WebsiteOver the years especially during the 21st century it has been a crucial factor for local newspapers to consist of a website which informs it’s audience regarding what is currently going on within their local area, similar to what the newspaper does. In modern day the internet has become a powerful source whereby readers can consumer information for absolutely free whilst being more accessible to them in contrast to a local newspaper. For local newspapers it is becoming increasingly common that they are creating a website for their target audience. Forms and conventions of a website is rather different to that of a newspaper however the stories are presented in a similar fashion and both website and newspaper take into account some basic key attributes.

Masthead• The combination of both newspaper

and ancillary texts are both effective as both firstly show us the name of the local newspaper. This is effective because readers are instantly informed who the local newspaper is targeting and who these stories apply to when logging on the company website or looking at the front cover of the newspaper.

• This is effective as both website and newspaper makes it clear for all the readers by firstly identifying the name of the company boldly and clearly making it easier and efficient for the audience.

Advertising/Competition• By creating a website it has been

effective with my newspaper because it has allowed me to advertise and to inform readers regarding any competitions. This would make the newspaper more attractive because by reading the newspaper the readers can get something good out of it other than information. Also it makes the newspaper looks more attractive and give the audience another reason to pick up the local newspaper. I constructed it using clear black fonts in order for it to stand out and the readers could clearly follow instructions or see the advertisements. It also gives the audience a chance for them to get involved with the newspaper/company itself.

Another reason why the combination of my newspaper and website is efficient is because wherever you are you always have an opportunity to get your hands on ‘The Wembley Scoop’ so if readers are outside they can pick up a copy of the newspaper however if they are at home they can access ‘the Wembley scoop’ via the internet on their pc, laptop, smartphone. With the combination of both the newspaper and the website it has turned the local newspaper into a ‘cant miss’ paper as you will be able to have access to it wherever you are. This would increase the number of times the paper is picked up and also gives the local newspaper a variety of how it can present itself and through a website it is more efficient for example if you want to read about sports you click on the ‘sports’ tab, thus making it easy and efficient for the readers

Combination

• By combining both my newspaper and my website I had to use various aspects that are similar for example the structure of the masthead and the fonts used for both newspaper and website had to be identical to help bridge the gap and create a link between the newspaper and the website and also to aid the readers into identifying that the website and the newspaper are both branches of one root being ‘The Wembley Scoop’ other aspects such as providing additional stories to continue the readers attention and because the newspaper/website is trying to attract all types of readers from Wembley/Brent a mixture of stories have to be within the local newspaper.

Contact Us• The local newspaper provides a range of

different stories and advertisements however if the readers ever wanted to contact them then for a local newspaper possessing a website is very effective because it gives an opportunity for the readers to get involved within the company and to express any enquiries regarding the newspaper or any complaints. This is effective because by consisting of a contact us page it provides a more professional outlook to the newspaper and website and just giving the target audience of this local newspaper a chance to participate and make their voices heard, this can make a newspaper more attractive to a readers eye and brings closeness between the local newspaper and their demographic.
