EUROPRESS GUARANTEE

All EUROPRESS products are covered by a one year guarantee against any defects in materials or workmanship. This guarantee does not cover normal wear and tear,improper use or any applications not in compliance with our recommended instructions, or where the equipment is used with unsuitable fluids, modifications and/or alter-ations (including those resulting from repair or attempted repair by persons not authorized by EURO PRESS PACK), or damage caused by transportation..To report any flaw, defect, non conformity, and/or to claim action under this guarantee, the Customer shall inform EURO PRESS PACK in writing within 5 days afterreceipt of the goods, or in case of hidden defect, within 5 days after such defect has been discovered..Before returning the goods to EURO PRESS PACK for possible remedy under guarantee, the purchaser shall have received EURO PRESS PACK's authorization . If EUROPRESS PACK is firmly convinced that its own product is defective, EURO PRESS PACK will provide free of charge for repair or replacement. The transport costs to andfrom EURO PRESS PACK are at the customer's charge..If the intervention of EURO PRESS PACK personnel or of our authorized distributors is requested on the site for installation of the replaced items (provided it is ascertainedthat they are covered by this guarantee) the costs of transfer of such personnel, their travelling hours and travel expenses are at the Customer's charge, whereas only theactual working hours will be at the charge of EURO PRESS PACK or of its authorized distributor. EUROPRESS Hydraulic CylindersSpecific features

The manufacturing program of 700 bar components isbased on innovative technology and on ourlongstanding experience in high pressure hydraulics.

The ideal choice of materials combined with surfacestreated and protected against corrosion makes EPPproducts suitable for use in harsh environments.

Furthermore, E.P.P. cylinders can withstand off-centredand side load forces up to 8% of their nominalcapacity.

Most of our models are in compliance with ANSI(American National Standard Institute) B30.1 Standard.

Seal The compact seal provides good resistance to

wear and extrusion.

Saddle The saddle is in high tensile and nitrided steel

and thus prevents deformation of the piston rod.

Quick couplerThe quick coupler mounted on all cylinders (except

COD cylinders), is fitted with a dust cap.

Cylinder bodyThe cylinder body, piston and end of stroke nut

are in high quality tempered steel and havebeen treated with a special nitriding process so

that these parts have a high wear resistance andare corrosion protected; they have a longoutdoor service life even in sea-water and

aggressive atmospheres.

WiperThe wiper prevents contamination and thus

increases the service life of the cylinder.

Return spring This spring ensures fast piston retraction

irrespective of the cylinder position.

NITREG - The Nitreg® ONC® process is a thermo-chemical treatment appliedto steel, that starts with the liquid nitriding phase followed by an oxidationphase, causing a change in the steel’s superficial chemical structure. Thisalteration makes steel exceptionally hard and resistant to corrosion. Thisresistance is later strengthened by the application of special oil that coats thetreated surfaces and makes them immune to corrosion (tests conducted in salinesmoked rooms show up to 300 hours of resistance to corrosion according toASTM B117).The products treated with this process are especially suitable for applicationsprovoking great risks of corrosion and mechanical wear. EUROPRESS productsare the only ones in our sector to have been treated in this way for years, weregularly carry out this process in our plants.The black colour chosen by EUROPRESS for all its products is the result of thelast phase of this treatment and has become the symbol of our work in the fieldof quality research.


EUROPRESS CylindersHow to choose a cylinder

Some essential information is necessary to choose the correct cylinder. This information includes:

•Force•Stroke•Closed height

And some supplementary data such as:

Spring assisted return, in which the piston isretracted by means of an internal compressionor tension spring inside the cylinder.

These cylinders are proposed whenever it is

necessary to remove the cylinder quickly oncethe load has been lowered.The cylinders of the CMC, CMF, CMI, CML, CMP,CMT ranges belong to this group.

Oil Return, (double acting): the piston isretracted hydraulically by pumping oil intothe anular chamber of the cylinder.

