followed with Pep Guardiola, in particular, singled out for attention by his jubilant players. The former Barcelona coach helped Bayern defend its title with a record seven games to spare in his first season in charge. The effects of the beer showers took their toll on Guardiola when he dropped the championship shield. “It’s very nice but it’s heavy,” he said, referring to the 11-kilo trophy.

Around 15,000 fans later greeted the side at Marienplatz in the city center for the presentation of the league trophy from the town hall balcony, following traditional title celebrations.

Wearing Bavarian leather trousers like his players, Guardiola told enthusiastic supporters, “I am very proud of this team and we are very proud of you. I love you. I’m a Muenchener (person from Munich). Mia san mia!” The party was expected to last long into the night.

“You have to celebrate victories and titles,” said Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer, who didn’t want to set any limits, despite Bayern’s Ger-man Cup final clash with Borussia Dortmund in Berlin next Saturday.

SAO PAULO — Brazilian or-ganizers have held test events at two of the problematic World Cup stadiums, including the one host-ing the tournament’s opening game next month in Sao Paulo. Nearly 20,000 people attended Saturday’s exhibition between past and present Corinthians players at the Itaquerao stadium, which remains under con-struction and will not hold a full test event until next weekend.

In the southern city of Porto Alegre, about 35,000 Internacional fans saw their team beat Atletico Paranaense 2-1 in a Brazilian league match at the Beira-Rio Stadium. It was the last test event at the venue hosting five World Cup matches.

FIFA Secretary General Jerome

Valcke said recently the Itaquerao and the Beira-Rio were among the stadi-ums still causing concern, along with the Arena da Baixada in the southern city of Curitiba.

The Arena Pantanal in the wetlands city of Cuiaba, where a constructor worker died last week, also is yet to be finished with just a month before the World Cup opener between Brazil and Croatia on June 12. The Beira-Rio has already been officially inaugurated, but the construction of temporary structures needed for the tournament has been delayed. The exhibition at the Itaquerao took place as workers con-tinued to install the 20,000 temporary seats needed for the opener.

“For a first event, it was very good,” said former Corinthians presi-dent Andres Sanchez, who is in charge of the stadium’s construction. “We had

some problems, but we will continue to make adjustments. For the World Cup it will all be 100 percent ready.”

Sanchez cited logistics problems, and fans reported difficulties accessing the Internet from their mobile phones from inside the stadium. There was also a lot of unfinished work in some areas, including the restrooms, and the media faced difficulties working from inside the venue. Former Corinthians and Brazil star midfielder Rivelino scored the venue’s first goal by con-verting a penalty.

The official FIFA test at the site is set for May 18; a Brazilian league match between Corinthians and Figueirense. Only 50,000 fans will be allowed to attend even though the venue will hold nearly 70,000 for the six matches it will host during the World Cup.

Reuters The paucity of English players at

champions-in-waiting Manchester City and Premier League rivals Chel-sea is “pretty depressing”, according to Football Association (FA) chair-man Greg Dyke. Dyke is pushing an FA commission proposal to tighten visa requirements on foreign players while having Premier League clubs introduce B teams in lower divisions in a bid to improve the England na-tional side.

While supported by the English players’ association, the proposal has drawn widespread criticism from the leagues, who say it would damage their competitions. “It’s been a great league this year,” Dyke told British media on Saturday.

“I think the Premiership has been

brilliant. But I think there are probably two England players playing at City and two or three at Chelsea - although there won’t be that many next year - that’s pretty depressing. “I think the figures that we produced, that the top four clubs last year averaged 29 per-cent English players starting last year, down to 23 percent this year, I think we should be worried about that.”

Top of the table City have marched to the brink of their second Premier League title in three seasons with only two England players in Joe Hart and James Milner playing regularly. Third-placed Chelsea can boast three capped England players making regu-lar appearances in John Terry, Gary Cahill and Frank Lampard.

Dyke said Premier League club owners were wondering why they would throw money into academies

to develop home-grown talent when so few locals were breaking into first teams.

