March 2010 Editor - Dave Murray (Covers club activities and news for February 2010) Presidents Report By Dave Doyon Our winter Num-Bum certainly lived up to its name this year. Although we had no snow on the ground the winds were blowing and the temperatures were cold. Turnout was good considering the conditions. Two of us brave souls flew and two of us foolish soles crashed. After our attempts no one else attempted to fly. The company was good and Gerry Barrons had excellent Chilli and warm drinks to help us brave the cold. Maybe next year we will wait for a good weekend to have the event. Our Indoor Fun fly was very successful. About 30-35 pilots from 3 clubs attended and had a great exchange of ideas and information. The gym was constantly full of airplanes for the 4 hours. We also had a number of spectators who seemed to have a good time. . I would like to thank my wife for preparing the food it seemed to be enjoyed by all. This summer we plan to invite members of other local clubs to some of our events and attend some event taking place at the other clubs. We will keep our members informed about these events. The club is looking at placing an order for some golf shirts with our club logo. Don Souiliere checked around and found a shop in Kingsville that can offer us a good quality shirt at a reasonable price in small quantities. We are looking at a medium gray shirt (available with and without pockets). Our club logo would be embroidered on the front. We will have some examples at the next meeting and if members would like to order them we will have an order President Dave Doyon 519-979-7546 [email protected] Vice-President Gerry Barrons [email protected] Secretary Bob Garrett 519-979-4670 robegarr@sympatico. ca Advisor Murray Inverarity minverarity@sympatico. ca Treasurer Dave Murray 519 736 8279 davidmurray@ pobox.com The March meeting will be held at the Sportsman's Club at 2401 Dougall Ave (next to Brentwood) at 7:30, March 1, 2010 Past President Ron Harway [email protected]

Dennis Pratt confirmed the Heavy Lift competition will take place on the weekend following the club Family Day. ----------------------------------------------- Greg Meyer inquired as to the existence and location of past records. Dave Doyon reported that Ron Harway (past President) has a two drawer filing cabinet containing past records and information. We need to find a new location to store this information. Dennis Pratt also has many archival records, pictures, and items that should be stored in a safe location. NEW BUSINESS 2010 Budget Dave Murray presented the proposed budget for 2010. This budget has been posted and available on the club website for members to access prior to this meeting. After general questions and discussion, it was; Moved by Palmer Johnson and seconded by Dave Kool; “That the 2010 budget be approved as presented.” Carried ----------------------------------------------- 2010 Schedule of Events Dave Doyon presented the schedule of club events for membership approval. Basically events remain unchanged except that one day events will be held on Saturdays leaving Sunday as a rain date. One new indoor event has been added. This schedule is available on our website and will also be published in the Emitter. Moved by Bill Green and seconded by Bob Axford; “That the 2010 Schedule of Events be approved as presented.” Carried ----------------------------------------------- Radio Station Recognition Dennis Pratt initiated discussion that we need to better promote the radio station that owns our flying field. The executive has discussed this matter as well. All agree that we want to support our land owner and that this is an opportunity that can mutually benefit both parties. Moved by Dennis Pratt and seconded by Larry Hawkworth; “That the club executive approach the radio station management regarding ideas as how we can best promote them through our hobby and club events.”

Carried The executive was directed to locate the club banner so that it can prominently be displayed at club functions. ----------------------------------------------- Leader Members CD Designation Peter Doupnik inquired into the status of the executive identifying candidates for MAAC Leadership status and recognition. Dave Doyon stated the executive is engaged in such discussions about leadership and CD candidates and will continue to draw upon the expertise of our club members who are familiar with the process. ----------------------------------------------- Palmer Johnson was able to locate the Dave Henshaw award Plaque. Dennis Pratt will see that Roger D’Amore’s name is added to the plaque as our latest recipient. ----------------------------------------------- A number of our members attended the KMP Model Night at Action Hobbies hosted by our neighbouring Southern R/C flyers Club. It was a very interesting behind the scenes look at the modelling industry. Since almost all ARF models are built in China, it was surprising to see the lack of safety standards and practices that are required in North America. ----------------------------------------------- Meeting was closed at 8:30 on a motion by Sepp Uiberlacher and seconded by Murray Inverarity. ----------------------------------------------- The winner of the 50/50 draw was Dave Doyon $48.50 ----------------------------------------------- POST MEETING ACTIVITIES Dennis Pratt gave a presentation on control rod set up in model aircraft. We were presented with a variety of options and strategies to gain the safest and most efficient use of the models control surfaces. This talk was of particular value to those newer to the hobby, and a good review for all of us. Thanks Dennis. Bob Garrett Secretary SunParlor R/C Flyers Inc.

Sunparlor Flyers News and Other Fun Stuff

Numbum Numbum certainly lived up to its name this winter. A few brave souls ventured out and there was some brief attempts at flying in the hurricane force winds and cold temperatures. However, very soon everyone was huddled in the improvised shelter eating chilli and drinking hot chocolate. The pictures below tell the story:

Page 7: Emitter March 2010 - ImageEventphotos.imageevent.com/sunparlorflyers/emitter... · Moved by Dave Kool and seconded by Dennis Pratt ... Dennis Pratt gave a presentation on control

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Indoor Event We held our first (hopefully) annual indoor event at Herman High School on February 21. It was very well attended with about 35 pilots and another 15 or 20 spectators from three of the area clubs. There was a lot of fun flying and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to fly with so many of our fellow indoor enthusiasts. Don McLellan from Chatham put on a really impressive display of his 3D skills. There were several interludes where the very light weight aircraft were allowed unimpeded flight time and this allowed some of the beginners to participate in the fun. Thanks to Action Hobbies who came and displayed some of their wares to provide us with even more temptation. It was pretty obvious that this informal get together was well enjoyed and will likely be a regular event for our club. There are a many pictures posted on our website under 'Club Photo's. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spitfire Update Sepp is making great progress on his new Spitfire Mk16. Here are some pictures of Sepp showing his latest work to Lisa Stark, who is Dave Murray's daughter-in-law and also an airline