These cylinders are ideal for use in productionapplications where a fast cycle time is required. When being used in a lifting application,lowering of the load can be controlled byfitting a pilot check valve and one-way flowdistributor into the circuit.The return pressure can be set at a lower value

when it is only needed to retract the piston. Thecylinders of the COF, COI, COS ranges belongto this group.When it is necessary also to exert a pullingforce, we recommend cylinders belonging tothe COD ranges. These cylinders are suppliedcomplete with the required threads andconnections and may also be operated at themaximum working pressure on both sides of thepiston.

There are three main types of cylinders: load return, spring return and oil return

Load return, in which the piston is retractedby the weight of the load (or any otherexternal force). The minimum force required to

retract the piston is approximately 0,2% of therated cylinder nominal push value. These

cylinders are the most economic solution for anapplication that does not require quick removalof the cylinder after the load has been lowered.The cylinders of the CGG, CGR, CGS rangesbelong to this group.

FEATURES

These cylinders are particularlysuitable for applications in which theload has to be supported for longperiods.The lock nut can be screwed downonto the cylinder body to hold the loadmechanically. This ensures thatoperation under load is absolutelysafe.

CGG cylinders have concentricgrooves machined into the end of therod to improve load grip, modelsabove 30 tonne have lifting eyeletsfor ease of transport. From 50 tonnes upwards, thecylinders are plunging type and havedevice which prevents any over-stroke. The rod has a coloured zone whichbecomes visible 10 mm before theend of the piston stroke.All models can operate with off-centred load up to 8% of their nominalcapacity.

OPERATIONAL AREAS

These cylinders are ideal for use in theConstruction Industry, e.g. Bridgerepair and construction, foundationsand underpinning etc.

The anti-corrosion treatment appliedto these cylinders duringmanufacture makes them suitable foruse in harsh and aggressiveenvironments.

Whenever working space is restricted, CGRlow profile cylinders offer a perfect solution.

For P version cylinders without end of stroke nut,it is very important that the operator is in a positionto observe when the coloured zone of the pistonappears, indicating the end of the piston stroke.

OPTIONS:

•T - Version, cylinder withintegrated tilt saddle.

•F - Version cylinder withbase mounting holes for fixingpurposes.

•N - Version, (optionalstarting from 50 t) cylinderswith end of stroke ring nut.This version is in compliancewith ANSI B30.1.

•M - Version, cylinder withspring return. This version isavailable for N - versioncylinders up to 150 tons (i.e.,CMG50N100)

FEATURES

Pancake lock ring cylinders have anoverflow port to limit stroke. The rodon these cylinders has a colouredarea which appears 10mm beforethe maximum stroke has beenreached. This version does notconform to ANSI B30.1.

These cylinders are particularly suitedto applications where the load has tobe left in a raised position for longperiods. The load can be supportedby the safety lock nut, this allows thepressure to be released and thepumps and hoses can bedisconnected until it is necessary tolower the load.

All cylinders are supplied withintegrated tilt saddle and eyelets forease of transport.

OPERATIONAL AREAS

CGR cylinders are ideal for use in theconstruction and maintenance ofbridges, viaducts, building sites andindustrial maintenance where workingspace is limited.

The protective nitriding treatment onthese cylinders gives excellentresistance to corrosion making themsuitable for use in aggressiveenvironments.

CGR cylinders have been designed for use inapplications where space is limited and to standthe full load even without a pressure distributionplate below. It is anyhow recommended thatpressure plate are placed both under the baseand on top of the saddle to distribute the load ifthe support resistance is not compatible with thepressure shown in the chart.Non compliance with this notice could result indamage to the cylinder and/or the load beinglifted.

During the lifting operation the operator mustalways be in a position to observe when thecoloured end of stroke section of the rod appears.

FEATURES

CGS cylinders also have concentricgrooves machined into the end of therod to improve load grip, modelsabove 30 tonne have lifting eyeletsfor ease of transport.

