HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS?

▸ When I was creating the dig-pack and the video, I knew I wanted to have close links between them. The video is very light hearted and childlike. It is fun and enjoyable for the viewer. It does have strong morals and a hidden message however no darker connotations.

▸ Within the video I have very high contrasts. When editing the video I have turned up the saturation and colour corrections to a high level. This is because i wanted the video to be very funky and bright, fitting within the pop genre. I had taken inspiration from videos such as’ dear future husband’ and ‘ You belong to me’ where bright colours are used and very plain and obvious shot types are given. So when I was creating the dici-pack I also wanted top follow these lines.

▸ Throughout the whole of my project the girls are centre stage and are the stars of the video and the print work. Throughput the video I have many head on shots of the girls, whether they are hiding from the camera and too shy to show themselves or confident and ready to embrace he world, they are always centre stage. So I wanted this to be apparent in the dig-pack as well. Because of my target audience I wanted the print work to link closely to my video, I am mainly targeting young woman, who may be in school and able to relate to the content pf the video. So because of this donating category I chose colours such as light greens and aqua’s to put on my dig-pack. These funky and bright colours are also shown within my video and this creates a strong bridge between both medias.

Links between Digi-pack and Video ( Representation, colours)

▸ When editing the images I used a strong filter which gave the figures a very distinct and stylised look. This colluded and blurred feature gave the dig-pack a very cartoon-like style. The design I added to them was very animated and looked like an illustration of some sort. When I looked back to my video, where I have created comic book -like transitions between scenes, i could see the similarities between both texts. I did this to shows the fairytale like genre and to give the video a sense of reading a book, as if the viewer s flipping through the pages of a story.

▸ Another link between my digi-pack and my video is the fact that Cinderella appears quite often. One of my panels on the album features Cinderella. One of the characters from my video also represents this fairytale fugue and this link is very important, as it is this character who finds the book which gives them the confidence. That is why it was important to have her on one of the panels. The idea of her being an illustration is also very important as this relates back to the idea of the dig-pack being a book and the fact that the video is serving the same message.

▸ When creating the advert I wanted it to be quite different from the dig-pack however still similar to the video. The dig-pack is quite ambiguous and does not reveal a lot about the storyline of the video. I wanted the advert to be a little clearer and to link more closely to the video. The girls are sitting on a book case, they are miniature and small. This shows that it is quite a fun video and it fits within the pop genre. One of the girls who represents snow white is sitting on an apple. This shows that each character has their own rate and this is also clear in the video. The whole idea of the apple and the books implies that they are in school and that it has a very innocent and education-like theme. This is true and can be seen in the video, for they are high school students. This strong link between the advert and the video is clear and draws in a target audience.

▸ The idea of the apple is simple and bright and funky. That is why I have created another link and added it to the dig-pack. It serves its purpose as the disk panel, due to its size it is small and round and I though this would be quite gimmicky and fun. The style is different however, on the digi-pack it is more stylised and animated.

▸ I have also used the same green stripes as graphics on my dig-pack. This adds a female -like and magical element I knew that my target audience would be drawn to this colour scheme more than any and that the round shapes and opacity act as a sparkle -like design.

To the left is the apple I have used on the advert, to reflect on the snow white theme and to add a bright and fun tone to the image. The image above is the panel where the disk is placed in the digipack. The image is very stylised and colourful, relating back to the advert and also the video.
