Promise of the Seed: Gen. 17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty;1 walk before me, and be blameless, 2 that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.

17) Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”

18) And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”

19) God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.

Hebr. 11:11 By faith Sarah herself received

power to conceive, even when she was

past the age, since she considered him

faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore

from one man, and him as good as

dead, were born descendants as many

as the stars of heaven and as many as

the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.

Human Aspect – Trust / Faith 13 These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14 For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. 15 If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16

But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

Mosaic Covenant – WHEN ?

Gal. 3:17 17) This is what I mean: the law, which

came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.

What is GOOD about the

(Mosaic) Law?

Romans 7:12

So the law is holy, and the

commandment is holy and

righteous and good.

FIRST; Good for the Soul – Psalm 19

7 The law of the LORD is perfect,3

reviving the soul;

the testimony of the LORD is sure,

making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the LORD are right,

rejoicing the heart;

the commandment of the LORD is

pure, enlightening the eyes;

SECOND: It is a Warning against evil – Psalm 19

9 the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring

forever;

the rules4 of the LORD are true, and

righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold,

even much fine gold; sweeter also than

honey, and drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them is your servant

warned; in keeping them there is great

reward.

8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God.
