Living our Faith

Thank you to everyone who has, or who is going to, have your photo taken for the directory. It is shockingly helpful for us all to put a face to a name and get to know each other.

We are excited to let you know that Epiphany and the Gateway Science Academy recently finalized a 10 year exten-sion on the lease of our school building. This means that the school will be with us at least until 2030. We are thrilled to have the school and its families as a part of our neighborhood community.

If you are interested in helping with hospitality after the 10:30 am Mass, we're looking for a new team or two to help make and serve the coffee. It's a very easy commitment. You'd be on the schedule once a month or so, only need to be about 10 minutes early for Mass to get the coffee started, and then hang around after for the coffee hour. If you're inter-ested let me know.

The Pro-Life Convention is coming up. If you're interested it is well worth attending.

Mass Explanations – The Anamnesis

Anamnesis is a Greek word we translate as “remember”. When we refer to the Anamnesis in the Mass, it is to the words of Our Lord to, “Do this in remembrance of me.” We might interpret that phrase as referring to an event that happened long ago, but the Mass is not merely a memorial of a long ago event, so this is not just an invitation to reminisce. JRR Tol-kien describes how the elves in Lord of the Rings have this type of memory: “Indeed I have heard that for them memory is more like the waking world than to a dream.” This is the memory of the Church in the liturgy; not a dream of the dis-tant past but a present and active moment that belongs here and now in our waking world.

This is why St. Paul writes ,”The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?” In the Passover meal, the Jewish people considered that they were, so to speak, becoming time travelers and going back to that first Passover. They understood that God contin-ued to save them, so not only do they go back but the event itself travels forwards in time to meet them.

So, when we hear those words “Do this in remembrance of me,” we hear them as the first disciples did; as words that take us directly to the foot of the Cross and bring the Cross forward into the present, right here on our altar. This is a turning point in time; it has become the end and the beginning, and right there at the heart of it is the profound revela-tion that God becomes everything.

In addition to your complimentary 8x10, you will have an opportunity to purchase additional portraits on the day of your portrait session. Lifetouch’s portrait price lists are available in the vestibule for those would like them prior to photography. Any family placing an order will receive $30 in free products at Shutterfly.com!

When you bring a canned/dry good food item in on photography day, those items will be donated to our Parish Food Pantry and you will receive a $5 off your order, should you choose to order additional portraits.

Be sure to take advantage of the opportunity to be professionally photographed. We are looking forward to seeing you in our directory. I am encouraging 100% participation!

P.S. Your photography session will take about an hour, during which time you will check-in, be photographed and view your portraits.

Another Look at Abortion Read the full version at usccb.org/abortion. If someone takes an innocent person’s life after he or she is born, it’s against the law; before birth (even minutes before, in most states), it’s legal because of the U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Abortion results in the death of a child. For many, abortion causes severe and long-lasting emotional, psycholog-ical, and spiritual trauma, and other detrimental effects have also been documented. (For help, visit www.HopeAfterAbortion.org) So what are we to do? The church does not approach difficult pregnancy decisions with a false “either/or” mentality, pitting mother against child. We love them both! Learn more at www.usccb.org/abortion.

Marriage: Love and Life In The Divine Plan: A Natural and Spiritual Blessing “While marriage is a special blessing for Christians because of the grace of Christ, marriage is also a natural blessing and gift for everyone in all times and cultures. It is a source of blessing to the couple, to their families, and to society and includes the wondrous gift of co-creating human life.” To read the document go to http://www.usccb.org/loveandlife/.

Our parish’s senior ministry, Lindenwood Area Senior Ministry (LASM), is seeking your partic-ipation in a community survey to aid the min-istry in determining its next steps! LASM's mission, in keeping with the ministry of Christ, seeks to enhance the quality of life of senior adults by providing meaningful volunteer experiences, services and programs that promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and safety. You can par-ticipate by heading to our website: www.lasministry.org and clicking on the gold banner at the top of the webpage.
