Principal Report
Welcome back to Term Three! I’m really excited to be back
in my role as principal of Beresford Road Public School
after 12 months acting as Director, Educational Leadership
for the Carlingford network of schools. I’ve learnt a lot
being a part of around 60 schools in the last couple of
years that will help us to continue to improve outcomes
for students at BRPS. I’d like to thank Mrs Pearson and
Mrs Pazzinga for their excellent work in leading the school
in my absence.
I’ve returned at a really busy time with our 50th
anniversary concert at the high school next week, followed
by the primary athletics carnival on Thursday, as our way
to celebrate Education Week. The theme for 2019
Education Week is Every student, every voice. It is a
celebration of student empowerment and how the NSW
public education system gives students the skills they need
in order to have and express a voice during their own
educational journey and as engaged global citizens. We
then move straight into bookweek, the character parade
and Grandparent’s Day in August. One of the things I have
missed about Beresford Road is how busy we are
providing our students this a range of rich experiences to
ensure a quality well-rounded education.
I would like to welcome Ms Obsioma as the new Assistant
Principal for our support classes. We were able to
negotiate a start date of Monday 5 August (Week 3). Ms
Obsioma joins us as a staff member from her current
position as relieving Assistant Principal at the Hills School
and as a teacher on the support classes at Parramatta
West PS. She has quality experiences as a specialist
teacher for additional needs students and as a leader.
know you will all make Ms Obsioma feel welcome and join
me in thanking Mrs Hall for the great work she has done
with MCH and the school as a whole. We wish her well as
she moves onto a new role in the Department of
Education. I would also like to thank Mr Zielonka for
relieving as Assistant Principal Support for Semester 1.

library on Monday 19th August, Grandparents Day, to have a look at our selection of
books.

Our Book Character Parade will be held on Tuesday 20th August, at 11.30am in the 3-6
Quad. The theme this year is ‘Who is Your Favourite Author’? Children are encouraged to
dress up as their favourite book character (fiction or non-fiction). Costumes can be picked
up at quite reasonable prices from a range of shops including the Reject Shop, Spotlight, K
-Mart and Target but we are just as delighted with the many creative costumes put to-
gether by parents each year. Staff at Beresford Road always have a lot of fun dressing up
and are already preparing their costumes for the day. Pre-schoolers attending the parade
are also encouraged to dress up and participate in their own parade after all classes have
finished. Older siblings will be allowed to collect pre-schoolers from their parents and
walk them around the parade circle.
Prizes will be given by the teachers for the most creative costume for each class!!!

Nationally consistent collection of data on school students with disability – 2019
Our school is participating in the collection of nationally consistent data on school students with disability.
We will be collecting information already available in the school about the support that is being provided to students with disability. Better data will help the Government plan for students with disability.
The data collection will have no direct impact on your child and they will not be involved in any testing process.
The NSW Department of Education and Communities will provide data to the Australian Government from all NSW public schools in such a way that no individual student or school will be able to be identified. In this way, we will ensure the privacy and confidentiality of all students.
All information is protected by privacy laws which regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. Information about the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy can be found here: http://education.gov.au/condensed-privacy-policy. Information about the NSW Government’s privacy policies can be found here: http://www.ipc.nsw.gov.au/
If you do not want your child to be counted in the data collection please speak to the school principal by the end Term 2, 2019. A decision to exclude your child will not affect the support they currently receive.
Further information about the data collection can be found on the Australian Government Department of Education web-site:
http://education.gov.au/nationally-consistent-collection-data-school-students-disability
If you have any questions about your child being included in the data collection please contact the school.
If you need help with English to make an enquiry contact the Telephone Interpreter Service on 131 450 and ask for an interpreter in your language. The operator will call the number you provide and get an interpreter on the line to assist you with your conversation. You will not be charged for this service.
School Voluntary Contribution Payment Dear Parents/Care Givers
The NSW Government allows each school in the state to request from each family an amount of money to help pay for
the many consumable items used by children every day (exercise books, stationery, scrapbooks, photocopying, visual
art supplies etc.) and a number of on-line subscriptions. The money can also help support programs and projects that
the school community determines as necessary in the school. (eg. Equipment for the dance program or books for the
library).
The voluntary contribution amount will remain the same as last year, which is $45.00 for one student, $70.00 for two
students or $90.00 per family. I stress that payment of the general school contribution is a matter for decision by
individual parents and caregivers and is entirely voluntary.
Payments can be made either by cash or by POP.

The uniform shop will have a price increase beginning September 1st. This will be our first price increase since 2015. The price changes will be consistent regardless if the purchase is made online or in store. New price lists will be posted and available on September 2nd.
We are happy to announce we have a new payment system in store which enables the use of credit and debit cards, whether they be contactless, swipe or chip activated cards. The credit/debit facility will be active from Tuesday Septem-ber 3rd. We expect the process to run smoothly and we hope many customers happy with the new credit/debit card
