How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research and planning stages?

The InternetThe internet was an extremely helpful tool which allowed me and cassie to research several different in depth with the

help of websites like youtube, wikipedia and the IMDB websites. For example, using youtube allowed me to locate another short film horror which was incredibly successful. With the help of new media technology, I was allowed to locate horror texts and decontruct them, in order to plan and research for my horror film. I also used television advertisements, and deconstructed them on my blog after finding them on the internet. All this information helped me develop the basic narrative which we initially created, and helped create a more powerful short film horror.

New Media TechnologiesIn the filming and editing stages of my main task, we used new media technologies such as an apple iMac, a video camera several other computer resources like file converters and scanners for the initial planning. After experimenting with new media technologies over the course, and already having some experience from preliminary filming, me and Cassie were more than capable to construct a preliminary film, and also experiment with lighting for our practise shots when we were trying to include a convention from ‘The Poltergeist’. We used a silhouette effect by only using one light source and experimenting with different effects on the camera and different lenses, which gave us this result (bottom left).

To the right is a picture of Cassie using iMovie, and experimenting with some of the features that are included in the editing system. This was essential for our planning and preparation because it allowed us to gain some understanding and experience with the software before we had to use it for our final product.

Ancillary tasksA key component of new media technologies is photoshop, and this was essential for our ancillary tasks because the

images we took using a camera needed to be digitally re-mastered by using a variety of different effects and layering options, which helped in the construction stages of both my double page spread and my film poster.