From 50 tonnes upwards, thecylinders are plunging type and havedevice which prevents any over-stroke. The rod has a coloured zone whichbecomes visible 10 mm before theend of the piston stroke.All models can operate with off-centred load up to 8% of theirnominal capacity.

OPERATIONAL AREAS

Extremely solid robust cylinderssuitable for use in the civil and marineengineering industry for lifting andlowering heavy loads.The anti corrosive finish makes themparticularly suitable for use in harshenvironments such as salt water,chemical industry etc.

FEATURES

The CMC range of cylinders havegrooves machined into the rod end toimprove load grip, models over 20tonne also have two threaded holesin the rod end to facilliatate the fittingof a tilt saddle.All models have two through holes toallow for the cylinder to be bolteddown onto a work surface, flat sidesalso allow them to be usedhorizontally. Models over 5 tonne arefitted with a wiper seal and from 75tonne onwards they are fitted with aremoveable carry handle.

The CMC5N6 model is suppliedwith a K71F coupler (1/4” NPTconnection).

OPERATIONAL AREAS

These extra compact lightweightcylinders are the ideal solution tooperate in the narrowest workingareas. They are used to precision levelmachinery, transformers, bridgesections etc. and in the ship buildingindustry can be used to raise enginesinto position and remove propellers.

STANDARD:

•Tilt saddle mounting holes.

Due to the small oil capacity of these cylindersthe small PS hand pumpsare recommended tooperate these cylinders.

For lifting machinery from very low positionsthe UJ claw lifters can also be used, the clawhas three different levels.

CMFSteel and aluminium hollow piston cylinders, spring return

FEATURES

All CMF cylinders are supplied asstandard with a smooth hollow boresaddle which screws into the bore ofthe rod. The body has a metric collarthread and there are base mountingholes to allow for the fitting ofaccessories. The end of stroke nut has a wiper sealto prevent the penetration of dirt. Cylinders are supplied with anti-corrosive treatment, which is veryeffective to protect the central bore.

OPERATIONAL AREAS

These cylinders are recommended fortensioning, pulley and bush extracting,hot and cold pulling etc.They can also be used in both pull andpush operations by inserting either abar or a cable through the hollowsaddle. These cylinders are alsosupplied with the UE pullers.

FEATURES

Six models manufactured in a highresistance aluminium alloy completewith a protective treatment, to increaseresistance to corrosion. Wiper sealsare fitted to prevent the penetration ofdirt.

All models are supplied withinterchangeable grooved pushingsaddle and have two lateral threadedholes to enable the mounting of a tiltsaddle to reduce the effects of anyside loading. They are also fitted with a removablecarry handle.

OPERATIONAL AREAS

FEATURES

Low closed height compared to stroke.CMP cylinders have the longest strokein the spring return pad jack range.

All cylinders have a grooved rod topfor improved load grip and there aretwo threaded holes for mounting a tiltsaddle. This is recommended wherethere is a danger of sideloading.Wiper seals are fitted to prevent thepenetration of dirt.Base mounting holes are alsoavailable as an optional extra.

OPERATIONAL AREAS

The small dimensions and thecomplete treatment against corrosionmakes these cylinders ideal for alllifting, levelling, support and pressingoperations in restricted working areasand/or tough environments. FEATURES

All COF cylinders are supplied with asmooth hollow saddle and have acentre hole, thread on the body, in therod and in the base to mount themeasily and enable them to be usedwith accessories.

A safety valve connected to the retractchamber prevents any overpressure.

The end of stroke nut has a wiper toprevent the ingress of dirt. The anti-corrosive nitride treatmentmakes these cylinders suitable for use inharsh environments and in the open air.

OPERATIONAL AREAS

The through hole makes themparticularly suitable for tensioning,mounting and extracting of pulleys,bushings and heat exchanger pipes. They can be used in push and pulloperations by putting a bar or a cableattached to the saddle.

The PL262, PL264 e PL268 hand pumps which have a 4 wayvalve can be used to operate oil return cylinders.

Cylinders in aluminium or with non standard strokes or centreholes can be supplied on request.

