Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing

task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to

full product?

Evaluation Q7:

Preliminary task THE PACKAGE

In this task we were coving the basic shots to show that we were capable of them and it gave our first insight into what it would be like making our own short film. Although it was not necessary we decided to add in a little narrative to make the shots we were taking more effective and interesting. However this piece of film is not very similar to the title sequence that we have constructed, but we have definitely taken a lot of the techniques used from the preliminary task into the main film. Shots like medium shots and match on action were used in both pieces of film.

As the preliminary task was our first taste of producing our own small film we took a lot of what we learnt from it into the main task. The preliminary task helped us familiarise our selves with all the essential camera and editing rules like the 180 degree line. In theory it is quite a simple step to follow but when it came to editing our shots we realise we had not stuck to it. this meant that we had to flip the shot in final cut pro. We had to learn new skills to make our film more effective. Things like the sound effects. We had a little amount of experience of the sound effects from a preliminary task so we had a good base to start from in the editing.

What we have learnt

Techniques I will use next timePre-production: I feel if we did the same task a second time I would put more planning into the pre-production. I would do things like an itinerary list and make a time scale to which the product would have to stick to. Furthermore if I had more time I would make a storyboard with every single shot I needed. By using all these techniques I would be able to proceed with a high quality and more efficient production process.

Research: To make a more detailed research I think it would be a good idea to test out my idea by asking people what they think about it online. I could of made a chart out of their favourite films which are similar to our genre by using survey monkey.Production: I would improve the camera shots in the bike montage and the final scene with the dead body. For the montage I could use a tracking shot by using tack s and chasing the bike. I could also get some aerial shots by putting a camera in the trees or by flying a chasing drone. In the dead body scene we could have done an establishing shot to show the audience the scene so they don’t get confused.

Editing: Considering that I had not used final cut pro before this task I believe I would be able to make a better cut all together with experience. However in this film we did not use any lighting. I believe it would of emphasised the dark effect at the end of our film so that it would inspire our audience.
