Israel’s lament to a seemingly silent God, “Why have you for-saken me?” (Matthew 27:46) on the lips of Jesus, God’s suffering and self-emptying servant, sig-nals abandonment, but not des-pair. Though the specter of sep-

aration haunts their Last Supper, Jesus promises that he will “drink [the wine] new” with his disciples in the Fa-

ther’s kingdom (26:29).

Far from ending bleakly, Matthew’s Passion comforts

the Church, wounded by betrayal and denial, scarred by scandal and sin, and us, always falling and rising, sin-ning and repenting. For, although Jesus seems dead—

tomb secured, seal fixed, guard set—his silent Abba (and ours) is already stirring nature, stirring hearts. An earth-quake signals creation’s seismic shifting, and even the dead rise. True, hostility to Jesus will never be lacking,

but neither will courageous discipleship, sometimes where least expected: Gentile soldiers professing faith, a wealthy elder reverently caring for Jesus’ body. Even we,

disciples who too often “look on from a dis-tance” (Matthew 27:55), respond to Christ’s Passion to-day by profession of that timeless faith: he “rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

Question of the Week As I carry home the blessed palms that celebrate Jesus’

victory, how will I embrace and implement Jesus’ gentle, loving way of bringing about God’s kingdom into my

corner of the world?

Believe it or not men, but this com-ing week is Week. Are we as the spiritual leaders of our families, ready to endeavor to follow Christ to the end. Our Lady and St. Jo-seph had greater faith than anyone else before or after them. Nonethe-less, God was willing to help their faith with signs from heaven. As we seek to fulfill God's will in our life,

he will give us signs to help guide us along the way. Is God sending the world any signs today? Yes he is. It is a sign in the heavens! Are we ready as men to recognize and receive these signs from God? Don't look for the signs, let God spontaneously send them to you. Come join us at TMIY (That Man Is You!) and learn with us to recognize the signs that God is send-ing to each and everyone of us, everyday. Please join us every Tuesday evening at 6:30-8:00. And as usual, bring a friend and an appetite.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

(Proverbs 27:17)

All middle school and highs school students are invited to attend the Casting Crowns Concert with St. Jerome

on May 7th at 7:00 PM in Freeman Colosseum. We will meet at St. Jerome at 6:00 PM to leave for the concert.

Cost to attend is $25.00.

Limited ticket availability.

Please contact Jessica Lubianski (210) 400-5683 to purchase a ticket!

Vocations Awareness Talk

St. Jerome will be hosting the vocations office on April 23rd at the 8:30 AM Mass. All faith formation classes from Pre K – Confirmation

are required to attend the 8:30 AM Mass.

Students will not attend their regular faith formation classes this Sunday and will participate with the vocations office presentation following the mass.

This is a great opportunity for our students to encounter individuals who have and are currently

discerning God’s call. ARMOR

Our new young adult ministry launched on March 30th, 2016! It was a wonderful evening studying focusing on

the armor of God from the book of Ephesians.

ARMOR will meet again on April 27th, 2017 at 7 pm!

All young adults are welcome to participate and come out for this great event!

The Music Ministry meeting scheduled for April 4, 2017 is postponed

until Tuesday, May 2. However, this meeting will be extra important as all

budget input will need to be finalized at this meeting. (Budget is due in June).

Please let all your members know of the change of date and get their budget input also. Also, notify all choirs of

the times of choir practices for Holy Week and Easter services.

The St. Jerome Altar Society thanks all the amazing men and women who joined us on the Hill Country, Wildflowers and More Tour! The day started off perfect with Father Scott blessing our bus and praying over us as we started our journey! Karen Tindall led the Rosary and then our Guide, Mary Jurewicz took over. As we headed to Johnson City, we saw so many bright colored Texas Wildflowers along the high-way! Our first stop was LBJ Ranch and famous Texas Whitehouse, next we visited the Painted Church, St. Mary’s, in Fredericksburg then we stopped for lunch at Wheelers. After a quick

lunch we shopped a little bit on Main-Street. There was still more to do so we jumped

back on the bus to take in the beautiful wildflowers at Wildseed Farms and enjoy some wine at Wedding Oak Winery, then we boarded the bus for our final stop and was greeted with the favorite hit “Luckenbach Texas” by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson as made our way to Luckenbach! The day was long but filled with lots of fun! Thanks again for all of your sup-port!

Your help is needed in helping prepare the Church for Holy Week. Anyone is welcome. We will set up for

Holy Thursday at 9 am and Easter on Saturday at 7:30 am. Question call Marilyn (210) 215- 8117. God's Blessings and

thank you to the ten volunteers who helped clean the Sanctuary and Chapel on Tuesday. Also, we appreciate and thank

you to Joe Jaksik for building the Rugged Cross and to Art Grams for constructing the board for the Altar of Repose.

May God continue to Bless you.
