1 April-June 2017 Celebration of International Day of Yoga 2017 The main public event to celebrate the 3 rd International Day of Yoga was organised at Dartmouth Square Park, Ranelagh, Dublin on 17 June 2017. The event was organised by Embassy of India and Dublin City Council. Yoga Therapy Ireland, Happenings, yoga associations, and some Indian companies supported the event. Celebration of International Day of Yoga 2017 The main public event to celebrate the 3rd International Day of Yoga was organised at Dartmouth Square Park, Ranelagh, Dublin on 17 June 2017. The event was organised by Embassy of India and Dublin City Council. Yoga Therapy Ireland, Happenings, yoga associations, and some Indian companies supported the event. The event was opened by the Ambassador highlighting the celebration of 3rd IDY worldwide.

A yoga session was conducted by a prominent yoga instructor, Ms. Louise Horgan, as per the Yoga Protocol. Huge participation from yoga enthusiasts made the event memorable and highly successful. A group of school children recited Sanskrit prayers and Shanti mantra.

IDY Celebration at Dublin City Hall

Another event to mark the 3rd International Day of Yoga was organised at the iconic Dublin City Hall on 21 June 2017, in collaboration with the Dublin City Council and Yoga Therapy Ireland. The Deputy Lord Mayor was the Chief Guest. The event was attended by Diplomatic Corps, International Women’s Club of Dublin, Sanatana Ireland, Isha Foundation, Prominent members of Indian Community and local Irish citizens.

In her address, Deputy Lord Mayor recognised the contributions made by the Indian Community in Ireland. The Ambassador spoke about the India’s contribution to the collective human knowledge including through Yoga. She also brought out several commonalities between Indian and Irish culture.

The Embassy of India organised an

online YogaQuiz competition on 18 June 2017 and the prizes to the winners were handed over by Dy. Lord Mayor at the event.

IDY Celebration at Wexford

An event to mark the 3rd International Day of Yoga was organised by Spiritual Earth in collaboration with Rejuvenate Ireland and Wexford Chamber on 21 June 2017 at Wexford. Ambassador was the Chief Guest and the other speakers included CEO, Wexford Chamber; Founder of Rejuvenate Ireland and Spiritual Earth, RTE’s Sports Broadcaster and several other prominent speakers.

The event focused on the benefits of Yoga to de-stress and build focus and energy in work spheres.

Talk on “Sustainable Life Styles: Yoga and Indian Traditions”

As part of International Day of Yoga 2017, Embassy of India, in collaboration with Dublin City University (DCU), organised a talk on “Sustainable Life Styles: Yoga and Indian Traditions” on 24 May 2017.

Prof. Brian McCraith, President,

DCU, Prof. Girish Chandra Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor, Banaras Hindu University, Prof. Anjoo Sharan Upadhyaya, ICCR Chair at DCU and Amb. Vijay Thakur Singh spoke on various facets of Yoga. The programme was conducted by Prof. Eileen Connolly, Head of the Ireland-India Institute, DCU.

Sanskrit Shloka Recital Competition at John Scottus

School Dublin as part of the IDY 2017 event.

A Sanskrit Shloka Recital Competition was organised on 17 May 2017 at John Scottus School, Dublin, where about 120 students participated in 15 categories.

Asia Matters Summit Cork

Amb. Vijay Thakur Singh attended the Asia Matters Summit held in Cork. The 2-day Summit was organised by Asia Matters, in partnership with Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) on 17 and 18 May 2017 with the theme ‘Building Win–Win Strategic Partnerships between Asia and Ireland’

Giving the keynote address Ambassador highlighted the opportunities for Ireland to collaborate with India.

She also met Indian students in CIT.

Education in Ireland International Student Ambassador Awards Ceremony

The 6th International Student Ambassador Awards Ceremony was held in Dublin in April 2017. The event honours International Students for studying

in Ireland. Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton T.D. addressed the event.

Proud that more than 15 Indian students participated.

Air India Kanishka Crash Commemoration Ceremony 2017

The 32nd year Commemoration Ceremony of Air India Kanishka Crash was organised at Ahakista on 23 June 2017. The ceremony commenced with one minute silence, followed by chanting by victims’ families. Wreaths were laid in memory of victims by Amb. Vijay Thakur Singh, Ambassador of Canada, Mayor of Country Cork and families of the victims.■■■

Annual Ambassadors Event

Amb. Mrs. Vijay Thakur Singh at the 3rd Annual Ambassadors Event, organized at Trinity College Dublin by Society for International Affairs at Trinity College on 13 March 2017.

