Letter from the President
Well here we are in March. By the time you
receive this newsletter the Super Cruise Car Show
will have come and gone. I am hoping we will have
a good showing of British cars. The musical
“Tommy” was at the Dore Theater.
Our March Natter ‘n Noggin dinner was held at La
Costa Mariscos at the Ice House on March 10.
Because of the rain and other factors that day the
turnout of club members was light. It was a nice
evening with little crowd and noise. We were able
to celebrate birthdays for Connie Ressigue and
myself. Barbara brought cupcakes but you all
missed out on those. Jeff Johnson, Linda Freemen
where there also.
The next meeting is March 26. I hope many of you
can come as we will be having further discussion
regarding becoming a non-profit organization. The
cost will be minimal and the benefits will be great
including funding raising, insurance and bank
account. So come out and share your thoughts.
Meetings are held at Loren’s Downtown Café
starting at 7:00. Come earlier and order dinner.
And check out the website and let me know what
your think. bakersfieldbritishcarclub.com
Cheers and Safety Fast, your Club President,
Geoff Kimler
May I also remind you your club dues are due? You can send in your form any time to Connie Resseguie. Please make check out to her. Her address is on form below. Or bring to a meeting! PLEASE GET YOUR CAR READY
For the 2020 Driving Season and the Annual Spring
Coastal Tour
NOW is the best time to inspect your car and get it
ready for the road before the first driving event of
the season. Many times, by the side of the road, we
have seen the faithful members of this club spring
from their cars, like the start at Le Mans, to help a
fellow tour member who signaled trouble and had to
pull over. Their caring and generous spirit is a real
demonstration of the “Mark of Friendship” that MG
is known for all over the world. Without hesitation,
they will rush toward the disabled car already

thinking what the problem could be and already
formulating the solution. It is amazing to see them
gather around the raised bonnet, like an emergency
medical triage team. These heroes ascertain the
problem and quickly devise the appropriate fix,
often by producing from their own cars, as if by
magic, just the perfect item needed to achieve repair.
It makes us very proud of these wonderful unselfish
club members. Please do not risk them coming to
your rescue only to find the problem was directly
caused by deferred maintenance. Take time now to
prepare your car for the road. A quick review of this
list may help you check that your car is ready.
Good idea to check all the standard safety items
such as; head lights, break lights, taillights, (the car
behind you will appreciate that!) wipers, horn, and
tires. Look under the hood for worn out belts or
frayed wires. Check / top off the fluids. With a little
advance preparation, you can relax and enjoy the
drive to the coast. · Oil – Is it time for an oil change?
· Tune UP - when was the last one?
· Grease, oil, and Lubricate – how long has it been?
· Battery – How old is it? - Check alternator output,
13.5-14.5 volts
· Tires – check the pressure and look for wear and
problems – do not forget the spare.
· Windshield wipers – Do you need new ones? Clean
windscreen.
· Belts: inspect the condition of them all - fan belt too.
· Brakes: - and parking brake.
· Fluids: Top them all off: windshield washer, coolant,
brake, transmission, and dashpot
· Light: headlights, taillights, back up lights, BRAKE
LIGHTS! (The car behind you, will Thank You!)
· Horn: (does it work as well as it ever did)
Pack your travel tool kit – just in case!

It would be nice to see more of you at the monthly meetings. It can be fun listening to more of your stories and progress on your cars. With more folks attending we could plan to have speakers and presentations, This next meeting we will be talking on how best to grow the cub and increase participation. Dave Wolin has created the beginnings of a website for us and I would like your opinions about it.

More tips from the Texas MG Register: Door Seals & Pop Rivets
When installing the door glass seals on my MGB,
Moss part numbers 282-380 & 390, I was frustrated
when trying to install the pop rivets which anchor
the seal to the door frame. The rivets would not
always cooperate in my attempts to make them line
up with the holes through the seal and into the
corresponding hole in the door frame. To make
matters worse, the rivet wouldn’t always fully seat
through the two holes completely, even when I had
the holes lined up. To solve the problem, I used a
straight piece (10 inches) of small diameter brake
tubing to slide over the pop rivet. Using the tubing
as leverage, I could manipulate and force the rivet
through each hole, and then push against the flange
of the rivet to seat it fully against the seal. Then, I
just slid off the brake-tubing, inserted my pop rivet
gun onto the waiting rivet and locked it on.
Installation was quick and easy! Thanks to our
friends at the eChatter; Volume #35, Issue #2.
Aligning Doors, Bonnets and Boots by Kelly
Corkill
I just purchased a slightly used 1957 MGA and one
of the problems with the car was that the doors and
hood did not close properly. A little lubricant
helped, but still I found that both doors were only
catching on the safety catch and not really latching
at all. A few hard corners and complaints from
passengers pushed it up to the priority list.
Fortunately, I remembered a very old auto body
repair trick. First, I removed the latch post and
checked that the door and hood fit in the opening
properly. Yeah – they did! I then remounted the
latch and post, and put masking tape on the post
surfaces and closed the door. The masking tape
tears where the contacts are made and easily shows
any misalignment. A few spacers, several tape
applications (replace each adjustment) and both
doors and hood now solidly latch
