AROUND THE GROUNDS – ROUND NO.7

Round No.7 saw six wins from our junior sides with the best effort coming from our 16A side with a gutsy

win over St. Pats with only 8 players. Andrew Ritchie had a great all round match with 35 & 3 for 8 and was

well supported by William Whitehouse 29 and Mitchell Betts 3 for 13. Our 16C side extended their lead at

the top of their competition with a impressive win over Bangor and narrowly missing out on outright points

with Steven Green 46, Luke Goodman 2 for 6 and Jack Stewart 29 & 2 for 7 all having big games. The

U12D’s had a good two Saturday mornings winning both their one day matches in style with Joel Street 19

not out and Aidan Wood 20 top scorers. The 10A team led by joint ‘Junior Players of the Round’ Aiden

Stewart 4 for 4 and Bailey Croker 28 not out helped their side to a big win over St. Pats while ‘Intermediate

Player of the Round’ Corey Alford 5 for 37 was the stand out in his 14A team narrow loss to DLS. The U8

Blue team had another mighty win with outstanding all round matches from Thomas Wheatley 29 & 4 for

3, Jayden Dundas 24 & 3 for 10, Ryan Lillis 31 & 2 for 9 and Lucas Sheehy 40 & 1 for 1. Other good

performances this round came from Nathan Allen (14C) 51, Riley Ganderton (12C) 43 not out, Hamish Jacka

(14C) 41, Riley Cussen (12A) 3 for 9 and Matthew Hull (14A) 3 for 12. Zac Brownscombe (10E) was the

round’s best fielder with 2 catches and a run out.

A good couple of Saturdays has seen five of our seven senior sides climb into the top three of their

competitions and a chance of qualifying for a semi final spot at the end of February. The current standings

are – B1/1 – 6th, B1/2 – 3rd, B2/1 – 4th, B2/2 – 3rd, B3 – 2nd, B4 – 2nd & C1 – 2nd

The two most outstanding performance over the last two rounds came from centurions Mark Mitchell

(B1/1) 102 not out and Tim Russell (B1/2) 100 not out closely followed by Marty McKenzie (B1/2) 81 and

Clinton Allen (B2/2) 4 for 16.

At the conclusion of last Saturday all our sides will now break for the Christmas holidays before the

competition’s resume again on Saturday January 14 for our Seniors and January 28 for our Junior teams.

The Club wishes all their players and families a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.

10C TEAM

In a very tough contest the 10c team was defeated by a determined and committed Bangor squad in round 7. Final score 4/142 vs 10/119. We got off to a very strong start in the first week but let the match slip in week 2 with some fine cricket from our opponent and a slip in discipline from ourselves. Kyle got the nod for captaincy this round and had us batting first. Liam and Will Marcic got us underway. Liam was unlucky to get caught early on in his innings for 1. Will however, proved to the rest of the team that patience was the key and refused to give his wicket away during both of his stints at the crease remaining the not out batsman for 9 runs from our team. Corey and Noah continued their strong form with the bat and both smashed several boundaries to return scores of 20 and 24. Excellent batting.

Page 10: Engadine Dragons Cricket Club Inc NEWSLETTER No. 7€¦ · Engadine Dragons Cricket Club Inc NEWSLETTER – No. 7 The Engadine Dragons Cricket Club is proudly sponsored by: GOLD SPONSOR

