English (Ms Jemma and Mrs Gillian)

This term the pupils will be developing their reading and writing skills through a unit of work exploring how villains and heroes are portrayed in a range of fictional texts. The pupils will develop a clear understanding of how characters are developed and techniques used by writers for effect on their readers. They will be working towards an assessment where they must firstly demonstrate their comprehension skills, and their ability to retrieve key information from a text. Additionally the pupils will begin to develop an understanding of how to create interesting and effective characters in their writing.

Mathematics (Ms. Anita Sundralingam)

This term, students will be learning about four main components:

Numbers (add, subtract, multiply and divide integers, squares, cubes and roots, multiples and factors, rounding, decimals);

Expressions & Functions (simplifying, constructing expressions, and expanding brackets);

Shapes (Constructing arc and triangle, bisector, congruency, symmetry and drawing nets);

Measurement (metric units, area, volume and capacity, imperial units with estimations); and

Data Collection (discrete and continuous data, frequency table, averages and ranges).

These contents are all underpinned by problem solving which provides a structure for the application of mathematical skills. Besides that, mental strategies are also a key part of all the covered topics.

Science (Mrs. Nellie Wong & Mr. John Foo)

Biology: At the beginning of this term, students will be learning about plants and animal nutrition. The need of plants for carbon dioxide, water and light for photosynthesis, and transportation in plants will be learned. Students will be studying different types of nutrient in food and their function, and the effects of deficiencies (lacking certain nutrients) to the human body too. Lastly, students will be exposed to the organs and functions of the alimentary canal (digestive system), and the function of enzymes in digestion.

Chemistry: Students will be building on their previous knowledge of the particle theory of matter

to explain the properties of solids, liquids and gases. They will be further developing their

knowledge of changes of state, gas pressure and diffusion as well.

Physics: Students will be studying about forces and magnets. They will be building on their previous knowledge of the effects of forces on movement to develop their knowledge of speed including interpreting simple distance-time graphs. Besides, they will be exposed later to magnetic force including the properties of magnet, magnetic field, electromagnets and their application.

Business Studies (Mr. Chris Rodrigues)

In the Autumn term students will investigate how the Marketing and Research and Development departments work by producing a new chocolate bar for a specific target audience. They will need to explore the full process and fabricate the same process for their new product. They will design a questionnaire and interview potential customers. Using the information they receive, students will then design a new chocolate bar, adding a new name, ingredients, promotion, slogans and logos.

Geography (Mr. Chris Rodrigues)

In the first part of the Autumn term - students will be studying the topic of ‘Glaciers and Glaciation’

Students will be studying various themes such as : What are glaciers made of and how do they form? What is the difference between an ice sheet and a mountain glacier? Where would I see glaciers on Earth today? Where would I have seen glaciers in Britain, 20 000 years ago and wow do glaciers shape the land they flow over?

Students will also be looking at how some of the following features of glaciers are formed such as : corries, arêtes, pyramidal peaks, U-shaped valleys, hanging valleys? As well as trying to identify them from OS maps. Students will finally complete a mini assessment based on research where they look at ways that glaciers benefit humans?

In the second part of the Spring Term students will be studying ‘Our Warming Planet’ — Topics covered in this unit will look at the changes in temperature of the planet since the last ice age, the difference between climate change and global warming, how climate change will affect the world, how climate change will affect the UK, what greenhouse gases are and why should we be concerned, how burning fossil fuel impacts other countries, carbon emissions and how to reduce them, finishing on our own individual roles and responsibilities in reducing them.

History (Mr. Martyn Keys and Ms. Syilawati Saaidin)

At the beginning of this term, students shall be concluding work on the Suffragettes. Pupils will then move onto an in depth study of the causes of WWI. Pupils will explore concepts such as rising tensions in Europe, the naval race and the growing strain on relationships between the main powers in Europe. Pupils will focus on the skills of source analyses and extended writing.

Mandarin Advanced (Ms.Soon Saw Imm) This term, the lessons will focus on the students’ descriptive writing, especially flashback writing skills. They will also learn how to rearrange the outlines of their essays to achieve the flashback writing purpose. Through these lessons, they will improve their narrative ability by appreciating some good essays and practice. They will also be encouraged to read more Mandarin story books. At the end of the term, students will be able to write compositions of around 400 words.

Mandarin Intermediate (Mrs. Pang Sook Yee)

Students will be learning the language for the purpose of practical communication in daily life. This term, the students will focus on the topics ‘house layout’ and ‘room and furniture’. The students will use brainstorming techniques as well as creating mind maps to further enhance their creativity in terms of writing skills. This will enable them to also look at the construction of compound and complex sentences in their writing. The students will also be exposed to descriptive texts which are theme-based and the subsequent grammar and vocabulary will be related to this. Listening and speaking skills will be improved through the use of the ‘Chinese Made Easy CD’. Students will be expected to write 60-80 words using appropriate vocabulary and sentence structures.

