He trad to the norm. The American ople appreciate the patient, skilful I tplomacy by which you opened the mar- Otl of France to the product of the Amer- leait farmer. We believe the people will estain republican principles, endorse the :• onallty of our standard bearers, and r that the wisdom of our selection at Minune- apoli will be fully demonstrated by your triumphant election at the polls in Novem- b WMr Reid, in replying to the speech, ex- Shis heartfelt sense of gratitude for Sconfidence shown and the high trust `dvolved by the nomination. He spoke of h Srepublican part as having guided the ri entry on a path of unparalleled prosper- ty with but four years interval since 180, 4 said: "A profound sense of the re- ponsibility, and a most earnest desire to g orge the trust reposed to the satiasfro- on of sixty-five millions of freemen and the best interests of the country, is the mastering emotion of the hour. Not ving sought the great honor you con- e trod, as you jeustly stated. I am the6more q pmt in saying, as a citizen and a repub- t' I shall not shrink from the duty you ve imposed." t The speaker said h acosepted and adopted Bl n f•ll the issues laid down by the Minneu - apolis platform. They were the principles ,Ider which the country attained phenom- enal prosperity and growth. Under them labor has been freed, honored and better tewarded than elsewhere. The largest ex- 1mple of equality before the law the world sa yet been has been promoted. To regret u hsee principles would be to indict the on lorions history of the nation for almost s pest third of a century. ou ad a natural leader in the eminant public servant, tlun substantial results of A. wtose wise, faitful administration has B. hed inlspiradOn for the canvass. I B, h- expected to And associated with him Ii my distinguished friend who now adorns B. the ofie of vice-president." As. however, B the party has thought wise to adhere to the B, doctrine of rotation in office, it gave the B. speaker the right to claim, not merely the C( earnest support of the united party, but the Cl best counsel, most watchful personal as- Cl sistance of all its faithful, experienced Cc leaders, to the end that this great common- CI wealth may throw a decisive vote on the Cs republican side. ID eferring to Blaine he said : "I cannot D s•upress on this occasion one word of affec- D tionate recollection for my friend in so E many presidential campaigns, the great F etateman whose present cruel bereavement, following hard on two similar blows, has H touched the tenderest sympathy of all, not H merely his political assootes, but both H parties and the whole dountry." Remarks by obeervers at varlous points are made as follows: Horr-It has been cold and wet most of the week, and crops of all kinds grow very slow. We nee. more sunshine and warm weather. Cold Springs-The past week has been blessed with numerous fine showers of rain, accompanied with light thunder and light- ning. Grain and vegetables are RrowlnR fine. Havre-'l he temperature has been below the normal during the past week, while there was an excess in precipitation. Over three inches of rain fell on the 10th and 11th. Stookmen feel better now that the hay crop is assured. Fort Buford-Heavy rainfall of the past r three days averaged half an inch each day Swas very beneficial to grass, etc. What is now needed is warm days with plenty of sunshine. Harrison-On the 10th and 11th of last week we had a rainfall of ive inches, com- inR in good time as the ground had com- menced to net dry. but now it is in splen- did condition. Crope and gras going ahead in good shape; the outlook is im- proving. Boulder-Two and two-thirds inohes of rain fell during the. past week, which will probably be the making of the bay crop, and greatly assist other crops, especially as the storm seems to be over and the weather bids fair to be warm, making fine growing weather. Bozeman-Crope are In good condition I and are growing steadily. Creeks are all full, but the comparative cool weather has C kept down any possible overflow. The rain C has come in the form of showers, except the E rain during Sunday evening and night. Helena-The temperature was about nor- E mal during the week. The maximum tem- L perature ranged between 66 and 79 degrees, C and the minimum, between 49 and 57 de- f grees, The week was very favorable for I growing. orops. The precipitation was slightly above the normal. The local shower of June 14, was very heavy, and was accompanied by thunder and lightning. Glendive-The sun cast its rays on the P earth each day during the past week, conse- quently vegetation has tended upward Very ralidly. The heavy rains in the mountain T regions, caused a sudden rise in the river of about three feet, but it soon settled back to ( the normal for this sason of the year. VIaNNA, June 21.-The marriage of Count Herbert Bismarok and Countess Margar- ethe Hoyos was solemnized this morning at the Evangelical chareh in Dorothea strasse. The weather was beautiful. Prince Bismarok was loudly cheered as he drove from Palffy palace to the church. The lit- tle church was filled with a most brilliant assembly. Count von Sohoevaloff, Russian ambassador to Germany, was the only ambassador present. There was a burst of cheering when Prince Bismarck and Count Herbert arrived. Both father and son wore the red aun treen ribbons of the Aus- trian order of St. Stephens, At 11:30 an- other burst of cheering announced the arrival of the bride, escorted by Prince Hohenlohe von Below. of the German em- bassy at Rome. As soon as the bridal party reached the altar the choir sang a ymn, after which the pastor offered prayer. The marriage ceremony was then proceeded with. As the bridal party left the church they were lustily cheered, Prince Bslmar ck especially being most warmly greeted. The party were then driven to Palify palace, SCALDED TO DEATH. Frightful Accilent on Board a New French Cruiser. BnrST, June 21,-A frightful accident oc- curred yesterday on board the new French cruiser Dupuy de Come. A trial was being made of her machinery when the head of one of the boilers was blown out and an explosion occurred in one of the coal bunkers, totally disabling the vessel. The fire hold at once filled with scalding steam and smoke, while boiling water covered the floor to the depth of several inches. 'The unfortunate stokers and engineers, im- prisoned in the hold, writhed in agony. ecalding steam filled their lungs and fall- ing to the floor they were scalded by the hot water. In agony they bit themselves and conpanions and fought and struggled together. Attempt to rescue them was met by the same frenzied resistance, they biting those who attempted to drag them out. Finally fifteen of them were taken dying to the hospital, and a number of others will undoubtedly die in a short time. FUNERAL OF EMMONS BLAINE. Frightful Accilent on Board a NewFrench Cruiser.

BnrST, June 21,-A frightful accident oc-curred yesterday on board the new Frenchcruiser Dupuy de Come. A trial was beingmade of her machinery when the head ofone of the boilers was blown out and anexplosion occurred in one of the coalbunkers, totally disabling the vessel. Thefire hold at once filled with scalding steamand smoke, while boiling water covered thefloor to the depth of several inches. 'Theunfortunate stokers and engineers, im-prisoned in the hold, writhed in agony.ecalding steam filled their lungs and fall-ing to the floor they were scalded by thehot water. In agony they bit themselvesand conpanions and fought and struggledtogether. Attempt to rescue them wasmet by the same frenzied resistance, theybiting those who attempted to drag themout. Finally fifteen of them were takendying to the hospital, and a number ofothers will undoubtedly die in a short time.
