ETHICS – BASIC KNOWLEDGE

Ethics, also called moral philosophy, the discipline concerned with what is morally

good and bad, right and wrong. The term is also applied to any system or theory of

moral values or principles. Ethics could have come into existence only when human

beings started to reflect on the best way to live. This reflective stage emerged long

after human societies had developed some kind of morality, usually in the form of

customary standards of right and wrong conduct

ENGINEERING AS PROFESSION AND ITS ETHICS

Professions is an occupation in which an individual uses an

intellectual skill based on an established body of knowledge and

practice to provide a specialized service in a defined area,

exercising independent judgment in accordance with a code of

ethics and in the public interest.

Engineering Ethics is the study of moral issues and decisions

confronting individuals and organization engaged in engineering.

The field examines and sets the obligations by engineers to society,

to their clients, and to the profession.

RESPONSIBITIES : WHISTLE BLOWING

A whistle blower (whistle-blower or whistle blower) is a person who

exposes misconduct, alleged dishonest or illegal activity occurring in an organization.

The alleged misconduct may be classified in many ways; for example, a violation of

a law, rule, regulation and/or a direct threat to public interest, such as fraud, health

and safety violations, and corruption.