Mandarin Extra (Mrs. Pang Sook Yee)

This term, the students will focus on the topics ‘ambition’ and ‘food’. They will use mind maps to further enhance their creativity in terms of writing skills. This will enable them to also look at the construction of compound and complex sentences in their writing. Spelling tests will help them to memorize and become more familiar with the vocabularies more. The students will also be exposed to descriptive texts which are theme-based and the subsequent grammar and vocabulary will be related to this. Listening and speaking skills will be improved through access to the ‘littlefoxchinese’ website. Students will be expected to write 60-80 words using appropriate vocabulary and sentence structures.

Bahasa Malaysia (Mrs. Rabiahtul Bazariah and Mrs.Pattmagowri)

The themes for this term include ‘Keluarga Kreatif’, ‘Sekolahku’ and ‘Sentiasa berhemah, semua selamat’. The main objective is for students to acquire balanced proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking. New vocabulary will be introduced from time to time to enhance their foundation in grammar, reading comprehension, conversation and essay writing. In addition, they will also learn the language by reading newspapers, educational articles and academic papers. During lessons, students will be exposed to three major components throughout the semester: Essay writing (Penulisan), Reading Comprehension (Pemahaman) and Grammar (Tatabahasa). In addition, such lessons will also help students to improve their presentation skills through essay writing and oral presentations.

EAL (Ms. Nurin Najmina)

This term, we will be focusing on how to use different phrases to thank/explain/invite/apologise/suggest, ways to differentiate between ‘too ‘and ‘enough’ and identify different text purposes. The students are going to look for the definitions of different compound words, demonstrate the differences between ‘will’ and ‘going to’, interview one another and answer reading comprehension questions. Through role-plays, games and presentations, students will brush up their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Weekly spelling test will also be carried out so that the students can practise new vocabularies and use them in writing sentences and also speaking.

Sejarah (Mrs. Rabiahtul Bazariah)

This subject will incorporate project based learning, which requires students to find information on the task or topic given. This term, the students will be exposed to Malaysia and Malaysian history, society, culture, politics and economics. Students will be exposed to Appearance of Main Political Parties in Malaya, such as They will also have to prepare portfolios or PowerPoint slides to be presented during lessons. The values of ‘Straits Seven’ and ‘IDEALS’ will also be taught to them during the learning process.

Music ( Mr. Izwary Johari)

This term students will learn to perform music in different styles with increasing understanding of musical devices, processes and contextual influences. Students will work individually and in groups of different sizes and become increasingly aware of the different roles and contributions of each member of the band. Students will also explore the main rhythmic musical features and devices used in African music, particularly the African drumming tradition of West Africa. Students will learn about different drum strokes used in drumming.

Drama (Ms. Sharmila Kana)

This term students will be studying key aspects of global theatre (with an emphasis on the ancient

European and Asian civilisations) and a study of the continuum of evolution in theatre to

contemporary forms. Students will pay close attention to the narrative structure and take on roles

and analyses themselves. They will practise theatre devices that were popular in various

civilisations, and still are today: choral speaking, synchronised movement, exaggeration and mime.

The history of theatre will be explored as well as its spaces, in addition to performance. After the

half term, students will participate in a series of lessons which explore the themes inherent in

classical and contemporary theatre such as persecution, love, challenges and endings.

ICT (Mrs Haniza Hussin) During this term, students will learn two main topics: Finding and Presenting Information and Web Design and Creation. For the Presenting Information topic they will focus more on case studies involving fake information published on websites and evaluate them. They will be asked to identify and evaluate some of the famous wiki sites and evaluate the content in those sites. For the Web Designing topic, students are exposed to HTML tags and CSS tags. Students are expected to use software to create a basic website. They will also explore some advanced level software and programming languages for website designing. Art and Design (Mohd Shahrul Hasfis)

This term, students will learn about drawing and painting based on the Egyptian art style. For the first half term, they will learn about drawing by using a variety of different media and styles. They will experiment with different types of hieroglif drawings and will develop new skills by copying the style of other Egyptian art styles. For the next term, they will learn about water colour painting and focus on specific and various styles and techniques. Other than that, they will recap about art critics in order to create a story of their work, improve their ideas and improve their weaknesses.

Physical Education (Mr.Vinod,Mr.Jack,Mr.Dennis,Ms.Emily)

This term students will be doing Fitness Unit where there will be different types of Fitness activities involved such as Multistage Fitness test,Dare Dice in Pairs,Cooper Runs and so on.Students will be challenging themselves to improve their fitness level and components of Fitness such as endurance,stamina,strength,flexibility and body composition.Students will be also involved in Net & Wall Games (Badminton)which will test their fitness level and spatial awareness. (COVID SOP)

Unfortunately due to the Covid SOP we will have to do the modified range activities inside the classroom with proper distance and a safe environment.

PHSE/Moral Studies (Form Tutor)

For this term, students will learn The meaning of Ar-Risalah, how Allah swt communicate with his servants through His messengers also known as prophets as well as The important role of Angle Jibreel a.s. Students will get change to learn about 25 prophets in Islam and with their history and contribution to Islam. They will be explained what Revealed Books and which prophet got the books.

Islamic Studies (Mrs. Rabiahtul Bazariah / Mr. Sharul)

For this term, students will learn The meaning of Ar-Risalah, how Allah swt communicate with his servants through His messengers also known as prophets as well as The important role of Angle Jibreel a.s.