STANDARD:

•Smooth hollow saddle,avoids any risk of roddeformation.

EUROPRESS PumpsHow to choose a pump

After having selected the most suitable cylinder and determined the oil volume required for the stroke, it is now necessary to choosethe most suitable pump based upon the required oil volume. This volume can be defined by 1.1 multiplication of the oil volume required for the selected cylinder(s). In the case of double actingcylinders the retraction oil volume shall be subtracted from the volume of oil required to extend the cylinder. Finally, the quantity ofoil needed to fill the flexible hoses, i.e. 32 cm3 per meter length, needs to be taken into account. The following tables will permit an easy choice.

The coloured zones represent the maximum utilisation limits for each pump type.

Some essential information is necessary to choose the correct pump. This information is:

• Reservoir capacity• Cylinder plunger speed

FEATURES

Air-Hydraulic Pumps are extremelylight and versatile. Test results showhow exceptionally reliable andsuitable they are for the most difficultuses thanks to their unique design(series SA, MA, HA, TA, made ofplastic material outside and metalalloy inside). There are fivemultiplying factors: 19:1, 60:1,122:1, 196:1, 345:1 for maximumpressure respectively of 80, 350,700, 1000, 2100 bar.All the pumps (version K excluded,which has a pressure reducer) have amaximum pressure valve nonadjustable from the outside. Theoutward pressure can be adjustedvarying the inward air pressure.

FEATURES

This is the most sophisticated andexact mode for perfectlysynchronised load lifting andlowering This control andmonitoring system is characterised by:

• Easy control: Starting from anormal hydraulic power packs, aPLC controls the flow at the variouscylinders and checks the signalsissued by dynamic transducers, whichin turn activate the relevant monitoringvalves. A PC provides for Systemcontrol and display of the activities,together with the relevant parameters.

• Versatility and precision: Manylifting points may be controlled evenwith cylinders of different capacitiesand types. The programme can alsohandle linear or planar non parallellifting operations to compensate withmillimetric precision for settling oryielding of structural components (e.g.a bridge pier, one end of which hasyielded).

APPLICATIONS

Our Synchrolift system is necessarywhenever hydraulic cylinders withdifferent loads are required to lift andlower at the same rate. KQuick couplers 700 bar

When using Screw couplings, the nut of the female part must always be fully tightened onthe male part. If the two parts are not fully connected the oil can not pass through the coupler, and damage orinjury can occur.

FEATURES

Quick Release couplers are availablein screwed and flat face versionsand are compatible with the EPPproduct range and alsointerchangeable with most couplingsused on high pressure hydraulicequipment.

SHigh Pressure Hoses 700 - 1000 - 1800 - 2500 bar

FEATURES

These hoses are suitable for allhydraulic applications and consist of2, 4, or 6 steel wire spiralsdepending on the operating pressure.They have an extremely high tensilestrength. Their outer cover in polyurethane(700-1000 bar) or polyamide (1800and 2500 bar) provides excellentabrasion protection, whereas minimalexpansion during operationguarantees excellent efficiency.

• Bolt tensioners hoses: SN#FT (with K13X coupler).• Torque wrenches hoses:SQ##FM (male coupler on oneside and female on the other)

The maximum operatingpressure of the pump-hose-coupling system is theworking pressure of the lowestrated part.

The oil volume required to fillthe hoses needs to be takeninto account when selecting thepump model.

FEATURES

These valves provide the means tocontrol cylinders and actuatorsoperating at pressures of 700, 1000,2000 and 3000 bar.

Specifications.• VL Manual and electric controlvalves to operate single acting (3-way)and double acting (4 way) systems.• VR Regulating, shut-off and checkvalves to isolate and monitorhydraulic systems.

