The end of the third quarter is upon us and we are almost in the final stretch. The faculty and staff would like to extend a very special thank you to all the PTSA parents who helped make our March luncheon so special. It was a delicious mid-week treat that was greatly appreciated by all! Next week is International Week and we are very excited for International Day. This is a great full day event that allows every student in the building to experience food, customs and cultures from various countries. We always need a tremendous amount of support from parents to help make this day a success. Please visit our sign up genius at the link listed below. Thank you in advance for your support. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f044ba5a82fa57-international1 As the weather gets nicer and the anticipation for spring break builds it is important for us to remind everyone about school-wide expectations. Students must be in dress code everyday unless they have a dress down pass or earned Marvelous Monday. Male students must always have their shirts tucked in and all students are required to have IDs on and visible at all time. ID pictures should never be altered. As you know, the school district changed the cell phone policy last year and as a school our goal is to embrace technology and provide students with appropriate levels of education so that they can use devices responsibly. We understand that technology is an important piece of the educational experience but students are dependent on social media and they do not always understand the boundaries or ramifications that can come with improper use. As a school, we spend time educating students but we understand that it is still not enough. This year we tried a new program with our 8th grade students and conducted same sex lessons on navigating the digital world of social media. The sessions were led by district representatives and detectives from Greenville City Police. Information about the class was sent home in advance and parents had the right to opt out. We believe the lesson was beneficial for the students and we are hoping to expand this program to include both 6th and 7th grade in the future. Classroom teachers and administrators are continuously reminding students about the rules pertaining to cell phones on campus. Here are some important rules that parents can reinforce at home:

1. Cell Phones can be out during morning holding, lunch and bus holding.

2. Students may never video or photograph other students or teachers.

3. Students may NOT post to social media during the school day.

4. Cell phones should NEVER be out in the hallway and this includes headphone use. Students need to

be aware in the hallway and not listening to music or looking at phones.

5. Teachers will post signs that state Phone / No Phone which will indicate whether or not phones are

being used for educational purposes in the classroom that day. A NO PHONE sign indicates that the

cell phone should be off and out of sight.

6. It is illegal to video people and take pictures without permission.

7. Students refusing to put phones away when asked will receive a referral for Refusing to Obey an adult.

Technology can be both a blessing and a curse depending on how it is used. Thank you for reminding your child about the expectations at Beck Academy and continuing to educate them about responsible use in general.

As always, thank you for your support and contributions which make Beck the amazing school that it is!

Week of April 24-28

It’s that time of year again to celebrate the AMAZING staff at Beck. We want to thank them for all their hard work! What better way to pamper our staff than a week of fun, food, and prizes. Staff Appreciation Week will run from Monday, April 24-Friday, April 28 and each day will celebrate the staff.

We are busy planning this fun week and need your help!

To make sure that everyone receives a gift, donations of gift cards (at least a $10 value, please),

or cash/checks (written out to Beck PTSA) are needed.

All donations should be addressed to Kathy Donovan/Staff Appreciation and dropped off at the office

by Friday, April 7.

Volunteers are needed to also provide treats for our staff daily and baked goods are needed.

A Sign-up Genius link will be available soon.

Thanks! Kim Troyer and Susan Shelley
