Montgomery Bus Boycott • Began with the arrest of Rosa Parks on December 1,

1955 – she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man– Busses were segregated

• Lasted until December 20, 1956, when segregated busses were found to be unconstitutional

• Led by Martin Luther King, Jr.

• Boycott: to choose to not purchase a good or service

Little Rock Nine (1957)• Integration of schools after Brown v. Board • Nine students picked to integrate Little Rock HS

• The governor of Arkansas prevented them from entering the building until troops sent by President Eisenhower escorted them into the school

What is It??

• Affirmative action refers to policies that take factors including "race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation or national origin" into consideration in order to benefit an underrepresented group.
