SPECIALIST EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT Secondary Mental Health Services North Yorkshire

Mental Health Employment Services are available in: Selby; Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale; Harrogate; and Hambleton and Richmondshire

These services are for people with severe and enduring mental health needs. To access the service you need to be receiving a service from the Multi-Disciplinary Mental Health Teams. Referrals to these teams are made by your GP.

Council Tax Reduction You can apply for Council Tax Reduction whether you own your home, rent, are unemployed or working. (gov.uk)

CV (Curriculum Vitae) is a short list of facts about you and your work history, skills, qualifications and experience. A good CV is essential when looking for work and it is worth spending time getting it right so it sells you to an employer. (DWP)

Dismissal is when your employer ends your employment.

Employment Contract All employees have an employment contract with their employer, although it might not be in writing.

Employment Support Allowance (ESA) If you’re ill or disabled, ESA offers you financial support if you are unable to work; personalised help so that you can work if you’re able to. You might be transferred to ESA if you’ve been claiming other benefits like Income Support or Incapacity Benefit. You can apply for ESA if you’re employed, self employed or unemployed. (Gov.uk)

Franchise is a permission given by a person or entity permitting the distribution of goods or services under their trademark, service mark or tradename.

Grievances are concerns, problems or complaints that employees raise with their employer.

Housing Benefit can help you pay your rent if you’re on a low income. How much you get depends on your income and circumstances. You can apply for Housing Benefit whether you’re unemployed or working. (Gov.uk)

Income Tax is a tax on income. Not all income is taxable and you're only taxed on 'taxable income' above a certain level. (HM Revenue & Customs)

Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) is the main benefit you can get if you’re out of work and looking for work.(Gov.uk)

Limited Company -a company whose owners enjoy limited liability for the company's debts and losses.

Minimum Wage The National Minimum Wage (NMW) is the minimum pay per hour almost all workers are entitled to by law. (Gov.uk)

Paid Work Employees must get a pay statement from an employer and be told when and how they will be paid.

Partnership An association of two or more people who run a business enterprise in which profits and losses are shared.

Permitted Work You can do some limited work while claiming ESA or Incapacity benefit. There are rules about what work you can do and how many hours you can work.

Personal Independence Payments (PIP) helps with some of the extra costs caused by long-term ill-health or a disability if you’re aged 16 to 64.

Redundancy is a form of dismissal from your job. It happens when employers need to reduce their workforce. (Gov.uk)

Self-Employment You are probably self-employed if you run your own business and take responsibility for its success or failure.

Sole Trader is where one person owns all the assets of the business and profits and losses are not shared.

Supported Permitted Work (SPW) is work supervised by someone from a local council or a voluntary organisation whose job it is to arrange work for disabled people.

Tax Credits are payments from the government. If you're responsible for at least one child or young person, you may qualify for Child Tax Credit. If you work, but are on a low income, you may qualify for Working Tax Credit. (HMRC)

Universal Credit is a new benefit that has started to replace 6 existing benefits with a single monthly payment. Universal Credit will help you to be better off in work, start a new job or work more hours.

Unpaid work any work such as work experience, where you do not receive any pay.

Vocational qualifications/training will give you the skills and qualifications that employers are looking for.

Voluntary Work is described as an unpaid activity where someone gives their time to help an organisation or an individual who they are not related to. (Volunteering England)

Work Focused Interview (WFI) is an important part of the return to work process for customers claiming ESA and Universal Credit, during which the Employment Service Adviser will discuss the customer's barriers to returning to work and agree a package of support to help them progress and/or move into work. Work Placements give you some work experience to give you a chance to find out more about a career you’re considering.

Online - The internet is a quick and easy place to search for job vacancies. Many companies advertise vacancies on their own websites also try specific job search sites.

Look in local newspapers, trade magazines, shop windows and noticeboards.

Social media is now a popular format for some businesses to recruit staff.