Commemoration of Yeats Day Amb. Vijay Thakur Singh participated in a ceremony to commemorate

Yeats Day on 13 June 2017 at Sandymount Green, birthplace of the Nobel Laurate W. B. Yeats. For the first time, Yeats’ Day included a recital from Rabindranath Tagore’s poem also. The event was organised by Yeats’ biographer Anthony J. Jordan. Ambassador recited two poems from Gitanjali.

NCI Students win the Citi Upstart Programme

A team of students from National College of Ireland (NCI) won the grand final of the Citi Upstart Programme held at Queens’ University Belfast. The Upstart is a team based entrepreneurship programme run by Citi Group for Post-graduate students to propose start-up business plans.

The team ‘Codeline’ from NCI won the competition. The second team

was GalacticVR. Both the teams consisted of students from India who joined NCI for post graduate studies in Cloud Computing.

24x7 Toll Free Multi-Lingual Tourist Helpline in India The Ministry of Tourism has introduced a 24x7 Toll Free Multi-Lingual Tourist Help Line to facilitate visits of foreign tourist visiting India. The Help Line is launched in 12 International Languages namely, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese Portuguese, Russian and Spanish including Hindi & English and is available

on toll free number 1800111363 or on a short code 1363 and operational 24X7 (365 days in a year) offering a "multi-lingual helpdesk".

The objective of this multi-lingual helpline is to provide information relating to travel and tourism in India to the domestic and international tourists. The helpline also advises callers during the times of distress, if any, while travelling in India and alerts the concerned authorities, if required. This is a unique endeavour by Government of India which gives the foreign tourists a sense of safety and security during their travel in India.■■■

Indian students studying in Universities/Colleges in Ireland are welcome to register their details in the Students Registration module under MADAD: Consular Grievances Monitoring System, at the link

Extension of date till 31.12.2017 for submission of application for registration as OCI card holder in lieu of the PIO Card online

An OCI card holder is entitled to multiple

entry multi-purpose life-long visa for

visiting India, exemption from registration with local police

authority for any length of stay in India and parity with Non

Resident Indians (NRIs) in respect of economic, financial and

educational fields except in relation to acquisition of agricultural

or plantation properties. No parity shall be allowed in the sphere

of political rights (For more details, please refer to our website).

Further, the OCI card will facilitate quicker immigration

clearances at the Immigration Check Points and also for

obtaining various consular services from the Indian

Missions. Further, for those residing in India, it will facilitate in

availing various services in India.■■■

e-TOURIST VISA (eTV) Services of e-Tourist Visa involves completely online application for which no facilitation is required by any intermediary/agents etc. It is advised not to believe or fall in trap of any such unscrupulous elements. For any clarification or doubt may contact to [email protected]. Eligibility

International Travellers whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends or relatives, short duration medical treatment or casual business visit.

Passport should have at least six months validity from the date of arrival in India. The passport should have at least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer.

International Travellers should have return ticket or onward journey ticket, with sufficient money to spend during his/her stay in India.

International Travellers having Pakistani Passport or Pakistani origin may please apply for regular Visa at Indian Mission.

Not available to Diplomatic/Official Passport Holders. Not available to individuals endorsed on Parent’s/Spouse’s Passport i.e. each

individual should have a separate passport. Not available to International Travel Document Holders.

Launch of Portal for Know India Programme

On 17 June 2017, External Affairs Minister of India inaugurated a portal for Know India Programme (KIP) for engagement with young overseas Indians. The portal www.kip.gov.in enables Indian-origin youth to apply online for KIP programmes.

This year i.e. in 2017-18, six Know India Programmes (KIP) will be organised with participation of 40 overseas Indians in each programme. The schedule of KIPs has been finalised and can be seen online. The first four KIPs to be in held in 2017 are as below:

Efforts would be made to accommodate participants in the KIP of their first preference. Applications can be submitted online by the overseas Indians from 23 June to 21 July 2017. ■■■
