I worked mainly and directly out of the Kettering Activities Guide, the activities guide

was the complete list of all activities, drop-in schedule recreation complex, events and

camp information. The activities guide provided all of the information that I was to use to

promote and publicize the events and courses provided. The activities guide is mailed to

all Kettering Residents quarterly throughout the year. I had the opportunity to copy edit

the fall activities guide, to make sure there were no spelling errors, all page numbers

were correct and all information were correct. This is the main way that Kettering

residents has a knowledge of Kettering Activities, courses and events.

The Play Kettering App’s purpose was to give

Kettering Residents and Kettering Recreation

members to be able to access Kettering

Recreation Complex information with their smart

phone. The goal of creating the app was to make

visiting the recreation complex and other

Kettering parks easier to promote residents and

members attendance. By adding in drop-in

classes’ schedules, directions and hours of

operations, membership scan-in, news and

announcements we hope to make visiting the

Kettering recreation complex easier. Helping

pioneer development with this app the true

impact of this app will be seen in a few months

and be measured by, new memberships, drop-in class enrollment, and overall

attendance of the rec. complex.

The Facebook Art was created for new or low enrolled classes and events, to create an

eye catching visual that would prompt parents to enroll their children in whatever

promotion that we were selling at the time. We focused around families participation

with a very of ages to promote family activities and enrolling. The Facebook Art would

also be displayed on the monitors in the Recreation Complex, Arts Centre and

government buildings in hopes of informing and promoting Kettering activities among

Kettering residents.

Over my time at Kettering PCRA I wrote numerous press releases, they were focused

on free events that Kettering was putting on aimed at usually young children and

families. Although I wrote numerous press releases, not all were published but some

were, they were published the exact way I formatted and wrote them. Some were

picked up by the Dayton Daily News, local newspaper, and had full articles inspired by

the press releases and PRCA activities. Quickly writing numerous releases and knowing

they would published how I wrote them made me inspired to avoid errors and improved

my writing skills. Although I was surprised by how short and concise the PRCA press

releases were they were helpful.

One of my assignments was to create a calendar for every month creating a

course and event schedule of the activities of that month. The events were focused

around parent and children activities, encouraging family activities and bonding within

the city of Kettering. These calendars were made to be placed in Kettering Public

Schools Elementary and Middle Schools, this is an effective tool to reach out to

Kettering’s PRCA target audience. It would be my task to go through the catalog to find

what fit the guidelines and would be marketable to younger children, pre-teens and their

families. I would create the information for the calendar then send it to the

Administrative support to create the poster to be sent out. This was not only effective for

the PRCA department but is an appreciated piece of information for parents and

children in the Kettering community.
