Murders in the southern US state of Texas and Brazil’s largest city Sao Paolo have

also made a big impact on the news. Shocking TV images of the murders of two

4: ___ in the Bras district of the city have led to the arrest of eight policemen. The

police have been accused of doing nothing to stop the teenage killings. While in

Texas, a white racist organisation – The Aryan Brotherhood – is being blamed for

the 5: ___ of a 63 year-old lawyer and his wife in their home. It is the third

murder this year that has been blamed on the white racist group.

Severe economic problems on the small, divided Mediterranean island of Cyprus

also continue to worry 6: ___ living there. The Republic of Cyprus is pleading for

a €10 billion bail-out to stop their economy from collapsing. However, to receive

this money from the European Union and the International 7: ___ Fund, the

Cypriot government must also raise €6 billion through extra taxes. The

government’s plan is to charge up to 60% on bank savings. So, if you have

€100,000 in the bank, you would lose €60,000 because of the new tax and this

decision has worried many 8: ___ people with life savings.

Our final stop concerns perhaps one of the greatest living people in the world,

the former South African President and 9: ___ rights campaigner, Nelson

Mandela. 94 year-old Mr Mandela is in hospital suffering from pneumonia, the

second time he has been in hospital this year. Mr Mandela won the Nobel Peace

Prize in 1993 for his struggle to 10: ___ discrimination against non-white people

in South Africa.
