This brochure outlines the initiatives that KRA has undertaken to promote ethical practices in its operations, including the mechanism for reporting corruption and tax evasion. It also outlines the role of stakeholders in the fight against corruption in tax payment.
Mandate
KRA is established by an Act of Parliament, Chapter 469 of the Laws of Kenya as a central body for the assessment and collection of revenue, for the administration and enforcement of the laws relating to revenue and to provide for connected purposes.

Key functions of KRA
Ø Revenue Collection and accounting (collects over 95% of government revenue).
Ø Facilitation of national and international trade.Ø Protection of society from illegal entry and exit
of prohibited goods.
How Corruption and unethical practices occur in Tax Administration
Ø KRA officers asking for bribes from taxpayers. Ø Taxpayers offering bribes to KRA officers.Ø Collusion between taxpayers and KRA staff to
reduce tax payable by agreeing to mis-declare and undervalue goods.
Ø Failure to issue ETR receipts.Ø Soliciting bribes during tax audits and
