We, the news crew of Kyemon Daily, proceededto the west bank of Ayeyawady River leavingMyathalun. While passing Ayeyawady Bridge(Magway), we enjoyed breeze and fresh air.

After turning 8.5 miles drive west from Pathein-Monywa Road, we arrived at Kyeeohn-kyeewa Multi-purpose Dam Project near Mone Creek.

From the top place of the embankment, we sawthe aerial view of the dam project with the construc-tion of spillway on the left side, the power station andthe power intake structure on the right side.

Staff Officer U Chit Lwin and Head of Department(Embankment) U Thein Myint of Construction 3 ofIrrigation Department explained facts about the dam.

Implementation of Kyeeohn-kyeewa Multi-pur-pose Dam Project which is located near Wunlo Village,five miles upstream of Mezali Diversion Weir inPwintbyu Township and 15 miles downstream ofMonechaung Dam commenced in 2002-2003 financialyear.

The facility will store water from Mone Creek foragricultural purpose and generate hydropower andcarry out greening tasks in the region.

On such a night as this, the fullmoonday of Tazaungmone, Rajagaha KingAjatasattu went in royal state to Jevaka’smango grove where the all-EnlightenedBuddha was residing. He requested theBuddha to deliver a sermon. The Buddhadiscoursed on the Samaphata Sutta, theblessings of being ordained.

Shortly after hearing the discourseon the benefits of being ordained, KingAjatasattu had come to strongly believe inand uphold the three objects of veneration,the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha. Basedon the deliverance of the discourse on theSamaphata Sutta, the fullmoon day ofTazaungmone is called Samaphata SuttaDay.

Moreover, from the time of theBuddha to the present day, Kathina robes-offering ceremonies have been held duringthe month of Tazaungmone by theBuddhists. The monks who have receivedKathina robes can have the five Kathinaresults. The donors will have the benefits ofdonation as well.

The occasion on fullmoon day ofTazaungmone is the most significant in theDhamma world. On such an occasion, theBuddhist people can enjoy blessings both atpresent and in the cycle of rebirths by hearingthe discourse on the Samaphata Sutta,offering Kathina robes and doing meritoriousdeeds.

Amazon to allow giftingof Kindle e-books

SEATTLE, 20 Nov—Amazon.com Inc has begun allowingcustomers to give its Kindle e-books to others.

Before, customers could only give gift certificates to cover thecost of an e-book.

To receive a Kindle e-book gift, the recipient only needs an e-mail address, not necessarily a Kindle e-reader. Although the e-readerstarts at $139 for a version that can wirelessly download contentover Wi-Fi, Amazon also offers a number of free applications thatcan be used to read Kindle books on gadgets such as laptops, tabletcomputers and smart phones.

Amazon also reiterated that millions are reading Kindle bookson the dedicated e-reader and on free apps. This still doesn’t give anindication of how many people have bought the Kindle — somethingwhich the Seattle-based company has never given precise detailsabout.

Swazi life expectancy ‘halved by AIDS, TB’GENEVA, 20 Nov—Twin epidemics

of AIDS and tuberculosis are ravagingSwaziland, helping to halve lifeexpectancy to 31 years, Medecins SansFrontieres said Thursday.

“The co-epidemic has contributedsubstantially to a halving of lifeexpectancy within two decades — from60 years in the 1990s to 31 in 2007,”said the Geneva-headquartered medicalcharity.

Swaziland has the highest rate ofHIV infection in the world at 26.1percent, it said, adding more than 80percent of people suffering fromtuberculosis were also infected withHIV.

It was also struggling with agrowing number of cases ofmultiresistant tuberculosis, aparticularly dangerous form of thedisease which makes up 7.7 percent ofall new cases in 2009 and 2010, thecharity said.
