1ST SUNDAY ROSARY ~ LEGION OF MARY

The Legion of Mary will be praying the Rosary

THIS Sunday August 1 at 10:30 am before the

11 am Mass. We will be praying for our country.

PASTOR COLUMN

The month of August is dedicated to the

Immaculate Heart of Mary. The heart of Mary is

venerated because it the seat of her love for and

union with Her Son, her virtue, and inner life.

Therefore, her heart is a model for every

Christian.

Appearing to the three shepherd children at Fatima in 1917 Mary

said, “'God wishes to establish in the world devotion to My

Immaculate Heart’

Pope Paul VI, on the floor of the Vatican Council at the close of

the third session, renewed publicly the consecration of the

Church and the world to Mary's Immaculate Heart.

When he visited Fatima on May 13, 1967, the same Pope said,

“we exhort all the sons of the Church to renew personally their

consecration to the Immaculate Heart of the Mother of the

Church and to bring alive this most noble act of veneration

through a life ever more in accord with the divine will and in a

spirit of filial service and of devout imitation of their heavenly

Queen."

Pope Benedict XVI reflecting on this devotion said, “The Heart

open to God, purified by contemplation of God, is stronger than

guns and weapons of every kind. The fiat of Mary, the word of

her heart, has changed the history of the world, because it

brought the Saviour into the world—because, thanks to her Yes,

God could become man in our world and remains so for all time.

The Evil One has power in this world, as we see and experience

continually; he has power because our freedom continually lets

itself be led away from God. But since God himself took a human

heart and has thus steered human freedom towards what is

good, the freedom to choose evil no longer has the last word.”

Consider praying this short prayer every day during the month of

August to deepen your trust, love and devotion to Our Lady’s

Immaculate Heart: O Immaculate Heart of Mary, refuge of

sinners, I beg of you by the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of

Jesus, and by the graces God has granted to you since your

Immaculate Conception, the grace of never going astray again.

Mother, keep me, a sinner, constantly bathed in the light of your

Immaculate Heart. Amen.