Control voltage for solenoids is 24 VDC

HOW TO SELECT A VALVE

Please consider the followinginformation when choosing a valve.• Single acting cylinders: theserequire a 3-way valve (three outlets:pressure P, tank T, cylinder A)• Double acting cylinders these requirea 4-way valve (4 outlets, pressure P,tank T, extension A, return B)• Positions: these are the valve leverposition points.• Extension and retraction of thecylinder (2 position valve) extension,holding and return (3 position valve)• Centre: Intermediate position. Thecentre may be open and in this casethe valve connects the pump (P) andusers (A,B) to the discharge outlet (T),or closed and then all outlets areclosed (if you want to isolate thecylinder but use the pump to feed otherusers).

When using closed centre valves the pump must be switched off whenthe valve lever is in the central position to prevent overheating of the oil.

FEATURES

They consist of two parts:• Mechanical – manufactured in highquality steel to ensure reliability andlong life.• Hydraulics – consisting of a PS orPL pump, a cylinder from the CMFrange with ZTE threaded hollowsaddle, an SN20M hose assemblyand G106L pressure gauge.

Pullers of the UE range may besupplied in 5 tonnage types (5 - 10– 20 – 30 – 50) and in 3configurations, i.e.:• UEC# (complete puller set) whichincludes all mechanical parts and thehydraulic components.• UEG# (jaw puller) consisting of 3jaw puller and hydraulic components.• UET (press puller set) consisting of:press puller internal and externalpuller, hydraulic components.

The self aligning 3 jaw puller is alsoavailable for a more precise andeasy positioning on the workplace.

APPLICATIONS

UTBolt tensioners - 1000 bar

FEATURES

EUROPRESS bolt tensioners are madeof an hydraulic part with a supportingbase (bridge) to which a threadedpuller and a polygonal wrench in itsvarious sizes may be added. Thisallows to cover a large number of tierods and to optimize the number of bolttensioners necessary. According to theirtechnical characteristics, they differ as:

UTN series, whose best quality is itsminimum size. Moreover, thesetensioners provide a traction force ofabout the 70% of the break point of asteel bolt grade 8.8 of the biggest size(value of max thread in the chart).

UTH series, with which you can obtaina traction force equal to 70% of theyield stress of a steel bolt grade 10.9 ofthe maximum size (value of max threadin the chart).The gas nitriding treatment (Nitreg)provided to all steel of EUROPRESSproducts makes them particularly fit forworking outside or in aggressivelocations, thanks to their high resistanceto corrosion.

APPLICATIONS

The big advantage of tensioning isgiven by the fact that it is possible tocharge in advance a tie rod with therequired load in an extremely precisemanner, thus avoiding the force lossesdue to the frictions of the traditionaltorque tightening. Their great facility inuse, the possibility to save time and staffand their precision are all factors thatmake this technique particularly useful inthose sectors where a perfect couplingor flange tightness is essential for thesafety of people and machinery.In particular in the industrial and oilsectors and in all situations where it isnecessary to tighten with extremeaccuracy nuts or threaded tie rods.They are widely used to tighten valves,pumps, heat exchangers, flanges, etc.

If you use a tensioning system where you choose to tension in varioussteps (50%, 33% or even 25% of the points) for space reasons, takecare to alternate the tensioners and to locate them in opposite positions.

To operate in complete safety be careful that the threaded screw sticksout of the nut at least as much as the measure of the diameter of thetensioner.

The maximum capacity refers to a pressure of 1000 bar; for smallerloads reduce the pressure in a proportional way.

1. Force of an hydraulic cylinderThe force of an hydraulic cylinder results from the pressurein the cylinder, p, on the piston of the cylinder.

The formula:F(kg) = p(bar) . A(cm2 ) [when g = ]means:F = force acting on the cylinder in kgp = operating pressure in barA = the cylinder effective area in cm2 whichis calculated from the piston diameter:

Example 1:A CGG100P50 cylinder is required to lift a load of 72 t.What operating pressure is required?

