    Dear Elementary School Parents,

First of all, thank you to all those parents who completed our

annual parent survey. The information provided is very

important to us in our continued efforts to make our Elemen-

tary School at ISM the best possible learning environment for

your children. Also, a reminder that any time throughout the

year, we are very open to meeting with any parents who have

concerns, for problem solving, and to also hear all the positive

things that are happening with your children.

With only three weeks remaining, we have one more parent

bulletin before the end of the school year. A reminder that

report cards are distributed on Tuesday, June 1st, 2010. We

are currently in the process of redeveloping the report card,

which will be shared with you in the first semester of the next

school year. You will also have access to who your childs

teacher will be from the last day of school on June 4th.

School holidays are almost here! This is a special time of year for many children. A chance to stay outside and playall day. Or so it used to be. Many children will spend these holidays indoors no doubt watching television andplaying computer games. These can both be entertaining and educational, but moderation is the key and theseindoor pursuits should not be at the expense of all other activity, especially regular physical activity. It is importantfor the social and physical development of children to learn to play and engage in a wide variety of physical pur-suits. Children who do not physically play on a regular basis are slow to cross the proficiency barrier of funda-

mental motor skills. Some children and adults only cross this barrier in only one or two of the fundamental motorskills and are more likely to become inactive adults. These fundamental motor skills include run, vertical jump, kick, punt, overhand throw, catch, leap, dodge, ball bounce, forehand strike and two hand side-arm strike. Mostchildren are capable of crossing this proficiency barrier between the ages of 8 11 years of age, providing they areactive on a regular basis. The average time required to master each fundamental motor skill is between 240 - 500minutes. Physical education lessons will expose children to all of these skills. However, physical education lessonstwo or three times a week does not provide adequate rehearsal time for many of todays increasingly inactive chil-dren. AS PE educators we need your support. A child that crosses this proficiency barrier possesses mature move-ment patterns for the above mentioned skills. Once children cross this barrier they are ready to move onto thegame skills involved in almost any sport. Encouraging your child to be physically active this summer will certainlyhelp them develop their motor skills and set the stage for an active lifestyle. The physical emotional and mentalhealth benefits of an active lifestyle are well documented.

This is probably the easiest homework you may ask of your children! Are your children receiving their daily doseof exercise?

    Thanks,

There is a WITHDRAWALNOTIFICATION FORM for such purpose; this must be sub-mitted to the Admissions Office on or before 15th May of eachschool year. Failure to do so will lead to a deduction ofUS$1,000 from the Facilities Upgrade Deposit (FUD), incompensation for having held a space for the child and thuspreventing the School from offering that space to another childprior to the summer holiday break.

From the Superintendentrom the SuperintendentCHANGE IN PROCEDURE

Dear Parents:Every year we have to deal with the administrative burden of try-ing to collect from parents the $1000 Re-enrollment Deposit. Thisis difficult for many parents, especially those whose fees are paid

by the sponsoring company, and more difficult still for the schooltrying to collect from parents, especially those who are not sure oftheir circumstances.

This year we shall try something different. There will be no re-enrollment deposit. Instead, we shall expect all departing fami-

lies to complete the WITHDRAWAL NOTIFICATION

FORM on or before May 15th

. Failure to do so will lead to a

deduction of $1,000.00 from the Facilities Upgrade Deposit.

As I am sure you understand, we at school face considerable pres-

sure from families applying to enter their children into ISM. Wehave to establish the May 15th deadline in order for us to be fair tothose families on our waitlist. The earlier you can tell us that youare leaving school, the sooner we can provide clear answers toincoming families.

    Sincerely Yours,

    David TozeSuperintendent
