Principal’s Message
Welcome back to Term Four, I hope everyone had a good
break and a chance to shake off the last of the winter colds
and flu. This term already looks as full as the last three so
we will be busy right up to the Christmas break.
Stage Two spend the first three days of term at the Great
Aussie Bush camp participating in a range of fun activities
while developing their skills around independence,
resilience and team work. It was great to be able to follow
their daily adventures on the school Facebook page. I’d
really like to thank the Stage 2 teachers for providing this
opportunity for their students.
This week is Gratitude week at Beresford Road PS where
classes will have time to reflect on things they are grateful
for – this is a wonderful initiative from the SRC with the
support of Mrs Carruthers and Mr Tang. Classes will be
adding ‘grateful’ stones to the garden outside the school
office and families will have the opportunity to contribute
towards buying uniforms for less fortunate families in our
community. Thank you to those who have already helped
out!
There are still a few places left in the Swimming Scheme for
students in Years 2 and 3. The scheme is held for 2 weeks
each year and is targeted at kids who need to improve their
confidence around water. Australia has a culture of beach
life and swimming and everyone needs to have at least
basic water safety skills to improve their confidence around
pools. Please consider sending your child if there are still
developing their swimming skills. Contact the office for
further details.
Mrs Longe is taking the choir to perform at the Sydney
Town Hall this weekend, the Year 5 students hoping to be
part of the student leadership in 2020 will have speeches on
30 October and the K-2 Athletics carnival is on the 5
November. I wish every success to these groups.
Our first Kindergarten Orientation session for 2020 will be
Monday 4 November. If you aware of any families that are
yet to enrol for 2020, please ask them to do so quickly as
places are limited at this stage.
I am grateful to be the principal of such a wonderful school
where students continue to perform well in NAPLAN testing,
have wonderful extracurricular opportunities and work with
teachers who are innovative and caring. I am grateful that we
have a fantastic community who support the school and our
programs. As we celebrate gratitude week, it would be a
great chance for you to reflect on all the wonderful things
that you and your family are grateful for.
Regards,
David Leydon

The Buzz-Term 4 Week 2 Tuesday 22nd October 2019
Last week Year 3 & 4 students attended the Great Aussie Bush Camp and boy did they have fun! So much time spent outdoors
and lots of challenging activities. From camp fires at night, to big breakfasts and chanting through the bush, our kids had the
time of their lives.
The giant swing is always a hit, I can hear the laughter and screams from the other side of the camp. I think the kids have
officially named it ‘the wedgie swing’! The rock wall is always a good challenge yet our kids jump on with excitement and some
even make it to the top. They did the high ropes course and climbed through the trees finishing on the flying fox. I like the way
the kids cheer each other on and get right into the spirit of the activity, it brings such a great vibe to camp.
The Great Aussie Bush Camp Year 3 & 4
Archery was fun, and I must say, we were pretty good at it, with some kids hitting the target and the others cheering with
enthusiasm. Canoeing was great, capsizing looked like even more fun! The mud run was as messy as it sounds and gee did they
love getting dirty. The slide right into the mud was the centre of many laughs.

Bush craft is always a great experience, building a shelter, sitting around a camp fire and eating damper. They really got their creative juices going building a raft, while enjoying the beautiful view. The snow cones seemed to be a great hit as was the ice cream for dessert.
I love that our teachers always get involved, from swinging down the flying fox, to capsizing a boat, or scaring the kids by
jumping out of bushes. We are lucky that we have teachers that get involved, make it fun and organise such an awesome
camp for our students, thanks teachers!
Our Students loved bunking with other students and so many new friendships were formed. Camp is a great experience for
students to develop their self-confidence, meet new people and try new things. I think all of our students did this while hav-
ing the time of their lives, I’m sure they will talk about it for years to come.

The Buzz-Term 4 Week 2 Tuesday 22nd October 2019
This week, we are promoting an attitude of gratitude across the entire school community.
Teachers are intentionally showing gratitude and providing activities and learning opportunities for stu-
dents in this area throughout the week.
The SRC is asking students to write words of gratitude on pebbles for our gratitude garden. You can
view this garden after this week next to the entrance to the front office.
Parents are encouraged to talk about gratitude with their family and are invited to donate towards a
uniform fund for BRPS students in need. You can donate cash tomorrow morning or pay online using
the title ‘Gratitude Week.’ Thank you to those who have supported this cause so far.
