Thank you to those active and retired who have served our country. November and December get busy what with the holidays and family gatherings. Besides Veterans’ Day, the next upcoming Elks event is our December Memorial service that’s always held the first Sunday in December. We take that time to recognize those Elks that we’ve lost since the prior service. We invite all Elks to join us to remember our fallen members: John Aaby Harlan Koberstein, PER John Pollack, PER Frederic Gill Well, we are over half way through our Elk fiscal year and we still have many members who have not paid their dues for this year. We have a list of those people later in this newsletter in case you thought you paid, but we don’t have a record of it. Please pay your dues. We budget for and count on the dues of the members on our active list to fulfill our budget obligations for the year. Secondly, we need someone to do the newsletter starting in January 2015. Vets eat free. All others are welcome to attend and dinner will be $9 apiece. Menu is fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and cake. We need six volunteers to help. FACC GIVING CHALLENGE! Immediately, the Freeport Elks Lodge is offering to match Elk member donations dollar for dollar up to a total $500 for the Freeport Area Church Cooperative. There is NO reason for their shelves to be empty as recently reported in local news. Please send your cash or check donation made out to FACC to the Lodge address by Friday, December 19 latest so we can match in kind. We’ll keep you posted on our status to the $500 goal. We’d like to get these funds to FACC as soon as possible to help them through the coming winter months. GREAT NW IL DISTRICT UPDATE: Next IEA State Meeting, Jan. 23-25, 2015, at the Hilton Plaza, Springfield, Illinois. All members are welcome to attend. All chair officers and Trustees should attend as they have classes for your office on Saturday. These meetings are lots of fun. This is a great time to go. Room reservation deposit is $96 (approx ½ total) and is due now if you want to attend. Please let Jan Vehmeier know if you’re interested in attending.

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION: This year’s ENF goal is $4.60 per person (nationally) and $5.50 (state). We hit our goal of $1,200. Way to go! At the last October lodge meeting it was agreed to distribute the current $1000 IEA gratitude grant as follows: $250 – FACC, $250 – Cub Scouts, $250 – NJROTC, and $250 – Stephenson County Civil War Monument. Because of your generosity, we will have several thousand dollars more to give back to our community through the ENF Foundation. Every penny matters.
ENF Most Valuable Student Scholarships DEADLINE FRIDAY DEC 5.
2015 Most Valuable Student applications are due to the Elks Lodge closest to the applicant's home by December 5, 2014. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. T he Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2015 competition. Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply. Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks. College students are not eligible to apply. Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify. Male and female
students compete separately. They are $10 apiece and go to support CCC. We raised $123 during the Halloween party for IECCC! Thank you to all who participated. TRUSTEES COMMITTEE - Chair. Jan Lawfer Ceiling tiles to replaced in the dining room. Trustees want to start building a handicap bathroom off the Dining Room. We would like members with building skills to help build to reduce costs. We have ADA specs on layout. Plumbers, electricians, general contractor needed. Denny Myers donated money for the bathroom, Lets get it done! Questions contact any trustee. There are many financial needs at the lodge for structure and the interior, so please give what you can to the Building Fund. We try to pace out these building expenditures as best we can but some of them have to be done soon. Thank you to all the members who generously included funds with their dues payment!
FOOD SERVICE IN NOV – We are planning a potluck dinner for Nov 19 and we’ll be serving our famous Italian Beef Sandwiches, Sloppy Joes or Fish on the Lightning nights. We are actively looking for regular food service for Friday nights. All ideas are welcome.