Will Price was in at number 5 but an exuberant shot had him caught early for 1 run. Maeve settled us in the middle order notching 14 runs including 2 blistering 4's. Unfortunately our lower order failed to fire against a clever Bangor combination of pace and spin bowling as well as some brilliant fielding. Jack and Tom each scored 2 but unfortunately Connor, Tyson and Kyle weren't able to trouble the scorers. With the ball our bowlers toiled strongly in week 1 but the sundries ballooned in week 2 and our fielding wasn't up to scratch letting Bangor's score get too far from our grasp. Tyson's fearsome pace bowling was very tidy this round and he limited the scoring to 7 off his 3 overs. Jake is our maiden over specialist getting another this match and ultimately only conceding 2 from his 2 overs. Tom sent down 3 overs this match and took one of our 4 team dismissals. Only 10 came from his spell. Jack's bowling was sensational and he too grabbed a wicket thanks to Will M's terrific catch. A lighting effort in the field enabled a run out too. Corey's 3 overs were tidy and finished 0/14. Connor and Kyle each sent down 4 overs this round and finished with identical figures none for 17. Noah's bowling was swift this round and 3 overs for 10 runs is a great effort. Will M sent the bails flying with a superb delivery dismissing their classy batsman before he was able to score too many. Liam contributed finely to our bowling performance with some nice line and length; 0/8 off 3. Will Price restricted the scoring and conceded only 11 from his 2 overs. Maeve too was very effective with her bowling and score book shows plenty of dot balls. 0/7 off 3 overs. For his nice bowling and fielding, Jack got the trophy this round. No doubt plenty of cricket in the backyard and on the beach over the summer break will ensure that the

mighty 10c squad return in January refreshed and rejuvenated for a serious tilt at the premiership. Have a

Merry Christmas.

After a three game loss, we would have liked to go out with a win before the end of 2016 unfortunately it

didn't happen. Engadine won the toss and sent Seagulls into bat.

Our pace bowlers started picking up wickets from Corey M 1, Tyler 1, Lachlan a run out and Hayden

bowling great line and length picking up 2/2 off 5 until Seagulls then started to play a defensive game and

tried to bat out the overs until Corey A came on to make their batsman play their shots.

With his left hand off spin, Corey picked up 5/37 off 8, with a stumping from Brayden, two bowled and two

caught from fielders Corey M & Josh. Well done Corey picking up five wickets.

The next innings with Engadine batting wasn't the best with the bat with Engadine score all out for 98 top

scorers Corey M 23 and Brayden 17.

With the second innings finishing early and Seagulls batting into a third innings, seagulls were early on the

back foot with their batting with Brayden opening up the bowling with Matt Hull. Brayden first ball hitting

the mark, bowled a cracker first ball, knocking over the stumps had them rattled. Brayden finished with

2/8 off 5. Matt Hull then opened up the bowling from the other end with the new ball and was bowling

great length, with the best dive from his bowling to pick up a bowled and caught. Amazing stats Matt 3/12

off 5 well done keep it going into 2017 Josh who normally is wicket keeper had a bowl and contributed to

the wickets picking up 2/7 off 3 as well.

Overall It was a wasn't the best game we have played as a team this year and the time, knowledge,

experience and hours Adam has put into the team and helping out each individual was very disappointing

for a 14A side from what I've seen. We are a team and let's play as a team and show the Engadine Dragons

club spirit.

Enjoy the holidays and let’s bounce back in 2017.

Cheers

Scott

14 B’s Match Report Round 7 – Vs Caringbah

Last game of the year before the break the boys needed a win. The weather had not been friendly the past

few weeks with training being cancelled and unfortunately it showed. The boys put in fielding first with

some good ground fielding and catches being taken. After 25 overs we had Caringbah 6/76 which is great

effort.

Our turn to bat and things never really got off the ground. Wickets fell at regular intervals with only Ty and

Tyler making it into double figures. The team eventually all out for 59.

Nothing can be said about the effort the boys are putting in and I am sure we will get back on a winning run

in the New Year.

Chris and I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years. Enjoy the break and we

will be back at it again soon.

14C TEAM

Como Jannali 2: 6/198 v Engadine 3: 115

Como-Jannali batted first and after 25 overs, were 2/102.

Tight controlled bowling from Nathan T, 4 overs 0/15; Adam, 4 overs 2/9; Hamish, 4 overs 0/8 and Taj, 3

overs 1/1. Callum was the other wicket taker, 2 overs, 1/11.

With accurate bowling and good fielding, we had the opposition at 0/47 from 13 overs. Another 55 runs

was taken from the final 12 overs.

Another solid opening partnership from Hamish (41) and Nathan A, 40 not out, gave us a real good start to

build an innings that would see us over the 200 mark.

Hamish was dismissed after a slashing square cut, only to be dismissed by a Steve Smith type one handed

catch at close point. Unfortunately, Taj was dismissed soon after for a duck. Jay and Nathan steadied the

innings to see us 2/89 after 25 overs.

