Esophageal Pressure Monitoring and Auxiliary Pressure

Esophageal Pressure Monitoring (EPM) has become critical in the field of ventilation, especially for the treatment of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, and as a refined lung protective ventilation strategy. With EPM and a balloon catheter probe, clinicians can verify the “real” distending pressure of the ventilated lung, the transpulmonary pressure and stress applied to the lung. Further, the calculation of transpulmonary pressure indicates where to set PEEP and inspiratory pressure,to prevent excessive tidal pressures. bellavista EPM provides all monitoring data to support the strategy and optimize patient ventilation. Easy-to-understand graphics provide immediate viewing to determine optimal patient ventilation and to easily monitor progress.

PTP/PTA

EPM offers two operating modes for transpulmonary pressure calculation. You can choose between transpulmonary and transalveolar pressure. The transalveolar pressure is calculating resistance compensated values, which are more precise, especially when the patient is breathing spontaneously. When using the transalveolar pressure you can select the tube diameter for an endotracheal or tracheostomy tube.

PAUX Indicator During esophageal or auxiliary pressure monitoring, an icon will constantly indicate the use of an additional pressure measurement.

AnimatedLung

As graphical support, theAnimatedLung shows positiveor negative transpulmonarypressure parameters duringmandatory ventilation. Whenend-expiratory transpulmonary pressure is positive, the AnimatedLung will show a green border around the lung.

When end-expiratory pressure is negative, the AnimatedLung will show an orange border around the lung to indicate potential de-recruitment of the patient’s lung.
