FROM THE PRINCIPAL

FOOD POLICY

Last week there was an incident at school that reminded us to remain vigilant and follow school policy. One of our

very young students suffered an anaphylactic episode. Let me begin by saying that the child is alright due in a big

part to our staff who administered the medication and contacted the ambulance, who arrived very quickly and

transported the child to hospital to ensure recovery was complete. The parents were contacted and met their child

at the hospital. A teacher accompanied the child to the hospital. The result could have been much more serious if

everyone was not as vigilant in their reactions. We have a number of anaphylactic students at our school and it is

timely to remind parents of our policy.

1. We have a nut minimization approach and encourage parents not to send nuts or nut based products to

school with their children.

2. Children are not to share food with other students, under any circumstances. Please remind your children

of this and explain why we have this rule.

3. Always check with the class teacher before bringing in food for a special occasion.

We really would appreciate your cooperation with this.

DEBATE SUCCESS

I indicated in our last newsletter that our Year 5 Debating Team was in the final of the Debating Competition. It is

with great pleasure that I can report that they were victorious on the evening. They were awarded with the Roy

Sadlier Trophy which recognises the outstanding Year 5 Debating Team in the local area. I would like to

congratulate all of the team members, the parents who came along to support them at the final and of course Miss

Shon, who has coached the team throughout the year. Well done everyone.

SCHOOL BEHAVIOUR FOCUS

Let me say our students have been very good in moving safely around the school and focusing on not running on

the asphalt when it is dangerous and not running inside the buildings. We will expand our focus on moving safely

around the school and request students to be careful when moving in and out of doorways or at congestion points

and keeping to the left when using stairs or moving in confined spaces.

NEWS FROM THE P&C

P&C Calendar - Term 4 2019 Tuesday 12 November (Week 5) - P&C Annual General Meeting from 6.30-8:00pm (Staff Room) Tuesday 10 December (Week 9) – P&C Meeting from 6:30pm (Staff Room) P&C Contacts President - Jong Chung - [email protected] V/President - Marissa Kelly - [email protected] Secretary - Sarah O'Neill - [email protected] Treasurer - Amandeep Sidhu - [email protected] P&C Annual General Meeting The next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 12 November and will include the AGM where all Office Bearers and Committee Coordinators are elected. The P&C are seeking expressions of interest from parents/guardians who would like to join the P&C and get more involved in the school. Joining the P&C is a great way to get involved in the school life of your child. The P&C via the various committee members and volunteers, works with the school to run the Canteen, Uniform Shop, Band, Fundraising activities and Language Classes. Each year the P&C loses parents as their children move onto high school and we need new parents to take their place. Please consider taking up one of these positions as the P&C cannot operate unless the positions are filled. All roles are available for nomination at the AGM. Non-executive roles can be shared so consider joining forces with a friend. These are not full-time jobs. Some of the roles are only 1 hour per week or have peak activities once a term. Some roles are flexible in the hours so these can be done by working parents. We would love to have these roles filled this year so that there is plenty of time to handover before 2020. If you would like to get more involved in the P&C, or have any questions, please feel free to contact the P&C Secretary, Sarah O'Neill at [email protected] or any of the current P&C committee members. 2020 P&C Roles Executive Positions:

Parents and Citizen’s Association (P&C) The P&C is a group of parents who volunteer their time to support the school in different ways, and coordinate a number of school activities, social and fundraising events. P&C meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month (term time only) at 6:30pm in the school staffroom. This is a great way to find out about what is happening in the school, and hear an update from our Principal Mr Ford. The P&C executive includes the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. In addition, a parent or group of parents coordinates the following areas:

Uniform Shop The P&C has appointed a uniform supplier to run the school uniform shop. Reji Uniforms can be contacted for orders and enquiries. Details of the days, dates and times Reji Uniforms are onsite at the school can be found in the weekly newsletter/ Email: [email protected] Phone: 02 9771 5454 Website: www.rejiuniforms.com.au

Canteen

The school canteen is currently open on Wednesdays and Fridays and is staffed entirely by volunteers. We always need new volunteers for the canteen roster. Mums, dads and grandparents are all welcome to help and your availability can be accommodated e.g. Once a week/month/term/year. It is a great opportunity to meet other parents and your child will love seeing you helping at school. Canteen volunteer hours are from 8:50am – 12:30pm. The canteen coordinator can be contacted at [email protected]. Lunch orders can only be made online and this requires setting up an account at www.flexischools.com.au . The canteen menu can be viewed on this website.

Social The P&C runs a number of social events throughout the year to encourage the development of a friendly and welcoming school community. In 2020 we need some new coordinators for the social team who will be supported by others who have undertaken the role previously. Some annual social events include: Tea and Tissues Morning Tea – this will be held for Kindy parents after they drop off their child on the first day of Kindy P&C Welcome Barbecue – all school families are invited to attend a Friday evening barbecue early in 2020. The details of this event will be advertised in the school newsletter. Staff Thank You Lunch – at the end of the year the P&C asks parents to help provide a lunch to thank the hard working school staff. Parent Morning Teas are held regularly throughout the year, usually once or twice a term immediately after school begins at 9:20am. These are all advertised in the school newsletter and the P&C always needs assistance in helping to coordinate these events. The social team also coordinates: Class Parents – each class in the school has a parent who volunteers to be the point of contact between the teacher, P&C and class. It mainly involves emailing information to parents. The P&C also encourages parents to coordinate social events for the class such as a picnic at a local park or parent dinner outside school hours.