A(cm2 ) = with piston diameter CGG100P50� d = 130 mm

2. Actuating pumpsWhen an hydraulic cylinder is operated by a hand pump,the cylinder plunger moves a certain distance per pumpactuation. This distance depends on the cylinders effectivearea and on the pump’s oil flow per stroke. When two-speedhand pumps are used, the low pressure oil flow VLP appliesfor cylinder movements without load and the high pressureoil flow VHP applies for cylinder movements with loads.

Cylinders

Always provide a solid support forthe entire cylinder base area.

Never place any part of yourbody under the load and foradditional safety support theload mechanically.

Never use cylinders without thesaddle, as they distribute theload evenly and preventdamage to the piston.

The cylinder saddle must be incontact with the load.

Keep your hydraulic equipmentaway from temperatures above65°C (150°F).

Never work near the loadsupported only by the hydraulics.The safety lock nut of the cylindershas to be continuously screweddown onto the body of thecylinder during the liftingoperation.

EPP components have beentreated against corrosion andare suitable for use in humid ormarine areas. Please contact ourTechnical Department for moreinformation.

Avoid any lifting of off centredloads which could damage thecylinder. The use of a tilt saddleallows a misalignement of theload ± 5°.

Make sure that the two areason which the cylinder developits force are sufficiently strongand non-deformable.

To hold the load lifted use aneedle or a pilot check valve inaddition to the pump or powerpack valve. In case the load hasto be held over a long perioduse a cylinder with a safety locknut.



Never exceed the maximumworking pressure indicated forany cylinder range.

Avoid retracting the piston too quickly if itis still under load. A sudden retractioncreates pressure shocks in the hydrauliccircuit. Slowly turn the hand pump andpower pack release valve. When 4/3valves are used in a maintained position itis advised to insert a needle valve betweenthe directional valve and the cylinder inorder to have a controlled lowering speedof the load.

Do not use any component witha load exceeding their nominalcapacity. Always use a gauge tocheck the circuit pressure ortonnage.

Before connecting, clean thecouplers properly and to avoidcontamination use the dust capswhen not connected.

Do not kink hoses. The bendingradius must not be under 70 mm.Do not walk over or drop heavyobjects on them.

Al ways keep the hoses awayfrom the area under the load.

Only disconnect the cylinder fromthe pump when the rod has fullyretracted.

Do not lift any hydrauliccomponent by the hose.

The transport costs to andfrom EURO PRESS PACK are at the customer's charge..If the intervention of EURO PRESS PACK personnel or of our authorized distributors is requested on the site for installation of the replaced items (provided it is ascertainedthat they are covered by this guarantee) the costs of transfer of such personnel, their travelling hours and travel expenses are at the Customer's charge, whereas only theactual working hours will be at the charge of EURO PRESS PACK or of its authorized distributor. THE ABOVE GUARANTEE IS THE ONLY GUARANTEE ACKNOWLEDGED AND RECOGNIZED BY EURO PRESS PACK AND IT REPLACES ANY AND ALL OTHEREXPLICIT OR IMPLICIT GUARANTEES REGARDING THE PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED AND MARKETED BY EURO PRESS PACK, AS TO THEIR MARKETABILITY ORSUITABILITY FOR SPECIFIC APPLICATIONS.

IT IS HEREBY EXPRESSLY STATED THAT ANY CHARGES AND/OR LIABILITY OF EURO PRESS PACK ARE EXCLUDED REGARDING:• ANY ACCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE OR NON CONFORMING PRODUCTS, BY NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE.• DAMAGE DUE TO OTHER CAUSES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO NEGLIGENCE OF EURO PRESS PACK • ANY OTHER OBLIGATION OR LIABILITY DERIVING FROM BREACH OF CONTRACT OR OF GUARANTEE.THIS GUARANTEE WILL NOT BE EFFECTIVE IN CASE OF EVEN PARTIAL DEFAULT IN PAYMENT FOR THE SUPPLIED GOODS, INCLUDING INVOICES FOR TECH-NICAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES.

The maximum amount payable by EURO PRESS PACK for damages will at all events be limited to the actually paid purchase price and shall therefore never exceed thisprice.
