Sherbrooke,A TRUE
COLLEGE TOWNSherbrooke ranks as Quebec's sixth largest city
with a population of 150,000. In addition to being
bilingual, Sherbrooke is home to two universities
—one English speaking and the other French
speaking—and three colleges. The vast majority
of the student population comes from outside of
the city, making Sherbrooke a young, vibrant,
and vital city.
Moreover, the cost of living in Sherbrooke is very rea-
sonable and there are no traffic jams to speak of. The
area's lakes, rivers, and mountains combine to make
Sherbrooke an outstanding place to live. Downtown
holds a great deal of attraction for students, with its
movie theatres, cafés, bars, and small clubs where
emerging groups perform, giving Sherbrooke its own
reputation in the music industry.
Reasons why Sherbrooke stands out from other towns in the country:
20% OF ITS POPULATION PURSUES POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION
60% OF ITS ECONOMY IS LINKED TO THE KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY
ITS HIGHLY ADVANTAGEOUS POSITION AS AN INTEGRATED STUDENT CITY IN ASELECT CLUB COMPRISING A SMALL NUMBER OF CITIES AROUND THE WORLD
ITS LEADERSHIP ROLE IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

UdeS andTHE WORLDUdeS's reputation for vitality and innovation attracts students
from across the province and around the world. More than 85%
of the University's student population comes from outside
Sherbrooke, creating a warm atmosphere that lets new students
integrate into the community easier.
Internationalization at UdeS means:
3,700 international students and immigrants from 120 countries
650 exchange students through student mobility programs
288 international cooperative agreements with 40 countries
Cultural diversity reflected in faculty representation, since 24% of faculty members were born outside of Canada
Active partnerships with the Réseau Latinus (initiative linking Romance-language universities) and the Confucius Institute

The Université de Sherbrooke hasrevolutionized teaching, particularlythrough the use of problem-based andproject-based learning (PBL). In thesetwo approaches, students work insmall groups under the supervision ofa tutor to solve a problem or carry outa project. They learn to performresearch and synthesize information, develop autonomy and the ability todiscuss as team members, and acquireboth professional and personal skills.
In addition to being the first French-speaking university to adopt the co-opteaching approach, the Université deSherbrooke still remains one of theleaders in this field. This method, which combines periods of study withpaid work terms, allows a significantnumber of students to gain practicalexperience while confirming tothemselves they have chosen the rightacademic and career paths.
Education thatPrepares Students
for theFUTURE
The Université deSherbrooke offers more than
350 programs, all developed with a view to training
new generations of professionals that meet the
needs of employers. The in-depth knowledge and
skills of our faculty members; the program
structure, designed as a veritable learning pathway;
alternating work terms and periods of study in the
co-op program; and practical exercise and major
projects come together to form an integrated whole
that enables students to better master the material
and apply what they have learned to real situations.
That’s why Sherbrooke graduates stand out from
their first day on the labor market. That, too, is
seeing the future.
CENTRED ON PRACTICAL EXPERIENCEAND INNOVATION
Only Canadian citizens and landed immigrants can takepart in the cooperative program.
The co-op benefits for students includegaining experience and earning a salary.Employers benefit from the services andknowledge of the next generation ofuniversity graduates highly interestedin learning and succeeding.
In 1966, the Université de Sherbrookeestablished Quebec's first universityco-op program and remains the definiteleader in this field. Our co-op offeringconsists of more than 40 programs, concentrations, and pathways.
Each year, our students go on nearly4,000 internships throughout Quebecand even across the world. More than50 people, including about 30 internshipcoordinators, seek out internshippossibilities in addition to advisingand assisting students and employersthroughout the cooperative experience.
Co-op graduates amass at least one yearof relevant experience before earningtheir diplomas, while reaping thebenefits of unrivaled career prepara-tion that employers genuinely value.
CooperativeINTERNSHIPSThe Université de Sherbrooke's co-op program gives students the
opportunity to work for companies in their chosen fields and meet
actual professionals, while working towards their degrees. This original
and practical approach alternates semesters of academic study with
semesters of full-time employment throughout the student's program.
Total of $35M a year paid directlyto interns
About 20% of internships in Sherbrooke, 30% in Montréal,20% in Montérégie, and 10%in Québec City
Overall internship placement rateof 98% across all programsof study
