The Esteemed Leading Knight, John B. Aceves invites you to join the Ocers and their families for the annual Charity Ball and Silent Auction November 14th at our Lodge. Join us in celebrating and giving thanks for another thriving year for our Tucson Lodge #385.

Hors d’oeuvres and our lounge will open at 4:30 PM with dinner at 6:00 PM. This year’s menu will be Prime Rib and Chicken, with xing's and dessert, all for only $25.00. Call the Lodge for reservations (520) 299-5105. Advanced paid reservations are always appreciated. This gives us an opportunity to prepare for this special event.

For your listening pleasures, we will have a DJ to play all your favorite music from the 50’s, 60’s 70’s and much more. The Charity Ball ambiance is black and white attire, but it is your choice as to what you would like to wear. However, bring your dancing shoes and prepare to have a great time. In addition, someone will win one free dinner for the best Blues Brothers black and white attire resemblance.

The Charity Ball is our annual event to gather and share our thanks, our benevolence, amongst Elkdom and our community. Each month in the year we read in the Elks Tale about the Youth Activities; Soccer Shoots, Hoop Shoots, Christmas and Easter Clothe-a- Child events, scholarship programs, Special Olympics events, and much more. We help veterans receive gifts at Christmas, various events, such as trips to the Desert Museum, to favorite shing holes, bowling and invitations to our holiday picnics. Then there is our state AEMP Cherish a Child program, sponsors of the Chair at the Steele Center, Youth Camp, the Elks National Foundation programs and scholarships, and much more. We support all of these events and projects with our time and money through the Chair of Charity all year long.

The Charity Ball is an opportunity to have some fun, support our programs and projects. Please join us in our celebration and let us know when you can volunteer time for your favorite Elks Charity. All volunteers are welcomed and if you cannot make this event, contributions are graciously accepted.

Fraternally,John B. AcevesEsteemed Leading KnightFor The Chair of Charity

VETERANS REPORT NOVEMBER 2015

To inculcate the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to rec-ognize a belief in God; to promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its Members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellow-ship; to perpetuate itself as a fraternal organization, and to provide for its govern-ment, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America will serve the people and communities through benevolent programs, demon-strating that Elks Care and Elks Share.

ELKS MISSION STATEMENT

The 2nd Saturday of the month is the day we take the Blind Rehab Veterans for an outing. For October we went bowling, not sure if they liked bowling or the pizza party after. But it was a hit as they enjoyed getting away from the hospital. One man wanted to know if we would take him home for three days. He just wanted to get away. So getting them out does help. For November 14th we are going to the Reid Park Zoo. It will be much cooler in November than it has these past few months. After our walk we will all be ready for a lunch. Hoping you can join us for this fun event. It is always fun to see the animals and sometimes you can even feed them. Admission Rates• $9.00 adults ages 15-61• $7.00 seniors ages 62+• $5.00 children ages 2-14; FREE for children under 2 years• At the Gate• Groups of 15 or more individuals can receive $1 off each ticket purchased at the gate; no advance reservation is necessary. A single payment must be made for all tickets to receive this offerIf we can get 15 or more it would be nice to get the $1.00 off. Bring the kids and grandkids too. Getting pictures at the zoo is always nice for the holiday cards. And we will be there to help. The Sign Up Sheet will be posted at the lodge or feel free to call me at 520-579-7878.The Veterans Christmas Party is coming up – Building 60 will have the party December 18th and the Arizona State will be a few days before that one. More information will be out soon. Items are being collected now so the Red Hat ladies can wrap them for us. We appreciate all the help and the gifts that you bring in. So far we have approximately 30 or more packages for them to wrap. Let’s keep them busy.

AEMP UpdateAZ Elks Major Projects Still More Work To DoThe work at our Translational Children’s Research Center in Phoenix never stops, our Jack C Warter, Jr. Youth Camp is shut down for the winter and the most important thing we have left to do….. Raise money. Too many children suer from autoimmune diseases, too many children die for lack of Medical Research to nd cures. What can we do? Research needs money. Brian Bateman, our Planned Giving Consultant oers advise if you might be thinking... “But, I don’t have lots of money…”

It has been an honor to work with you as individual Elks. Arizona Elks Major Projects is at work on the Planned Giving Project. The goal is to encourage and help you to plan your estate. The hope is that you will consider including AEMP in your will, trust or IRA. But, that is your choice.

In my visits with you, the title of this article is a very common response. “But I don’t have lots of money…” Your common assumption is that only people with “lots of money” plan their estates. Or, you assume that only people with lots of money leave gifts in their will. Neither is true.

Whether you are worth $25,000 or $2.5 million, it is critical that you spell out your wishes. Your home, property and life savings must all be directed at the time of your death. Without legal instruction from you your estate may revert to the state, or be spent on court and attorney fees.

Elks Care and Elks Share. It does not matter whether you have lots of money. The money you have is for you to spend. Don’t put o working with your attorney to put your plans on paper. It is a small investment to be sure your wishes are met.

Contact the AEMP oce if you need some help with this delicate matter. Phone – 520-326-0556, email - [email protected], Address -PO Box 12668, Tucson, AZ 85732-2668

CLOTHE-A-CHILD SHOPPING SPREE Our annual Christmas Clothe-A-Child Shopping Spree is December 5, 2015. We need 25 volun-teers to take the children shopping at JCPenney El Con. If you want a truly rewarding experi-ence, come shopping with us and then come back to the lodge to have lunch with the kids. Please see or call Sandi Mittelstaedt to sign up or if you have any questions. Watch for our Rae of a HDTV in October through November to raise funds for this Christmas event and then again in March for the Easter Shopping Spree.

WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Aairs (VA) is strengthening community and

non-prot partnerships to better serve Veterans. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the

United States of America (BPO Elks) today announced that it has committed $4 million over a 4-year

period to help end Veteran homelessness.

This partnership and pledge embodies the mission of MyVA, launched last year to transform VA by

putting Veterans in control of how, when and where they wish to be served. In order to achieve

transformation, the Department has been reaching out to community partners working to meet the

needs of Veterans.

As a part of this partnership, the Elks will work with VHA sta on pilot programs in the cities of

Washington, Chicago and New York City. In addition, the organization is calling on the group’s

800,000 members across the country to support eorts to support homeless Veterans in their

communities. The Elks have a strong tradition of service to VA. In this scal year alone, approximately

1,300 Elks members volunteered more than 117,000 hours of service at VA facilities nationwide.

“We’re so excited about partnering with the Elks on this important issue impacting far too many

Veterans,” said VA Secretary Robert A. McDonald. “As we move closer to our goal of ending Veteran

homelessness, partnerships like these will be critical to ensuring that all Veterans have access to safe

and aordable housing.”

“Our goal is to provide the tools and support necessary for homeless Veterans to transition

successfully into healthier and more stable lives,” said Mary Morgan, Director of the Elks National

Veterans Service Commission. “Most Americans agree that Veteran homelessness should not exist,

but few people know how they can help.”

For more information about VA’s homeless initiatives, visit http://www.va.gov/homeless/. For more

information about the Elks’ service to Veterans, visit http://www.elks.org/vets/.
