Page 68: Enhancing the Spa Experience with Essential Oils Marty Harger – Owner/Massage Therapist Balance – Therapeutic Massage and Wellness Center.

Step 3 – Massage Guideline

• Begin at base of neck under chin and stroke up to top of ear.

• Start at jaw and move our hands to corner of the mouth; to the corner of the nose; cheekbone; then up to the temple and middle of forehead.

• Make a circle from inner corners of the eyes and under your eyes.

• Massage above upper lip to outside of the mouth. • Stroke forehead upward to hairline. • Massage head by gently tapping the head all over,

stimulating circulation. Rub along the scalp and gently move scalp over the head. Gently tug on hair from the roots to relieve muscle tension.

Page 69: Enhancing the Spa Experience with Essential Oils Marty Harger – Owner/Massage Therapist Balance – Therapeutic Massage and Wellness Center.

Step 4 – Steam Guidelines

• Steam after cleanse, scrub and face massage. • Steam face by draping a towel over head and a

large bowl to catch the steam or use a store bought steamer. Hold face over steam about 12 inches away from water – warning hot – relax for 10 minutes with eyes closed.

• Rinse with cool water or massage with ice cold cloth.

For very dry or sensitive skin use a hot compress as an alternative to steam. Immerse washcloth in hot water with essential oil, wring out, apply to face and repeat as cloth cools.
