Income Tax Program The VITA Income Tax Program will be held at both senior centers. Call the Hayward Senior Center at (510) 881-6766 or the Kenneth C. Aitken Senior Center at (510) 881-6738 to schedule an appointment at the end of January. Taxes are prepared by trained volunteers. 5th Saturday Night Dance Saturday, January 31 7:00pm-10:00pm HASC $6/door Ballroom, Swing, Latin and variety music from ballroom dance instructor Ted Rocha. This is a great opportunity to practice your ballroom dance steps, exercise and make new friends!

Winter Dinner & Dance Friday, February 6 5:30pm-10:00pm HASC $17.00 in advance Put on your dancing shoes and dance the night away with the Treble Makers Band! Enjoy a delicious dinner, wonderful music and raffle prizes!

Sunday Big Band Dance & Concert Sunday, February 22 1:00pm-3:30pm HASC $4/door Enjoy the wonderful music! “What’s Up” Big Band will be here for your listening and dancing pleasure!

BIG Spring Flea Market Saturday, March 7 8:00am-1:00pm KASCC FREE Over 55 vendors will be selling everything but the kitchen sink! Come out and find a unique treasure. There will also be a bake sale with homemade goodies and a snack bar serving lunch. Tables go on sale Friday, January 16th at 8:30am. $25.00 resident/ $35.00 non-resident. 2 tables max per person.

5th Sunday Dance with Mary Ann Sunday, March 29 1:00pm-4:00pm HASC $6/door Come and enjoy dancing your favorite dances. Bring a bottle of water, your smiling face and enthusiasm! All ages welcome to this free event. There will be over 55 vendors from the nonprofit, health, and business communities handing out giveaways and answering your questions! Health Screenings, informational seminars and class demonstrations will also take place at the event. Be one of the first 100 people through the door and receive a special gift.

Finding Wellness Classes

Presented by the Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley

6 week series of FREE fitness, nutrition and medication management classes. Topics include fall prevention, increasing your calcium and vitamin D intake, using medication and herbs wisely, benefits of maintaining healthy hydration levels, stress management, pain management and more. Class size is limited to 25 participants, so be sure to reserve your spot early. Kenneth Aitken Senior Center

Ed Ortman’s passion for art was developed at an early age. As a child he learned to silk screen print, paint, draw and make ceramic sculptures. His first full time job was a silk screen printer, later he went to work as a Lithographer. Learn more about his works at an Artist Talk on Tuesday, January 13, 2015.

Hayward Senior Center

Nicole Leming paints in oils and prefers to paint landscapes, cityscapes and still lifes. She loves to play with color and line and finds it challenging to try different subjects and approaches to doing what she loves. Enjoy Nicole’s works through January 13, 2015. Bruce Roberts will exhibit his poetry from January 14-February 10, 2015.

Van Trips and Motor Coach Tours Procedures and Refund Policies:

Please note: Participants taking day van trips should expect to be gone for the duration of the day unless otherwise noted. Day Trips can return after 5pm when the center is closed. Please make sure your ride home is scheduled in advance. Van drivers can not drive you home. Participants must have a way of getting home promptly when we return.

Van Trip Procedures: No one, including Senior Center Supporters, are allowed to sign up before the 1st business day of the month that the Expanding Horizons is released. Participants will be able to sign up for only one trip per Center during the first two weeks of the Expanding Horizons release. Put your name and phone number on the waiting list for other trips you are interested in and we will call you after the first two weeks if we have an opening. You must sign up for your desired trip from the Center that the van departs. Non-residents of the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District must pay an additional non-resident fee of $5.00 per trip.

Van Trip Refund Procedures: No refunds will be issued if less than 24 hours of notification is received for the day trips. All Van Trip cancellations are subject to a $5.00 service charge and may take up to 21 days to process. In cases, where the Senior Center purchases admission tickets on your behalf, and the ticket company has a no refund policy, we will be unable to issue a refund to you.

Motor Coach Refund Procedures: Refunds will be issued only upon the Senior Centers cancellation of a trip or a specific cancellation policy by the Tour Company is in place. If a participant cancels within ten (10) business days of a trip, it will be the responsibility of the said participant to find a replacement or forfeit the refund. All motor coach cancellations made by participants are subject to a $5.00 service charge. Non-residents of the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District must pay an additional fee of $10.00 per coach trip. It is the policy of American Stage Tours to wait no longer than 15 minutes. If a participant is late and the bus has left it is the responsibility of the trip participant to make their own arrangements for the return trip home and it will be at their own cost.