“What do they care about? A lot of them, because they’re spending a lot of money on academy programmes, are saying: ‘But hang on, what am I getting back for this?’” he said.

“When Chelsea have not had a player out of their academy and into their first team consistently since John Terry you wonder, well, hang on, this is probably the most expensive academy in Britain.

“I always love England because it’s so opposed to any change,” he added. “And yet you have to say: ‘Well, hang on, guys. We might have the best league in the world but we haven’t got the best development programme in the world by any means.’”

The FA commission’s plan in-

cludes the creation of a new ‘League Three’ to be initially made up of 10 Premier League B teams and 10 sides from the cream of minor league football, with clubs promoted and rel-egated between the tiers. The plan is based on the structure of Spanish and German football, where younger players play competitively on a regular basis.

Dyke said as well as City, Manchester United, Stoke City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, “four or five” other clubs were in favour of the plan.

MADRID — With a Europa league berth already secured, Villarreal rolled to a 4-0 win over 10-man Rayo Val-lecano in its last home game of the Spanish league on Saturday.

Ikechuwku Uche and Bruno Soria-no scored in the first half and Jonathan Pereira struck in the 55th minute in the romp at El Madrigal Stadium.

Rayo was left with 10 men when Anaitz Arbilla earned a direct red card for fouling Moi Gomez who had only the goalkeeper to beat in the 63rd.

Jaume Costa capped the demolition a minute later.

Villarreal is in seventh place, two points behind Sociedad. If Villarreal finishes above Sociedad it will avoid a playoff to reach the Europa League group phase.

Also, Levante beat Valencia 2-0 to sit one round away from finishing above its city rival for the first time in history.

Angel Rodriguez opened in the 70th before Andreas Ivanschitz added the second in the 81st and the hosts hung on despite Pedro Lopez’s red

card with two minutes remaining. Levante is eighth, two points above Valencia.

A moment of silence was observed at both stadiums before kickoff for the death of five members of a youth football team in a traffic accident on Friday.

Atletico Madrid could be crowned league champion with a victory against Malaga on Sunday if Barcelona fails to win at Elche. If not, the league title would be decided in the final round when Barcelona hosts Atletico at Camp Nou.

Two other top presidential con-tenders include business tycoon Aburizal Bakrie of Golkar and former general Prabowo Subianto of Gerindra.

(kmb34)

NEGARA - Execution of the port breakwater and anchoring pond of the Nusantara Fishing Port (PPN) at Pengambengan is accused to be useless. As the fact, the anchoring pond remains shallow so it is dif-ficult for large vessels to enter or exit the fishing port.

(kmb32)

Since then, Bali had gone through three stages of mass vaccinations of dogs, monkeys and cats, all of which are believed to be rabies carriers.

tor, PT Angkasa Pura I, is paying special attention to flight schedules following the MERS outbreak in the Middle East region.

(kmb32)

“I expect tour guides, hotels and restaurants must learn to monitor visitors to prevent the possibility of the virus spreading,” said Mari.

Minister Mari explained that one of the efforts is to be more proactive with guests who are coming from the Middle East.

Tour guides in Bali are being asked to immediately report to medical officers if they observe

guests showing any symptoms of MERS-CoV so they can be referred to a hospital for treatment.

“Potential MERS-CoV patients must be medically treated immedi-ately in a hospital before the disease can be transmitted from person to person,” Mari added.

Meanwhile, health officials at Ngurah Rai Airport Bali are now installing thermal scanners to monitor arriving travelers body temperatures.

The airport’s health officers will

quarantine any travelers found with MERS-CoV symptoms in a special quarantine area at the arrival gate of the international airport.

The MERS-CoV disease in the Middle East has raised interna-tional alarm in recent weeks, with a surge in infections and deaths in Saudi Arabia. There is currently no cure or vaccine for MERS-CoV, a severe respiratory disease which causes coughing, fever, shortness of breath, and can lead to pneumonia and kidney failure.