After an innings of concentration and well crafted shot selection, Nathan A brought up his first half century

of the season! Great innings mate. We were losing quick wickets at the other end, with Jay gone for 6 and

the remaining batsmen not giving the scorers much to do. After 25 overs we were all out for 115.

In an effort for quick runs, Nathan was also dismissed for 51, by another one handed flyer at square leg,

which would have gone to the boundary, except for the catch. Two unlucky LBW decisions against us also

didn’t help in our innings total.

With only 14 runs to chase down, we were well beaten.

Page 13: Engadine Dragons Cricket Club Inc NEWSLETTER No. 7€¦ · Engadine Dragons Cricket Club Inc NEWSLETTER – No. 7 The Engadine Dragons Cricket Club is proudly sponsored by: GOLD SPONSOR

Wickets went to Thal, Callum, Taj, Laythen and Adam and a very snappy, fast thinking run out by Nathan A

at wicket keeper. Also, a very sharp, 2nd attempt one handed catch by Nathan T at point.

Once again, just not enough runs scored to be competitive. After 7 rounds, other teams are improving with

their bowling and also scores. 200 plus is a par score in this competition and so any score less than this

really won’t bring home the win.

Enjoy your holiday’s boys; any chance you get, head to the cricket nets and keep practising. In seasons

gone by, I’ve seen boy’s come back much improved after spending time in the nets batting and bowling.

Thank you again for the support from parents and grandparents. I’m sure you will enjoy the break and

much as Pete and I!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Steve & Pete

16A TEAM

Playing home against St Pats the boys won the toss and elected to bat. Will W and Mitchell opened and had

a flying start forming a great partnership. Andrew came in batting well, followed by Ryan and Cameron all

helping to build a solid total. Lachlan and Dane also formed a good partnership before Josh and William C

were out. Zac came in with an injured knee to help the team bat out the 60 overs. Scoring his first runs of

the season the crowd cheered loudly as Zac got off the mark and finished not out on 5. Well done boys for

showing patience and determination to bat out the overs and post a good total of 146.

Week 2 saw us take the field with only 8 players, the team knew they would have to bowl and field well to

make up for all the gaps in the field. The boys should be proud of themselves for not giving up. An early

wicket to Mitchell spurred the boys on giving them encouragement. Tight bowling saw only 3 sundries for

the innings. Mitchell and Andrew ended the day with 3 wickets a piece, Cameron with 2 and Cameron and

Dane with great run outs. A big thanks to Luke for helping out in the field.

A great way to finish off before the Christmas Break. Well done boys!

Enjoy the holidays!

SENIOR MATCH REPORTS – ROUND NO.9

B1/1 TEAM

Round 9 Match Report – B1’s vs St Pats

The last game for the year and a must win in terms of our position on the ladder. Losing the toss and

getting sent out into the field with the sun beaming down wasn’t desirable but the boys dug in. Having a

full team always helps and Stew, Sammy, Hyden and Ad’s all bowled tight restricting St Pats to 90 runs at

drinks. St Pats started to build a good partnership slowly building their total to a decent score.

I think the heat was getting to the St Pats boys on the side line as they stuffed up who had bowled

restricting our main strike bowler, Hydey from bowling the last over with 20 runs coming from his

replacement. A run chase of 213 was needed.

Dunco and Marty made their way out with Marty needing to leave early he threw his hand up for the

challenge. Duncs hit a quick fire 18 before being caught on the boundary. Tim came in and a partnership

slowly built between him and Marty. At drinks the boys got the score to 120 which set a great platform for

the run home. The scoreboard kept ticking over and the partnership kept building. Marty was

unfortunately caught behind scoring an impressive 81 runs. An impressive 190 run partnership came to a

close with not many more needed to take the win.

Tim, chasing his maiden century nudged the score closer and closer. Needing only three runs to win and

four for the century, he knocked one past the bowler for four to finally made it to three figures.

This was a massive win in relation to the season and kept us in the top three. A great team effort which

showed the fight this team has.

Merry Christmas to all the boys and a Happy New Year, the season starts back up on the 7th of January

2017.
