Page 4: Erasmus National Meeting 2016 - Survival Guide

Dear friends,

I couldn’t be happier to welcome you to our national event where I am completely sure that you cherish and remember for the rest of your life! The Erasmus National Meeting or ENM is already on its 12th edi-tion and every year we grow and improve what we’ve done in the past so that we keep evolving. Every year we use the feedback of former participants to make it even more appealing and a place where you feel at home and in a family among the friends that went you and the one you create during these amazing 4 days.Algarve one of the most amazing places in the world and Portugal is lucky to have it and since you are here for such a short amount of time, we gladly get to work to join exchange students from all around the country. Prepare yourself to get to know so many people from so many countries that you will have to carry a notebook to remember their names and nationalities but above all, enjoy it!Take this event as part of this amazing journey and life changing period that you are currently on and use it to create more unfor-gettable moments in Portugal.Thank you for picking Portugal as your exchange country and for trusting in us and now just sit back, relax and enjoy everything that we’ve prepared for you!

All the best,João Costa

(president of ESN Portugal)

LAGOS

Lagos is an amazing town in the western Algarve, full of historical interest, with its origins dating as far back as 2000 years BC. It is known for its walled old town, beautiful cliffs and breathtaking Atlan-tic beaches. There are many, many things to discover in Lagos. It perfectly blends traditional Portuguese culture and beautiful beaches with top notch tourist facilities. Steep wooden steps lead you to the sandy cove of Camilo’s beach and, nearby, Ponta de Piedade offers you sweeping headland views and a cliff top lighthouse. The ornate 18th-century church, Igreja de Santo António sits across from Castelo dos Gover-nadores, a castle with a baroque facade and watchtowers. The square next to the castle is the Infante Dom Henrique square, with a statue of Prince Henry looking out to the sea. This area presents a host of activities, which range from water parks and zoos through to historic towns and challenging hiking trails. It is a rare tourist destination that has managed to retain its Portuguese heritage, where the town’s center is charmingly preserved.
