GIBRALTAR:• Gibraltar is a British overseas territory under the sovereignty

of the United Kingdom.• It was handed to Britain in the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713.• Gibraltar is located east of the Bay of Algeciras and extends

over the geological formation of the rock of Gibraltar.• It has a population of about 30,000 inhabitants in an area of

less than 7 km ², based on a service sector economy.

BILINGUALISM:• It took place a research on the habits and attitudes of young

Gibraltarians. The results confirmed that the Spanish used more in informal interactions among family, neighbors and friends. Moreover, English is used in the educational context, especially when students are directed to teachers.

MOST HISTORICAL BUILDINGS IN GIBRALTAR:

• Despite not being too large , the area has important architectural remains worthy to behold.

• For example : Casemates Gate , which leads to the pretty Casemates Square .

The official residence of the Governor of Gibraltar from 1728 is known as the Convent .

On Main Street is the Cathedral of St. Mary the Crowned .

Entering Gibraltar is one of the first landmarks , the Castle of Muslim origin.
