Promise of the Land Gen. 15
17) When the sun had gone down
and it was dark, behold, a smoking
fire pot and a flaming torch passed
between these pieces.
18) On that day the LORD made a
covenant with Abram, saying, “To
your offspring I give this land, from the
river of Egypt to the great river, the
river Euphrates,
Hebr. 11: 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when
he was called to go out to a place that
he was to receive as an inheritance.
And he went out, not knowing where
he was going. 9 By faith he went to live
in the land of promise, as in a foreign
land, living in tents with Isaac and
Jacob, heirs with him of the same
promise. 10 For he was looking forward
to the city that has foundations, whose
designer and builder is God.
Promise of the Seed: Gen. 17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty;1 walk before me, and be blameless, 2 that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.
17) Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”
18) And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”
19) God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.
Hebr. 11:11 By faith Sarah herself received
power to conceive, even when she was
past the age, since she considered him
faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore
from one man, and him as good as
dead, were born descendants as many
as the stars of heaven and as many as
the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.
Human Aspect – Trust / Faith 13 These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14 For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. 15 If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16
But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

Mosaic Covenant – WHEN ?
Gal. 3:17 17) This is what I mean: the law, which
came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.
Deut. 1:3 3) In the fortieth year, on the first day of
the eleventh month, Moses spoke to the people of Israel according to all that the LORD had given him in commandment to them,

What is GOOD about the
(Mosaic) Law?
Romans 7:12
So the law is holy, and the
commandment is holy and
righteous and good.
FIRST; Good for the Soul – Psalm 19
7 The law of the LORD is perfect,3
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the LORD is sure,
making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the LORD is
pure, enlightening the eyes;
SECOND: It is a Warning against evil – Psalm 19
9 the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring
forever;
the rules4 of the LORD are true, and
righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold; sweeter also than
honey, and drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them is your servant
warned; in keeping them there is great
reward.

commandments

God’s cultic laws – the

THIRD: It leads to Worship – Deuteronomy 27:6-8
6 you shall build an altar to the LORD
your God of uncut1 stones. And you
shall offer burnt offerings on it to the
LORD your God, 7 and you shall
sacrifice peace offerings and shall
eat there, and you shall rejoice
before the LORD your God. 8 And you
shall write on the stones all the words
of this law very plainly.”

Remembering the Sabbath Ex - Deut
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12 “‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it
holy, as the LORD your God
commanded you. 13 Six days you shall
labor and do all your work, 14 but the
seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD
your God. On it you shall not do any
work, you or your son or your daughter
or your male servant or your female
servant, or your ox or your donkey or any
of your livestock, or the sojourner who is
within your gates, that your male servant
and your female servant may rest as well
as you. 15 You shall remember that you
were a slave3 in the land of Egypt, and
the LORD your God brought you out
from there with a mighty hand and an
outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD
your God commanded you to keep the
Sabbath day.
Year of Jubilee – Sabbath Spirit
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me to
proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to
the captives and the regaining of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the
year of the Lord’s favor.”
